Native Americans are the Indians originally from the American region. The Mexican people are descendants of Mexicans Indians such as the Aztecs and Mayans. They are somewhat related though but basically two different tribes. Though most Mexicans are called Hispanic because they are mixed with Spanish. If you are a full blooded Mexican Indian you would not be considered Hispanic or Latino.
The only thing that I don't like is that every Mexican I have met has "Aztec" Tattoos when most of them don't have Aztec Blood and they just follow the crowd. The Nahuatl, shown in this clip, held off the Aztecs from advancing North from the Michoacan area up. The Aztecs never settled there because of this and no one in those areas has Aztec blood or cultural background. Mexicans in Mexico know this, but not those born in the U.S. this adds to that culture dying.
@xm377Moyocoyatzin No, I meant the Nahuatl. The Purepecha and later Chichimec tribes settled in Michoacan with help of the Nahuatl. From what I understand the Aztecs where driving them out of their lands and they were given protection by the Nahuatl Indians, but in return had to have their settlements on the front lines to help defend against the Aztecs. They were all also part of the fall of Aztecs as they joined the Spaniards since they had a common "enemy" in the Aztecs.
@Damiuss You know the Aztec were a Nahuatl people too right? After the Fall of Tenochtitlan the former Aztec forces joined with the Spanish in the conquest of western Mexico. Michoacan, Jalisco, Nayarit, Colima, Zacatecas and Aguascalientes was conquered by the Spanish with the aid of the former Aztec. This is part of the reason why almost all of western Mexico is named after Nahuatl names rather than Purepecha, Huichol, Zapotec or Chichimec languages.
@xm377Moyocoyatzin The Purepecha were never conquered by the Aztec Empire, despite several attempts by the Mexica to do so, including a fierce war in 1479. This was mostly due to their knowledge of metal working, an advantage over the Mexica. Tarasco which is still spoken by more than 100,000 people in Michoacán was their language though Nahuatl was used since it was more common for trade, not because of conquest. The Spanish, eventually conquered them, but not the Aztecs.
@Damiuss I know. I never said the Aztec expanded that far. But latter the Spanish with thousands of former Aztec warriors aiding them conquered all of western Mexico.
i'm proud to be of both heritages but i embrace my native side Raramuri, i have more in common with it and know more about it and would never deny it and it saddens me that a lot more latinos or hispanics don't embrace our native side
@ThePerniciousTruth So basically speaking, we are cultural heirs to the Aztec and Mayan civilizations just as the Spanish are heirs to the Greeks and Romans. In the 1950's or probably the 60's new authors like Octavio Paz and Carlos Fuentes began to enlighten our discovery of ourselves by also reminding us that the Spanish brought with them many cultural backgrounds that have also become key elements in our identity. From Alpine to Moroccan traditions which we have since fully Mexicanized.
@ThePerniciousTruth The Spanish Caste system is ridiculously retarded. For the fun of it me and my family found out where we would each individually be placed if they didn't know we were related: I would be Indio, my brother Castizo, my father Indio my mother Criolla my sister Mestiza, and so on and so forth. The thing I fight most ferociously against is those assholes who spread an inferiority or superiority complex. This is why I hate the Mexica-Movement and their counterparts.
@ThePerniciousTruth Vasconcelos was only half rigth. He still had a Eurocentric point of view when it came to Culture, he failed to see any value in Indigenous cultures. The Indigenists of the early 1900's did have one solid point which is still a cornerstone to Mexican National Identity. They suggested that Mexico look to it's own great civilizations in situ; rather than being another facsimile of Europe looking to the Greeks and Romans as our predecessors we should look to the Aztec and Maya.
@ThePerniciousTruth Mexico's nationalism rose after our last Revolution. In fact, racial/class divides were what set it off like a time bomb to begin with. Porfirio Diaz thought himself as European and saw everything indigenous as being beneath him which much be crushed in order to Europeanize Mexico. This is why post-revolutionary governments heavily emphasized indigenality and Mestizaje as the core of Mexican nationalism because this is what in fact Mexicans are and always have been.
@ThePerniciousTruth Our nationality does involve race, and it actually stems from it BUT with exceptions and overlaps. People always confuse the exceptions as being the rule like when you see videos of these fools claiming "White Mexicans" and the other morons of the Mexica-Movement claiming the other extreme. Guess what they both happen to have in common? Neither of them are truly Mexican. They videos are in English and they portray United Statian nationalism, not Mexican nationalism.
@ThePerniciousTruth I see... Well, Mexican Nationality is actually very complex. We are not "just a nationality" like many love to downgrade us as if we are anything comparable to the Nationality of the United States.
@ThePerniciousTruth Being well versed in Mexican history does not mean you understand any of it. You utterly failed to comprehend Mexican Nationality to begin with. THAT is what set me off. You equate all of Mexico to a single man (or a little group of people) and that is as fucking stupid as saying that the Aztec are the only Indigenous Ethnic group in Mexico's pre-columbian history. My great-grandfather also fought the Feds, (and I was shot at in 2006 in Oaxaca), big fucking deal. (ಠ_ಠ)
@ThePerniciousTruth I always knew where you were coming from: IGNORANCE. And you are still ignorant even after I explained it to you. You never fought with Mexico, you WERE Mexico!
@ThePerniciousTruth It doesnt hurt to learn what Mexico itself is actually teaching and promoting about our indigenous heritage instead listening to a bunch of adolescent 1960's minded California-Educated morons.
