  • how do you feel about thefulldrive mosfet from fulltone ?

  • @DAVEWEINER how do you feel about the BB Preamp by xotic

  • @MrFelixRiley - Great pedal. I use it occasionally.

  • Hey Dave! I was wondering if you have ever tried the Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive? If so, how would you compare it to the RC boost and TS808?

  • @ifenderbender - I have a Sparkle Drive, but haven't used it in years. I found it lacking character that the RC and Keeley 808 have.

  • @ifenderbender - Yes I've had one for many years. Nice but doesn't have the character of the RC or Keeley 808.

  • Hi Dave. First of all, thank you so much for all this content, especially your lessons which are helping me so much!

Now, i have a question for you. I was looking for a compressor and decided to order the Maxon CP-101, as i too am very sensible to noise. Although i'm very happy with its performance, there's a thing i'm worrying about and wondering if its normal: when i'm using a hot pickups guitar, with the guitars volume all the way up and strumming hard, i get the pedal to clip. Is it normal?

  • @zuvor - no the pedal shouldn't clip. Nothing should clip, means something is overloading.

  • Why are Dunlop Dc brick pedal power not so good?

  • @TheGuitarMartin - it's noisy

  • what brand of pedalboard is that???

  • Hey dave i really love the pedalboard! i do have one suggestion, i think you should check out the Pigtronix Philosophers Tone Compressor. It is optical just like your maxon but in my opinion is much more versatile!

  • What brand pedalboard and how much did it cost

  • Dear dave.

Can you please tell me some good brands for effects to get close to steve's sound.

But I'd rather not buy a jemini because of the price.

    Please help me!

  • no whammy?

  • Hi Dave, have you ever use a a noise suppressor on your board and whats your opinion on them? Where is a good place to put it, down my line of my board is a tuner, Wah, OD, compressor, delay, verb.

  • Hi Dave is the pedal power powering both eventides?

  • @7stringjim - but supposedly the new Voodoo power will.

  • Hey Dave quick question: do you pick any noise of the powerpedal2+ with the WAH engaged? I noticed both are very closed to each other. I noticed a few pedalboard lately with wahs and pedalpower in near proximity. Personally I do have noise only when engaged and on OD channels. (unless you move away the wah) same happens to you? you just cope with it? Thanx again for all this priceless infos every weeks!

  • five seasons!? where the hell have I been?

  • When will the RJM product be out that you are working on?

  • @colbys1019 - I hear protos by summer namm.

  • @DAVEWEINER when are they going out?

  • @DAVEWEINER whn is ti coming?

  • how do you power up the eventide pedals from your voodoo lab? thanks

  • hello man from italy..one question:are your pedal true bypass??i after 10 years with my pedalboard made by me with all boss pedals today i known that they are not true-bypass....lol....what you think??

  • @bluebb29 True bypass is not really that important, higher end pedals have super good buffered bypass which in some cases is even better than true bypass.

  • hi dave... who made your pedalboard... and how are you powering the two eventide boxes i have the modfactor and no power supply will handle that much AC current 1300 mA's

  • Hi,Dave! I noticed during the video that you said "any TS808 needs to be modified"I was wondering why they need to be modified?

  • they lose the low end

  • @DAVEWEINER Ahhhh! I understand.Thanks!

  • Hi dave. I'm in the process of buying a power supply unit. I have the maxon VOP 9 also but I've read that the Voodoo labs PP2+ can't power it up when the pedal its set to run internally at 18v. How do you connect yours? Are you connecting it to the line6 outputs (that have more mA)? are you runnning the vop9 at 18v internally? thnks!

  • i can only buy 1 booster/overdrive pedal. do you think vop9 will do better than od 9 as a booster for distortion pedal? i want something clean transparent to nice chug overdrive. thanks dave

  • hey dave im looking for an overdrive pedal that can boost my fulltone ocd and wampler plextortion. im interested in maxon vop and od9. which one is more versatile and good as a booster? any other overdrives would you recomend? i play blues to heavy rock. thanks

  • Neither are really boosters. But I recommend the VOP9 over any Fulltone. IF you want to boost your current pedals try the Xotic RC Booster or EP Booster

  • Dave, thank you for the killer lessons. Does the Pedal Power 2 allow you to run 18V pedals?

  • yes with a 2 to 1 cable. Vodoo Lab is putting out a new power supply that will do 18v from 1 port.

  • I'm sure someone's probably asked you this before Dave but what do you think of multi effect units such as the line 6 POD?

  • they're cool for messing around but i don't think the quality matches stand-alones unless it's rack units like the Eclipse.

  • So just curious, but what is it that the Pedal Power does that the DC brick doesn't.

  • It's noiseless where the brick isn't fully shielded and can be noisy.

  • Cool thanks, I've been looking at power options for board and hadn't settled on one or the other yet.

