  • hmmm you would think she would be able to better pronounce Spanish given she's Italian. Nice song regardless.

  • Composed by Armando Trovajoli.........

  • Every person in that scene needs therapy!

  • anyone else here because of Pink Martini?

  • GRANDE

  • Frontier Psychiatrist, anyone?

  • My parents had the 78rpm of the song. My father absolutely loved Iltalian cinema. This is the very first song I ever danced to; Thank you for posting htis, brings back a rush of memories. After frantically trying to work out what this song wes by watching cinema Paradisio, I heard the Pink Martini cover and got the original. But the images are beyond words.

  • Great listening after a very long time. Thanks very much for uploading this lovely perennial evergreen which is simply unforgettable>>>>

  • I ARRIVED HERE AFTER A LOT OF SEARCHING..AFTER WATCHING CINEMA PARADISO !!.THUMBS UP IF ALSO DID

  • Melodrama master Alberto Lattuada with on of the most beautfull film actresses of all time - Silvana Mangano. She dances, erotic, Brazilian rhythm in the song "El Negro Zumbon" worldwide success in the 1950s. Raimundo Balby(Penalva-Maranhão-Brazil).

  • Caro Diario brought me here! Moretti does the moves just as well :P

  • great! always is good dance the baiao

the song appears in the mgm shellac 9576 (originally from giordano vatro), the b face contains the fox trot called t'ho voluto bene.

perez prado did a version of the song in the rca victor`s shellac 20-5367

with carmencita pernett aand tony camargo on vocals, the b side contains a song dedicated to the lovely actress logically called: sylvana mangano

  • Her dancing is so cute!

  • If I didn't know better I would've thought this clip was from 1962 or so. Seems very modern for its time.

  • 60 years before Waka Waka.

  • If anyone is interested, or was looking for it, this was sampled toward the end of Frontier Psychiatrist.

  • Absolutely brilliant post.

    Thank you for sharing.

  • Love this song.

  • ▬►CINEMA PARADISO..◄▬

  • Does anyone know how to find this song on itune?

  • @dmrosetattoo

Search for the song "El Negro Zumbon" by Flo Sandon

  • An electrifying and uplifting song and matching on-stage performance.

    Respectful salute to composer(Armando),singer(Flo) &

    performer(SILVANA).

  • A most beautifull lady like so many Italy has given the World...all made by Michael Angelo ! A percursor of Monica Belluci...half a century before.

The song is great. It was very very popular back then....

  • One would think the film would be released on the merit that Sophia Loren works s waitress in the Blue Grotto Cafe where Silvana works at before she becomes an nun.

  • Istill have the 78 record of this song,Non Dementicar is on the revers side,my older brother played i to death. I fell i love with her playing two roles in one film. The constant Penelope and the temptress Cerci In glorious Technicolor all in bright green. Luring Kirk Douglas to his doom in Ulysses! Some one mentioned her in Ben Hur ,although they do look alike, that's Haya Harett in Ben Hur. Silvana remained beautiful even in her last film ,that science fiction disaster her husband made ,Dune!

  • I still have the 78 record of this song with Non Deimenticar on he reverse. My brother played it to death> I fell in love with her playing two roles, the constant Penelope and temptress ,in Glorious Technicolor Green, Circe luring Kirk Douglas to his doom in Ulysses. Someone mentioned her in Ben Hur,although they do look alike, that was Haya Hararett in Ben Hur.She remained beautiful even to the last film ,,that science fiction disaster her husband made ,Dune.

  • Silvana is beautiful and sensual!!

  • absolutely perfect !

  • my names Silvana :3 lmao

  • So this is the original version? It's great! There is also a Dutch song from the same era - Mama el Baión by Maria Zamora - that sounds almost exactly the same.

  • this song makes me happy

  • Cinema Paradiso

  • I loved this song when I was a kid...still love it and still love Silvana Mangano...one of the great ladies/beauties of film .

  • @miltsar I have the same childhood memory. Great minds think alike, even at a tender age. I hope the song never ages though we sadly, will.

  • i love this song.my mom would play it several times.i was 4 years old. i found it again. now i 59 years old . thank you.

  • ma che espressione a 0:48 ...ne sono innamorato! Questa è una donna, altro chè...

I saw the movie and I could never forget the song.

It does bring tears to my eyes.

  • Where can I buy this DVD?

    Thanks.

    Nirmala

  • I LOVE THIS VIDEO

  • I've had this song stuck in my head all day!! I love Silvana's facial expressions and her dancing...she's so cute :)

  • don't care who actually sang this song ---Sylvana makes it!!!!!

  • Love her, just love her <3

  • è vero! nuovo cinema paradiso,ma prima ancora caro diario...

  • me recuerda a Cinema Paradiso : )

  • Is this Giada's (from the FoodNetwork) grandmother??

