OLP got it better; their video was better also.. but this was a good try, a nice alternative. I just believe OLP captured the essense of the song. Many people see this as a suicide song; which is something you really dont capture when David is singing.. but thats ok, its like a more hip version of a sad song.

Actually, if you look at it, almost all the other top 12 contestants had even more experience or connections than he did. Archuleta had won Star Search, Castro was on the MTV show Cheyenne, Carly released a record on MCA while Randy was working for them, Kristy Lee Cook had her album released by a major Nashville label, Michael Johns' old band had a major label deal, the list goes on.

Anyway, the original is my favourite song of all time, so for not totally butchering it, props to Cook.

Hardcore OLP fan here. I have to say that David Cook did a decent job singing this, but nothing can touch Raine Maida's original version. You can try to imitate Raine's voice, but you can't imitate the raw emotion he sings with.

Sorry, but this doesn't hold up a light to the original. I agree with the sentiment that it doesn't sound sincere. There's no new direction in it, it's just a failed attempt at replication. Both the background singers and the guitar riffs just sound watered down.

I guess this works in the context of the rock SINGER, but I just can't appreciate it as a complete song.