  • Oop, meant to say *my* board.

  • Hey Dave, I've been reading about how tube amps have a much better sound than solid state amps. Like how the sound of overdriven tubes sound so good. But I was wondering, if you have a tube amp, but use pedals for distortion, doesn't it defeat the purpose of the tube amp? I hope this wasn't a stupid question. :) Thanks!

  • Exactly. Which is why I don't use distortion pedals, only overdrive.

  • Thanks for your quick reply! So overdrive pedals still keep the natural sound of the amp? Do they overdrive the tubes in the amp? Cause at first I couldn't see the point in buying a tube amp if I were to just use pedals.

    Thanks

  • right. get your basic gain/dist sound from a nice tube amp and then "color" it if you want with nice pedals. I use pedals subtly over my amp, I used them much more obviously for demo purposes over the clean channel.

  • Ok. Thanks! So I guess the amp I should get should be footswitchable so that I can still use its own gain sound. Right?

Thanks a lot for your help! Now all I need is money to buy an amp haha.

I just wanted to also say thanks for the videos you make. They always inspire/help me to get better at guitar.

  • @DAVEWEINER I recently discovered the power of a good overdrive pedal myself, and I've found that sometimes I don't even need the distortion channel, just crank the gain/drive on the OD pedal and you get a nice "soft" and smooth kind of distortion that sounds sweet and gives a nice growl on chords. Then if I have a need to do some chunky riffage I'll kick in the drive channel with just a touch more gain.

  • you're better than steve vai

  • dave, i love you and your videos! do you like mesa boogie? i finally bought a triple rectifier but there is so much noise compared to my last amp. . especially when i start using my pedal distortions at the same time . . and ive been considering a keeley compressor

  • Have your mesa checked. My mesa roadster is really quiet. Good thing I live near petaluma I can just drop by their shop and have it repaired. Try backing off on the gain because i see you use distortion pedals too.

Use your recto's distortion and use your distortion box as a boost when you need a little more gain.

  • ive been hellbent on a new overdrive to replace my stock ts9. ive been looking at the lovepedal kanji eternity and the maxon vop9..i think ill spend a little xtra to get the vop9 because it really does have a nice sound and doesnt rob all the bass frequencies..nice!!!

  • What do you think about Boss pedals? Greetings from Serbia...

  • I don't own any besides an old TU-2 and the Loop Station which I keep at GIT. I think in general they're ok to start with but leave a lot left to be desired once you start wanting high quality.

  • Dave did you record at home?

  • I record everything but drums at home. But the next record will be done as a band live in a studio which is what I highly recommend to anyone else.

  • What type of software and hardware do you use to record at home? By the way I can't wait to hear your new stuff.

  • I love the Mac and the iPhone in the background. :D

  • and the desk.. his is same like mine.. =P

  • hows the time factor sound out front?

i always tend to run delays through an effects loop - and to be honest, im not sure why. when i bought my first delay 5 or 6 years ago thats what was recommended to me.

is there a big difference in sound? i would try it myself now, but im at univesrity, so ive only got a really stripped-down rig here.

  • I run it in the loop with my Ultralead, but it works perfectly fine in front of amps that don't have loops like a Twin or Bassman.

  • oh, yes!!

  • Another great video, and another great season. Congratulations Dave, we'll all keep watching for as long as you keep rocking!

  • Dave how do you fix your pedals down?

  • Ehm, heard of velcro?

  • Good stuff Dave. Congrats on five seasons! Here's to five more :)

  • Hey Dave,

I have the TimeFactor and RC (Scott Henderson) as well... Love 'm both!!

But is your PedalPower feeding the Eventides?

    Keep up the Good work!!

    Joost

  • CP 101...nice

  • Dave, I've been looking for a compressor but just haven't pulled the trigger yet. Is the CP101 true bypass? I can't wait for your followup video deonstrating the sounds of your pedals. Thanks for sharing!

  • Tkx for sharing you knowledge, wisdom and patience with us Dave. God Bless you and shed a light in the winding road that is to be a musician, not only being a guitar player ;)

  • Thanks again Dave.

  • Dave, aside from the quality of your lessons, the quality of this video is also very goooood ;)

    What camera do you use?

  • Killer gear !

  • Hey Dave, do you hook up the delay/reverb and modulations to the send and return of your amp, and the wah/compressor/ODs to the front end of the amp, as is traditionally done?

  • Nice and insightfull vid Davey

  • Thanks for sharing, Dave. I'm an avid follower of ROTW. I am really learning a lot from you. Keep it up! :)

  • Congratz on 4 Years of sharing your brilliance with all of us. Really appreciate all your lessons, its made being a musician , a lot more enjoyable and the music that comes out...well better than what it used to be. :) Thanks heaps Dave and by the way, is that a VOX I spy with my little eye? AC30? :o

  • Yes. I borrow Vai's AC30 to try it out.