  • i love this song! old school movies rule!

  • @fermar92 ESTA MUJER FUE ESPECTACULAR ELLA

  • @renew2day - You can be wrong - discovers that ! Silvana Mangano was not a siger. She was dubbed(voice dubbing) by Lidia Simoneschi!

Anna, Bitter Rice and Mambo - Silvana was dubbed by Lidia Simoneschi!

  • @Edivaldo724 - Yes, Silvana Mangano was only an actress. Her voice was actually dubbed by Flo Sandons (and not Lidia Simoneschi).

  • @patrickdcyau -You quite right, Silvana Mangano was dubbed by Flo Sandons. I'm wrong!

  • Silvana Mangano... Ahhh... <3

    Great clip, this.

  • I saw Anna as I was in the throes of puberty (no age restrictions in the early 1950s) and the tune of El Bayon has been rattling around in my mind since then.

  • Exellent music and actrice.

  • Wasn't she a big hit in "Bitter Rice"? Just askin'

MGM Records released ANNA b/w I LOVED YOU (T'ho Voluto Bene) in 1953.

This was Sylvana Mangano's only hit record in the USA.

It was among the Top 10 bestselling records for 10 weeks! (Billboard Music Weekly) from May 9th to July 11, 1953.

I'm sure if someone wants it, it could be found on e-bay.

    (I won't sell my 45rpm!)

  • @renew2day

Yes, she was a big hit in "Bitter Rice" (1949). The film, her 6th, was also Oscar nominated.

  • grazie silvana

  • Very good

  • Excellent!

  • one of the best mlodies for the guitar,I learnt to play the guitar because of this melody, what a great melody,Thanks ANNA I play this very well on the guitar

    Ivan11449

  • Silvana's great beauty and lack of self-consciousness gives this clip a lot of charm. Her simple unmodulated singing voice undoctored by electronic gadgetry gives it the sound of live performance. There is of course the well textured Zone 5 photography that plays well on light and shadows. All these make up for her somewhat cloven-footed and clumsy dancing (hard to move when a lady is so well-equipped) which I find appealing. And that music, that beat, resonates of the exotic and exciting.

  • @Etnecserc

Maybe the "cloven-footed" dance style was done on purpose? Can't really say not having seen the film.

  • @youtubister Agree.

  • Silvana won my heart as the virtuous and loyal Penelope in Ulysses but this is sooo verrry interesting. She certainly was my favorite among the female actress Italian invaders of Hollywood in the '50s.

  • I wish somebody would post Silvana in her film with Kirk Douglas, Ulisse (Ulysses), in which she portrayed both Penelope and Circe.

  • I saw the film, Anna in French Morocco in 1952, and fell in love with Silvana Mangano. I tried to get it on Netflix but apparently it's not on DVD.

  • wonderful silvana , i love you very much

  • OK, so someday somebody needs to make a new movie of a character watching the people in "Cinema Paradiso" watching this scene, then watching Nanni Moretti watching the same dance on TV in "Caro Diario", and then in real life, people can sit in a theater and watch this new film of someone watching two movies in which other people watch this scene.

    Very complicated.

  • I WENT to see her resting plac ehere in ny stae in the town of Pawling , she is at the cementery with the towns name , is a modest place her son federico he die in 1981 is there too, the town is very beautiful if you live in ny state go and visit the town very beautiful and see her buriel place

  • this song is perfect!

    one of my favourite scenes

  • viva la mangano

  • goddess!

  • Who needs Britney Spears...

  • yo adoro a esta mujer to me silvana is the great italian movie star of the post war

  • The lighting effects in this film are wonderful.

  • The group Pink Martini does a great cover of this song!

  • indeed!!! It's a wonderful version...

    :D

  • yes, I have seen this movie. It was a Shlager in Tel-Aviv, and everybody sang the song. Arella Dror, Israel

  • 5*****************8

  • Mitico!!! Grazie Kostas!

  • grandissima attrice

  • ma quanto mi piace

  • The tune is familiar to me. Thanks for this rare video clip. I love it.

  • Its in the Avalanches - Frontier Psychaitrist.

  • 40's and 50's dancing is so strange through a modern lens.

  • Stupenda Silvana!

  • insuperabile e bella,l'indimenticabile Silvana.

  • i love silvana mangano to me the most beautiful actress of italian cinema

  • notevole!

  • I first saw this film clip in the movie "Cinema Paradiso" years ago & was so captivated by it! The song was very familiar, I probably heard it when I was a young boy. The song sequence was well shot and lit for an old movie....and the singer/actress was sexy too! I was searching for the song's name & film for a long time. Years later I heard the song in a CD shop & immediately asked for the album. It was "Hang on Little Tomato" by Pink Martini & I bought it. Thank you for posting the video!

