Hi Dave. First of all, thank you so much for all this content, especially your lessons which are helping me so much!
Now, i have a question for you. I was looking for a compressor and decided to order the Maxon CP-101, as i too am very sensible to noise. Although i'm very happy with its performance, there's a thing i'm worrying about and wondering if its normal: when i'm using a hot pickups guitar, with the guitars volume all the way up and strumming hard, i get the pedal to clip. Is it normal?
Hey dave i really love the pedalboard! i do have one suggestion, i think you should check out the Pigtronix Philosophers Tone Compressor. It is optical just like your maxon but in my opinion is much more versatile!
Hi Dave, have you ever use a a noise suppressor on your board and whats your opinion on them? Where is a good place to put it, down my line of my board is a tuner, Wah, OD, compressor, delay, verb.
Hey Dave quick question: do you pick any noise of the powerpedal2+ with the WAH engaged? I noticed both are very closed to each other. I noticed a few pedalboard lately with wahs and pedalpower in near proximity. Personally I do have noise only when engaged and on OD channels. (unless you move away the wah) same happens to you? you just cope with it? Thanx again for all this priceless infos every weeks!
hello man from italy..one question:are your pedal true bypass??i after 10 years with my pedalboard made by me with all boss pedals today i known that they are not true-bypass....lol....what you think??
@bluebb29 True bypass is not really that important, higher end pedals have super good buffered bypass which in some cases is even better than true bypass.
hi dave... who made your pedalboard... and how are you powering the two eventide boxes i have the modfactor and no power supply will handle that much AC current 1300 mA's
Hi dave. I'm in the process of buying a power supply unit. I have the maxon VOP 9 also but I've read that the Voodoo labs PP2+ can't power it up when the pedal its set to run internally at 18v. How do you connect yours? Are you connecting it to the line6 outputs (that have more mA)? are you runnning the vop9 at 18v internally? thnks!
i can only buy 1 booster/overdrive pedal. do you think vop9 will do better than od 9 as a booster for distortion pedal? i want something clean transparent to nice chug overdrive. thanks dave
hey dave im looking for an overdrive pedal that can boost my fulltone ocd and wampler plextortion. im interested in maxon vop and od9. which one is more versatile and good as a booster? any other overdrives would you recomend? i play blues to heavy rock. thanks
Neither are really boosters. But I recommend the VOP9 over any Fulltone. IF you want to boost your current pedals try the Xotic RC Booster or EP Booster
Hey Dave, I've been reading about how tube amps have a much better sound than solid state amps. Like how the sound of overdriven tubes sound so good. But I was wondering, if you have a tube amp, but use pedals for distortion, doesn't it defeat the purpose of the tube amp? I hope this wasn't a stupid question. :) Thanks!
Thanks for your quick reply! So overdrive pedals still keep the natural sound of the amp? Do they overdrive the tubes in the amp? Cause at first I couldn't see the point in buying a tube amp if I were to just use pedals.
right. get your basic gain/dist sound from a nice tube amp and then "color" it if you want with nice pedals. I use pedals subtly over my amp, I used them much more obviously for demo purposes over the clean channel.
@DAVEWEINER I recently discovered the power of a good overdrive pedal myself, and I've found that sometimes I don't even need the distortion channel, just crank the gain/drive on the OD pedal and you get a nice "soft" and smooth kind of distortion that sounds sweet and gives a nice growl on chords. Then if I have a need to do some chunky riffage I'll kick in the drive channel with just a touch more gain.
dave, i love you and your videos! do you like mesa boogie? i finally bought a triple rectifier but there is so much noise compared to my last amp. . especially when i start using my pedal distortions at the same time . . and ive been considering a keeley compressor
Have your mesa checked. My mesa roadster is really quiet. Good thing I live near petaluma I can just drop by their shop and have it repaired. Try backing off on the gain because i see you use distortion pedals too.
Use your recto's distortion and use your distortion box as a boost when you need a little more gain.
ive been hellbent on a new overdrive to replace my stock ts9. ive been looking at the lovepedal kanji eternity and the maxon vop9..i think ill spend a little xtra to get the vop9 because it really does have a nice sound and doesnt rob all the bass frequencies..nice!!!
I don't own any besides an old TU-2 and the Loop Station which I keep at GIT. I think in general they're ok to start with but leave a lot left to be desired once you start wanting high quality.
i always tend to run delays through an effects loop - and to be honest, im not sure why. when i bought my first delay 5 or 6 years ago thats what was recommended to me.
is there a big difference in sound? i would try it myself now, but im at univesrity, so ive only got a really stripped-down rig here.
Dave, I've been looking for a compressor but just haven't pulled the trigger yet. Is the CP101 true bypass? I can't wait for your followup video deonstrating the sounds of your pedals. Thanks for sharing!
Tkx for sharing you knowledge, wisdom and patience with us Dave. God Bless you and shed a light in the winding road that is to be a musician, not only being a guitar player ;)
Hey Dave, do you hook up the delay/reverb and modulations to the send and return of your amp, and the wah/compressor/ODs to the front end of the amp, as is traditionally done?
Congratz on 4 Years of sharing your brilliance with all of us. Good to see someone else with a rack of OD's on the board. I always get teased for it. I'm more into blues, so I've got a Fulltone Catalyst in my chain.
So it looks like you have your comp after the wah. Care to explain the theory behind it? I always thought you should have it as the first component.

Great video there Dave... I had one question though.. I've always wondered what advantage to custom pedal-boards have over multi-effects processors, such the Pod x3 from Line 6, etc... I'm sure someone's probably asked you this before Dave but what do you think of multi effect units such as the line 6 POD?

they're cool for messing around but i don't think the quality matches stand-alones unless it's rack units like the Eclipse.
DAVEWEINER 2 years ago
So just curious, but what is it that the Pedal Power does that the DC brick doesn't.
jg76aries 2 years ago
