SAS and SEAL are both trained specially for different combat types hence the names special air service and navy seals it so it would be hard to say who is better. But i think all yanks and brits can agree that both of them do a bloody good job.Maximum respect.

All respect to SAS. But for those who believe they are better than SEALs or other units know this: (1) Just because they came first, doesn't mean they're the best. In fact, Delta Force has made improvements on their model (2) SEALs are not based on SAS, especially DEVGRU. They're one of America's original ideas and one reason why they got chosen for the Bin Laden job (3) SEALs do the most risky of missions, therefore casualty and rate of failure is higher. They also pioneer a lot of new stuff.

@ryantika (hit sent by accident)...anyways we will never know the full amount of missions either unit goes on due to the secrecy involved, but compare the ones we actually do know about. in the past century or so the US has headed a few more major wars than the UK and SEALS have participated in about 75% of them. SAS too but not to the extent of the US forces. (they're our wars mind you). Petraeus' comment was unbiased but for every Petraeus theres 10 more people who will disagree and vice versa
@soflo23 The SAS were created in the 40's during WW2, so 20 years-ish longer. That was my point both countries special forces are on operation alot of the time so no-one knows who's on operation more and has more experience , however I have heard of times where the US has personally asked for the SAS's help over their own special forces, and have heard of some of the battles the SAS have been through and came out on top. also the UK have been in about the same amount of wars. SEALS were formed by president john f kennedy from the UDT teams when ww2 was over. they were not based off anything SAS did or trained for. the U.S. government also did not use the SAS as a model for they were trying to start. instead they developed the most elite amphibious commandos on the planet (sorry SBS) establishing themselves in multiple combat engagements from vietnam to present day. SAS can take credit for being the first, but by no means the best.

Im gonna be in the Australian Special Forces soon and from talking and being told we will be doing training WITH the U.S. Seals and Delta but we WILL BE trained by S.A.S. There's a reason for the difference.

British SAS unit is d best. Keeping low profile doesnt mean they are not the BEST. Notice that SAS uses basic human instinct rather than high tech equipment or weapon.(that does not mean they don't use high tech). When you are fighting in close combat in enclosed area, superior basic instict (trained or inborn) will give you an edge in winning.
The SAS have trained the seal teams in their job, at least if they are looking for someone it takes them less then 11 years, who do you thing any elite force in the world models themselves on, it not the americans, with a legacy of big wars like grenada, panama, try aden, falklands etc, not technology old fashioned fighting

All respect to SAS. But for those who believe they are better than SEALs or other units know this: (1) Just because they came first, doesn't mean they're the best. In fact, Delta Force has made improvements on their model (2) SEALs are not based on SAS, especially DEVGRU. They're one of America's original ideas and one reason why they got chosen for the Bin Laden job (3) SEALs do the most risky of missions, therefore casualty and rate of failure is higher. They also pioneer a lot of new stuff.

@ryantika (hit sent by accident)...anyways we will never know the full amount of missions either unit goes on due to the secrecy involved, but compare the ones we actually do know about. in the past century or so the US has headed a few more major wars than the UK and SEALS have participated in about 75% of them. SAS too but not to the extent of the US forces. (they're our wars mind you). Petraeus' comment was unbiased but for every Petraeus theres 10 more people who will disagree and vice versa

That was my point both countries special forces are on operation alot of the time so no-one knows who's on operation more and has more experience , however I have heard of times where the US has personally asked for the SAS's help over their own special forces, and have heard of some of the battles the SAS have been through and came out on top. also the UK have been in about the same amount of wars. SEALS were formed by president john f kennedy from the UDT teams when ww2 was over. they were not based off anything SAS did or trained for. the U.S. government also did not use the SAS as a model for they were trying to start. instead they developed the most elite amphibious commandos on the planet (sorry SBS) establishing themselves in multiple combat engagements from vietnam to present day. SAS can take credit for being the first, but by no means the best.

@JonnyJ94 again not true. i have known about the SAS, SBS, and SEALS long before youtube was a dream. before SEALS earn their trident, they go through BUD/S and advanced training which includes close quarter combat, parachuting, land/sea navigation, combat diving, weapons, recon, explosives, hand to hand combat, SERE school, jungle warfare, cold weather training and specialty courses like sniper school or a corpsman school. NONE OF WHICH ARE TAUGHT BY BRITS. sorry bloke, u dont train SEALS

I'm a U.S Marine and I've had the great pleasure of seeing both SEALs and SAS in combat. The SEALs are top notch at everything they do. SEALs and MEU Marines like me are the greatest fighting force mankind has seen. Who found bin Laden??? Hahahaha! Who needed the Yanks in WW2? Point proven.

Im gonna be in the Australian Special Forces soon and from talking and being told we will be doing training WITH the U.S. Seals and Delta but we WILL BE trained by S.A.S. There's a reason for the difference.

British SAS unit is d best. Keeping low profile doesnt mean they are not the BEST. Notice that SAS uses basic human instinct rather than high tech equipment or weapon.(that does not mean they don't use high tech). When you are fighting in close combat in enclosed area, superior basic instict (trained or inborn) will give you an edge in winning.

The SAS have trained the seal teams in their job, at least if they are looking for someone it takes them less then 11 years, who do you thing any elite force in the world models themselves on, it not the americans, with a legacy of big wars like grenada, panama, try aden, falklands etc, not technology old fashioned fighting

got to love the SAS. i think the SASR (aussie sas) are better but that got to do with me be a proud australia. mind u there is prob no difference between the two except that the brits are older. brit sas are tough as nails tho, one of my relatives was in the sas in the mid 70s and last week we were mountain biking and he hit a rock and fell down a rock face and cut up and broke his leg, so instead of call a ambulance he walk the 3 km back to the car :S on the broken leg