  • wow

  • Does anyone have the guitar tabs for this song ?? please email me PLEASE!

  • You could try the track PINK MARTINI : a couple of years ago ( 2004 ?) this american band recorded this song in a record called 'Hang on little tomato" ( quite nice version). Tab of this record probably easier to find. Good luck

  • It's amazing but if you look real closly she looks like her granddaughter , Giada DeLaurentis from the cooking network ..

  • this film can be bought in vhs not dvd from Nostalgia Family Videos. It is subtitles, but a great movie. I enjoyed it very much

  • una delle donne più belle di sempre

  • 0:37 - I'll enter the room this way at my next interview!

  • hahahahaha

  • most sexual italien star ever..............

  • I found this while watching Cinema Paradiso ^_^ Such a great song.

  • So am I... see also Caro Diario... there's the same sequence... hmmm would this be a leitmotif of Italian recent cinematography ?

  • in a certain way; Nanni Moretti in that movie is a dance-addicted...he has always had the dream of learning to dance, not just watch people do it...in that scene he is in a public bar, while in an old tv on the wall he sees the scene from Anna, and starts nodding his head and moving the arms following the music...

  • Lovely lovely

  • SIlvana Mangano is wonderful, nevertheless it is worth recalling that she's not singing: the voice is ol Flo Sandonz

  • Bravo. I love the Brazilian version too. Negro Bastião.

  • Actually, the rhythm of the song is Brazilian - el baion is the baiao, the rhythmic formula behind forro, coco and embolada.

  • Guys pls...would any of you know how I can acquire a copy of Anna? Pls???

  • Just for fun, check for Nanni Moretti's "Caro Diario" clip, he cites this scene ;-)

    watch?v=sHvqMKb40QI

  • This beauty is the grandmother of chef Giada!

  • I always play this track in the version of Toni Mottola...

  • I think this lady starred opposite Charlton Heston in Ben Hur.

  • I just watched Ben Hur on Turner Classic movies. That was her and she was also in Barabbas with Anthony Quinn. She was married to Dino Delaurentis until her death even though they no longer lived together. He controlled her career which looks like, ended early.

  • My mistake she was not in Ben Hur. She just resembles Haya Harareet who was in Ben Hur. She was however, in Barabbas.

Also bitte, wer kann mir helfen ???

    LG

    momu17

  • Simply the most sexy woman ever born... Un pezzo di alta cinematografia.

  • great crazy dream of all crazies dreams......but dont forget stefania santrelli..........

  • I love this, after I saw the clip in "Cinema Paradiso." I am still having an awful time finding a zone-correct DVD of the movie. I bought a CD of it, and my 8-year-old daughter and I sing and dance to it.

  • Where did you find a CD of "Anna"?

  • this reminds me of my mother who use to sing this song for me when i was young

  • dreamful sound,a.lattuanda, dreamful s.mangano of the afterwar beautiful italy...

  • this song is composer of maestro armando trovajoli remember..........

  • Yes indeed this song is composed by Armando Trovaioli. (Purtroppo) lo ricordo benissimo.Ciao Gino

  • perché purtroppo? XD

  • Simply lovely.

  • It's the best video clip ever placed on You Tube; I remember the song was a big hit in the early 50's in many different versions, as was the custom then

  • I also remember this from "Cinema Paradiso". It's a wonderful song, shot so expertly too. Two questions, though:

    1) Did the original film have these awkward, obvious cuts here, where the soundtrack is noticeably out of synch?

    2) Is that also Silvana at the start of the scene dressed in a nun's habit? If so, what's the story?? Did she go from being a very sexy nightclub singer to being a nun? (With this scene being a flashback to her previous life...?)

  • This song is taken exactly from the original film. This copy is the one broadcasted at Rai Tre Italian channel. This scene is a flashback to her previous life..

  • i prefer this one than the one of silvio

  • wow;i been looking for this song for a long time ; thank you

  • B*R*I*L*L*I*A*N*T*I*N*O* ♫

Made in the year of my birth ☺

  • ¡¡¡Cuánta sensibilidad!!!!...¡¡¡Cuánta belleza!!!...¡¡¡Qué hermosura!!!...¡¡¡Qué movimientos!!!...¡¡¡Qué cuerpo!!!..¡¡¡Qué sonrisa!!! ¡¡¡Todo natural!!! Desde que la ví en Cinema Paraíso quise encontrarla y aquí está llena de frescura...Thanks so much Jack. Oscar desde Buenos Aires.

  • Compañero y amigo!!! Hago también desde Bs. As. mias tus palabras.

As. famoso otro Baión.

  • Excellent. Many thanks for posting this--I'm going to learn the tune.

  • I remember this movie and always wished I could see it again. I was 13yrs old and loved this song and the movie itself. Just came across this video and I'm thriled to death. will put it in favorites