@ThePerniciousTruth Oh right... the "Aztec-Spanish" cannon which happens to take 80% of it's identity from Jalisco which fought BOTH of them. Mariachis, Tequila, Charros, Sombreros are all from Mexico City right? That is like Egypt taking it's "Egypto-African" canon from the Vikings. Look, it's plainly obvious that you are just as ignorant about Mexico as these fools spreading all this misinformation about "Anahuac" and that "Nican Tlaca" bullshit which were never true pre-columbian concepts.
@ThePerniciousTruth You know Mexico has been in several Civil Wars right? Fucking dumb ass. We have all fought each other at one point or another. I am from Western Mexico my ancestry comes from the Tonaltec who were mixed between Zapotec Nahuatl and other tribes from Jalisco. When you say you "Fought Mexico" what the fuck are you actually saying? That you fought the Porfirian Regime? Big fucking surprise, WE ALL FOUGHT that regime even Criollos dumb shit.
Indeed. Mexicans are of Native American heritage, many are degrees of Spanish and Native American. There are many of them that don't have Spanish ancestry at all, they just speak the language. Good day to you my brothers and sisters, be blessed.
Mexico, like the U.S., is still a country composed of european settlers which means it is still white. No native of north or south America ever new the meaning of country, ownership to land, divided territory or anything to say the least; only belonging to the earth or being a part of it. It was a world without borders. I am Mexican/ Bedonkohe Apache, but I deny my so called mexican blood and spanish last name and wish I could find out what tribe of people in mexico I descend from.
As for White Supremacists claiming that White Race is superior, they are just trying to sound intellectual, when in reality they are delusional, so don't try to argue with them.
FYI everyone, America set aside the term "Hispanic" for a person of Spanish and Indian (Native American) heritage. I have some distant Indigenous ancestors, with my heritage comprising mostly of Portuguese and some Swiss and French (My parents are from Brazil). I know this whole thing is ridiculous, that's why whenever you are asked what is your race, just answer "Human". Race is a man made concept. We all share about 99.5% of our DNA with each other.
I am brown ,and proud of it,but I can not denied my Dad side of the family, they all are tall, white ,green eyes ,and i love my grandmother, but I am brown and proud of my indian blood,i will always said that.
dont forget if you a mexican indian you should this. your mexican indian/ not hispanic. hispanics are people from spain. latinos are white people of latin america. rock your mexi pride. with you have mexican pride nobody can shut you down
Thanks for posting this. There were also US tribes running back and forth across the border running from persecution. People need to get there was no US-MEX border before invasion of the European in North and South America. Everyone was indigenous prior to invasion.
YOu who made this video, you are very smart to pin point that there "Indians", south of the U.S. boarder, but there are all so mestizos, that make up about 90% of Mexico.
They look Indian, but have lost their language, and are part European, cousin to the white american
@quetzalamaru true that but i been to alot of pow wows and most of the usa natives didnt even know how to speak there original languages either, they all spoke english, listened to either rock or rap and had english surnames so to me there still isnt much of a difference
sad thing is even the mexicans refuse to recognize them as natives or respect our ways..... talked down to and mocked at because we dont speak no spanish...... fuck the mexican government yall aint from here yall jus fuckin spanierds!!!
The only way we can end the mis-profiling of our, and other supposed "Latinos" from Central and South America, is if everyone just stops marking them selves as "Hispanics" or "Latinos" so the next time your taking a survey or application mark yourself down as "Native American".
but Mexicans are not Native Americans... before the anti-illegal immigrants, almost all Mexicans considered themselves as White and were proud to be white. So, now that there is a backslash against Mexicans, the Mexicans are trying to claim native American? please... this is why most Native Americans do not support Mexicans, because in the past, the Mexicans were the ones who hated Native Americans and thought themselves as White because they were having white privileges.
@niamtxiv I don't want to seem like a bad guy but shut the fuck up and don't ever say something when you have no actual knowledge on the situation. You just blurted out some half baked facts that you pulled out of your ass. No, Mexicans were not "white" they were hated back then just as much as any non-white people. Why do you think the Spanish enslaved them and forced them to labor in deep underground mines. They weren't proud of being white because they WEREN'T WHITE in fact they hated whites.
@niamtxiv And they didn't have the same rights as whites, in the 1950s when blacks had their own schools Mexicans were forced to go to colored schools, if a Mexican had some European blood and looked sort-of white they could pass off as white and go to school with them. If they didn't have the same rights as whites then what makes you think they had them back then? The Spanish treated the Native Mexicans like dirt, if you were Native Mexican you were the lowest bar in colonial Mexican society.
@niamtxiv And Mexicans didn't hate Native Americans, how could they? They were both in the same situation, robbed of their land and living in poverty. In fact when the peasants kicked out the Spanish they abolished slavery and would help escaped slaves by offering sanctuary in Mexico. If they treated non-natives like that what makes you think they hated other natives. Thats like a black man going to Africa and saying "look at all these disgusting niggers" you can't become white by acting white.
