@JOOOHHHNNNN I know you can take a track in AE and split up the highs mids and lows (or as many as you can be bothered to) and then use some sort of algorithm to get the data to resemble a scratching peaky EQ. The output can then be set to the width or hight of a mask. I believe Video Co-pilot did a tutorial on the splitting of the sound track for use in an EQ, and how to route the output. Obviously this is me quessing, I have no-idea how Fytch (or whoever made it) did this.
