what's the name of the instrument you hear a lot in their songs? is it a flute or something? i would really like to know and wow i love shpongle, i didn't know this song yet :)
Man, the first time I listened to this song all the way through, 7:15, 8:46, and 11:29 blew my mind. The spaciousness of the mix is definitely a stark contrast to the super vibrant layers that newer shpongle has. This is on another level. Especially considering it was made in 1998.
if you havent listened to this song really really really high (or preferably, TRIPPING), you haven't even begun to take the "trip". You aren't "Shpongled", as the titlle of this album (as an emulation of Hendrix's"Are You Experienced?" probably) asks. Sober shpongle just is not the same. Sure you can enjoy and Definitely appreciate the music, but you will not "go there" until you've gotten really really high on cannabis or tripped on shrooms/acid/mescaline with this whole album on headphones imo
@mikeisapro You are right 100%. People fool themselves when saying they don't need to listen while tripping to experience the full hyperspace ride that the albums can take you on. As a sound engineer I can say that Shpongle has nailed down the psychedelic writing and mixing technics that blow your mind when tripping. It gives it a talking dog affect. If you like rock, Tool's laterals is done IMPECCABLY!!
@Liton777 Listening to the album in it's entirety is the way to go for the full effect and I believe was their intention however you'd be able to notice the magic listening to their songs individually.
@toneage7 Yeah, I do love that album, music like that takes me somewhere. I can't say I like one album more than the rest though, they're all so good, what ever album I'm listening to at the time is my favorite album lol. From lateraluz I really like parabol-parabola, sent me to a crazy place once.
If I had the video making materials, the music video I would make involve: The hustle of city day life among humans. Then as the sun sets and the chorus starts, the night life begins to emerge. The footage I would use would be from various nature shows showing brilliant night life in many different types of earth environments. The stars would show, the moon would shine. As the song ends, the sun begins to rise, beggining the cycle of day and night all over again. Someone please make this.
