Yes. There are a few ways to deal with splinters: (1) cut them off using a utility knife; (2) file them off with a wood rasp; (3) sand them away with sandpaper; or, (4) glue them down with an exterior rated glue (if splinters are on a corner, I often tape them in place until the glue dries).

i build decks using screws only, using a nail gun is easier and faster, but i back my work for years to come.......