@Blackknight1212 actually the name mexico shoudnt exist, because that land is were many tribes live back then and still to this day, mayas, mexicas, raramuris, yaquis, mixteco just to name a few.
@niamtxiv dont let white people wash your brain with that nonsense bull shit hahahah mexicans hating natives? we got indian blood in us even white mexicans are proud of our indian culture mexicans would never claim to be white. most mexicans are 75% indian .
If you wanna see them come to Mexico to the state of Tlaxcala, then go to a city called Chiautempan and you'll see thousands of indians, they have native lastnames such Cuamatzi, Coyotzi, Ahuatzin, Tlahuitzo, Ilhuicatzi, Yahutentzin, and much more... we speak a mix between spanish, nahuatl and a lil bit of english. The only problem is that most of them are complete assholes because they feel shame for their roots and some other things... well, you have to live here to know how they are...
The girl at 1:27 is beautiful!!! And she is wearing a dress from Tehuantepec, in Oaxaca state, México, with gold jewelry. She is "Mixteca" (my brother´s wife is also from there)
anyone who doesn't know that native americans live out side of America is stupid and retarded. Native Americans live all the way from the most northern parts of Greenland and Iceland and this whole hemisphere, all the way down to the southern most tip of south america. remember, the southern united states used to be part of Mexico and northern Mexico used to be part of the united states.
One of the saddest things for me is not knowing which tribes I am related to. Not being able to trace your history is a terrible feeling. And knowing that you can't trace it because those people were either murdered horribly or forced into slavery makes trying to figure out my heritage into a very depressing venture into history. Entire cultures crushed, people's names changed into European names, languages forbidden. So sad.
Unfortunately, because of European colonization & especially "Mestizaje", I'm unable to trace my Indigenous lineage, back to a specific group. I'm what you would call a mixed person (who make up the majority of Mexico's population). My parents however, are both from the northern part of the present-day Mexican state of Michoacan. Based on this I assume we are most likely part of the Purepecha heritage. I wish I could learn to speak the Purepecha language, but there are no available resources. =(
@Evergr3entree I have a similar problem. My family on my dad's side is obviously native, one can just tell by looking at them. But no one seems to know what tribes we are related to. I took four university classes with a Native American Historian so I could narrow it down to at least ten tribes that we could be. I still have no real answers. The only thing I know for sure is somewhere in the blood line there us Mayan because my great grandmother's family lived near the pyramids.
@thoushaltnotask I noticed you only listed three tribes out of hundreds that were living in places like Mexico. Mexico IS in North America, RETARD! Look at a map! What the hell is a "N. American indian"? I've never heard of that tribe/people.
also remember that the borders of all the countries of North and South America didn't exist before European arrival, and who else do you think lived there before the Spanish colonized Mexico? Also the name Mexica was the original name of the people we now call the Aztecs. Mexica [ME-SHEE-KA] = Mexico.
@thoushaltnotask Google the Yaqui tribe..and then get your facts straight...even if mexico still to this date owned california new mex, texas etc...then the southwestern tribes WOULD be considered MEXICAN!!! im mexican..and is going to be attending the Institute of American Indian Arts...mexicans are native...even to this date my grandparents in mexico speak nahuatl dialect they dont speak spanish fluently.. Native actor Rick Mora is a Apache,Yaqui MEXICAN INDIAN..explain that-dont be ignorant
@thoushaltnotask Native Americans in the U.S. were much smaller tribes than the empires of the Incas, Mayas, and Aztecas. So I doubt it! Besides our people would not fight each other.
Puebla, Oaxaca and most southern states in Mexico that usually live in very low income, shows a high substantial of Native American DNA of almost 68 to 70% Indigenous.
NO SABEN, QUE ESTOS NATIVOS AMERICANOS, SE DISTRIBUYERON POR TODA AMERICA, DESDE NAVAJOS, AZTECAS INCLUSO HASTA IMKAS, QUE NO SOLO EXISTIERON EN EL NORTE DE MEXICO, ESTADOS UNIDOS Y CANADA, QUE LOS VERDADEROS NATIVOS INDIOS NO ERAN GUEROS NI DE OJOS DE COLOR, SINO MUY SIMILARES A LOS DE CENTRO AMERICA Y SUDAMERICA.
this makes me sad! =0( I wish I could have gotten to know my Grandma alot more she was a Mexico Native American...=0( but if i cant learn it from her anymore thx! for posthing this =)
thank you so much for the evidence, now people can stop calling every brown person in america call them "spanish" when they hear them speaking spanish,
i see a lot of people from mexico, and a lot of them look VERY INDIAN ! no doubt about it,
they come here, they are not to be written as hispanic/latino HELL NO!
they should say "indian of mexico" when the apply for a socail security card or when they fill out an application to get a job or somthing like that! :)
@CrazyNative4 Yeah but due to "technical" racial profiling, because we Central and South Americans speak Spanish, and Portuguese, they put us under the Latino file. Ever since it just sort-of stuck with us, we didn't really mind but it does irritate us when ignorant people think they know about our roots.
@CrazyNative4 Indians are from India brother, we are from Anahuac. We refuse the European names placed upon us. We are very much alike and that is because long ago, we were one. We were Anahuac (North America) and the Nican Tlaca were the people who are falsely called Mexican.
@Tezcatlipoca0047 tha mexicans are tha ancestor of tha aztec or mexicas tha tru is that mexicans took tha name from tha aztec becouse tha spanish shiet arrive in tha aztec golden edge plus tha mexica people was tha only one that figt whit tha spanish shiet

