@BTCRAIL101FILMS That isn't accurate, GE's 6000 Hp reliability was at par with EMDs, UP had there 4400 HP AC6000s and never upgraded them to a full 6000 like intended, and EMDs 4300 HP versions had much better reliability than the 6000 HP versions. CSX decided to keep the 6000 HP engine but it took a long time to get it worked out. EMD actually worked out a lot of there flaws as well.
its almost impossible to hear the awesome growl these locomotives have above the wheel screaming. Thanks for posting without cheezy background music. I wish I was there in person
I got a chance to see these locomotives in action. If it were not for reliability issues, this locomotive would have won the horsepower race. This locomotive came from the factory weighing 425,000lbs while producing 200,000lbs of starting tractive effort. CSX had to boost the weight of their AC6000CWs to 432,000lbs and add adhesion software to achieve the exact same tractive effort. UP has reported heavy slippage with their AC6000CWs weighing in at 425,000.
These are real SD90MAC's with the H engine, they started at 8500, and you can tell the gabled carbody above the prime mover which is different than the 9043MAC's. The first 20 or so 8500's were delivered with the same old style cab as the 9043MAC's and SD70M's.
Great video, i was wondering when someone would upload a good video of these beasts! Its a shame that they are going to the torch after so few yeas on the road :(
@pengapop12 The SD90MACs had unbelieveable pulling power! I was stationed at Fort Riley, KS and spent some of my weekends at the UP yard in Kansas City at the bottoms. One day I heard a very loud train in the distance in which the ground literally shook, no exaggeration! When the train appeared, it was 2 Phase II SD90MACs pulling an endless mixed freight. They were chugging like GEs. Thats the 4 cycle H engine.
Wrong! Some of these are in leasing service.

Its funny how EMD got 6000hp into it but failed while GE got 6000hp and won! wow...that says something to all EMD/GE haters/lovers!!

@csx5400 The UP AC6000s only had 4400 HP, so you can not say the same about the 6000 HP AC6000s.

Excellent video. I'd love to see and hear one or two of these pulling a freight up a grade. Just so I can say that I have.

Do you know why they stoped making SD90MACs?
adtrains75 1 year ago
@adtrains75 Main reason was that they where not very reliable. Some where retired with less then 5 yrs service.