  • Nice! :D

  • hey dave, congrats for all this 4 year!! now that we have seen that new version of the pedalboard it would be cool to see how you use those pedal with the guitar plugged to hear your sound =)

  • Yes I will be doing a subsidiary vid playing through it soon

  • Grats on the 5th year now Dave. Thanks for all your efforts.

  • your quality is so good and you dont even use HD..or atleast you dont have that option on the bar..

  • What brand is that pedalboard and it's dimensions? Looks great!

  • Anvil. 34"x16"

  • geez... 4 overdrive pedals? otherwise, i like the setup, dave. very intuitive setup.

  • RC booster ftw! I'm hoping to get one for christmas. :)

  • hey dave you know what whould be cool!?

to see you mess around with this stuff and jamming and and... i dont know

  • electro harmonic holy grail plus reavers batman!

  • i did some OMT thing, and emailed you but never got a response.

  • all OMT responses/sihrts going out after Thanksgiving. Thx!

  • Id rather have Petrucci's set up! But I still like Dave's sounds though!

  • Right as I'm starting to build my board! Much love Dave, and great timing. :)

  • great vid, always cool to look into another guitarist's board... what are those monitors in the background? how do you think they sound

  • you should leak what ibanez is planning for winter namm of 2010 :D, greetings from mexico.

  • I'm not endorsing Ibanez anymore so I don't really know. But I do know some new Vai stuff is coming out.

  • @DAVEWEINER Why, what happened?

  • I declined their contract extension because I don't want to be exclusive to one company right now without certain terms met.

  • wow, a comment from the man himself :D Very cool with the Vai stuff but i found it weird how Tony McAlpine just got endorsed by ibanez and you are not endorsed anymore. Hope you tour in mexico, monterrey to be more precise.

    greetings once again

  • Season 5!!!! Wow, that's a lot, man. Thanks for the videos. This sure helps every guitar player out there. Good job Dave. Congrats.

  • On the maxon compressor pedal, what's the different's between the red one's and the black one's??? Great vid.

  • Dave, what's in the loop if any????

  • With the way you were describing the RC Booster, I was truly expecting you to say "when you just need to go to 11".. hah!

Good to see someone else with a rack of OD's on the board. I always get teased for it. I'm more into blues, so I've got a Fulltone Catalyst in my chain.

So it looks like you have your comp after the wah. Care to explain the theory behind it? I always thought you should have it as the first component.

  • thanks for your great/godly opinion. good luck on building that multimini pedal :) maybe ill see you in canada. rock on,

    your fan, jeremy

  • No, Dave. Thanks to YOU for all the knowledge.

  • real nice to see all your gear and your thinkings of the set-up. would be great if you could do a lesson next week to play through your different sounds and the colours they give too your awsome playing! loving the new Vai dvd too, I bet that its magic playing with musicians like that for weeks on end!!!

    cheers again

  • this was really helpful dave, congratson season 5 and keep up the good work!! greetings from Argentina =)

  • Hi, Dave

Could you demo the Maxon OD9 Pro+?

  • alright season 5 congrats on making it here dave and sick set up!

  • Hi Dave.

How do you control all of your tones in a show?

And do you use the overdrives on top of the amp overdrive channel ore the clean?

    Bjarke, Denmark

  • Great video there Dave... I had one question though.. I've always wondered what advantage to custom pedal-boards have over multi-effects processors, such the Pod x3 from Line 6, etc... I've been using a Korg AX3000G (certainly not the best!) for years now and have been pretty satisfied with what I get out of it. Would you suggest that getting a pedal board would be better? Thanks a million Dave...

  • biggest advantage is effects quallity, mostly distortions/overdrives.

  • Nice socks Dave! No, really, good video. Where did you get the pedalboard and the case? Did you got em custom made?

  • They're made by Anvil. I bought mine through Tour Supply.

  • love you dave. you help a learning guitar kid.

  • dave weiner=WIN

  • Another great lesson dave, really really contrats, very useful tips. Thanks again!

  • Thanks Dave. How would one go about getting one of those ROTW mouse pads?

  • Surely it all depends on what sounds you like? Building up a decent pedal board, I'd say, is more a thing you should find out on your own. It's all about just what kind of sound you aim to make.

  • Love your videos Dave ! You've got a lot of fans in France ! And I am one of those. :D

  • love your videos !! keep up the awesome stuff

  • great advice and recommendations! Thanks man! :)

  • First viewer!!! Nitido (Spanish word)! Very interesting, thanks for sharing all kind of information with us the viewers. Appreciated!!! 5 Stars.

  • season 5 is going to be awesome!

  • Keep It Going your AWESOME Dave. Seriously can't wait for new album hopefully this Xmas . LOL ROACK ON WEINER

  • New record will not be out this year.

  • Sweet!

  • nice one D keep it up dude