If they didn't have the same rights as whites then what makes you think they had them back then? The Spanish treated the Native Mexicans like dirt, if you were Native Mexican you were the lowest bar in colonial Mexican society.
Blackknight1212 11 months ago 2
@niamtxiv And Mexicans didn't hate Native Americans, how could they? They were both in the same situation, robbed of their land and living in poverty. In fact when the peasants kicked out the Spanish they abolished slavery and would help escaped slaves by offering sanctuary in Mexico. If they treated non-natives like that what makes you think they hated other natives. Thats like a black man going to Africa and saying "look at all these disgusting niggers" you can't become white by acting white.
Blackknight1212 11 months ago
@Blackknight1212 actually the name mexico shoudnt exist, because that land is were many tribes live back then and still to this day, mayas, mexicas, raramuris, yaquis, mixteco just to name a few.

gacvjano 6 months ago 2
If you wanna see them come to Mexico to the state of Tlaxcala, then go to a city called Chiautempan and you'll see thousands of indians, they have native lastnames such Cuamatzi, Coyotzi, Ahuatzin, Tlahuitzo, Ilhuicatzi, Yahutentzin, and much more... we speak a mix between spanish, nahuatl and a lil bit of english. The only problem is that most of them are complete assholes because they feel shame for their roots and some other things... well, you have to live here to know how they are...

anyone who doesn't know that native americans live out side of America is stupid and retarded.

So sad.
PersianButtons 1 year ago
Unfortunately, because of European colonization & especially "Mestizaje", I'm unable to trace my Indigenous lineage, back to a specific group. I'm what you would call a mixed person (who make up the majority of Mexico's population). My parents however, are both from the northern part of the present-day Mexican state of Michoacan. Based on this I assume we are most likely part of the Purepecha heritage. I wish I could learn to speak the Purepecha language, but there are no available resources. =(
Evergr3entree 1 year ago 3
@Evergr3entree I have a similar problem. My family on my dad's side is obviously native, one can just tell by looking at them. But no one seems to know what tribes we are related to. I took four university classes with a Native American Historian so I could narrow it down to at least ten tribes that we could be. I still have no real answers. The only thing I know for sure is somewhere in the blood line there us Mayan because my great grandmother's family lived near the pyramids.

iheartmaryjane100 1 year ago
also remember that the borders of all the countries of North and South America didn't exist before European arrival, and who else do you think lived there before the Spanish colonized Mexico? Also the name Mexica was the original name of the people we now call the Aztecs. Mexica [ME-SHEE-KA] = Mexico.
iheartmaryjane100 1 year ago
@thoushaltnotask Google the Yaqui tribe..and then get your facts straight...even if mexico still to this date owned california new mex, texas etc...then the southwestern tribes WOULD be considered MEXICAN!!! im mexican..and is going to be attending the Institute of American Indian Arts...mexicans are native...even to this date my grandparents in mexico speak nahuatl dialect they dont speak spanish fluently.. Native actor Rick Mora is a Apache,Yaqui MEXICAN INDIAN..explain that-dont be ignorant

@thoushaltnotask incas live in peru
AztecTripleAlliance 1 year ago
@thoushaltnotask Native Americans in the U.S. were much smaller tribes than the empires of the Incas, Mayas, and Aztecas. So I doubt it! Besides our people would not fight each other.

Puebla, Oaxaca and most southern states in Mexico that usually live in very low income, shows a high substantial of Native American DNA of almost 68 to 70% Indigenous.

NO SABEN, QUE ESTOS NATIVOS AMERICANOS, SE DISTRIBUYERON POR TODA AMERICA, DESDE NAVAJOS, AZTECAS INCLUSO HASTA IMKAS, QUE NO SOLO EXISTIERON EN EL NORTE DE MEXICO, ESTADOS UNIDOS Y CANADA, QUE LOS VERDADEROS NATIVOS INDIOS NO ERAN GUEROS NI DE OJOS DE COLOR, SINO MUY SIMILARES A LOS DE CENTRO AMERICA Y SUDAMERICA.

they come here, they are not to be written as hispanic/latino HELL NO!
they should say "indian of mexico" when the apply for a socail security card or when they fill out an application to get a job or somthing like that! :)
CrazyNative4 2 years ago 35
@CrazyNative4 Yeah but due to "technical" racial profiling, because we Central and South Americans speak Spanish, and Portuguese, they put us under the Latino file. Ever since it just sort-of stuck with us, we didn't really mind but it does irritate us when ignorant people think they know about our roots.
Blackknight1212 1 year ago
@CrazyNative4 Indians are from India brother, we are from Anahuac. We refuse the European names placed upon us. We are very much alike and that is because long ago, we were one. We were Anahuac (North America) and the Nican Tlaca were the people who are falsely called Mexican.
