  • @CelebrateReason Swinging increases explosive strength more and strict increases balanced strength more.

    Explosive strength would be going all out....Balanced strength would be a type of explosive strength, but having more control and better range in movement.

    Balance is better.

  • @AndyHarglesis You can actually focus on explosive strength by selecting a weight that is 50-60% of your one rep max with strict form, and lifting fast without swinging the weight. Yeah, or you could just swing that weight around and get a good cardio workout. And where do you come up with "balanced strength"? Did you make that up? Go read The Science and Practice of Strength Training by V.M. Zatsiorsky. Then we'll talk.

He reveals the scientific secrets the Russians used to win so many of the Olympic games back in the day. He knows all about explosive strength. But seriously, what do you mean by balanced strength?

  • Ugh, 500 character limit is probably not enough, but "balanced strength" is actually one of my own personal discoveries based on how some forms of natural strength work. See, by "balanced strength" it actually means a certain amount of force that can be applied in the shortest time and measured evenly through a course of time of at least 30 seconds evenly. To make this easier it means a certain amount of strength that, once applied, can be equally measured for a certain amount of time.

    This guys upper body is massive as im sure his lower back muscles are. Which you can plainly see in his form (Its clean and shows control). The fact your even arguing these results just makes you a "20 year shit talker".

  • @willieofroanoke I'm with you bro. This guy's form is awful, plain and simple. He didn't get those arms by just doing this exercise, duh. And while you will get somewhat of a workout by cheating the whole time, you are cheating yourself in the long run. As to the comment that pro bodybuilders use cheating, it is true, but they use good form until they can't get any more reps, then they cheat a few more. I'm just not impressed by a youtube video of a guy swinging the weight the whole time. kids!

  • look man, I'm not saying I could do better, but if your swinging as much as you are, then you shouldn't be doing that weight. I usually don't say i can do an amount of weight unless i can do it with my body completely still, and my arms are the only thing moving.

    And for people who will ask, no, i don't prop my elbow against my side, thats cheating just as much as swinging the weight is.

  • At least you hyperextend your arms, but you are swinging it up. Bet you only get half the reps, if that, with NO swinging - try it sometime. I can swing that weight up like you for 12-15. BUT, I use STRICT FORM, arms locked out, NO swinging, I get 2, need help on 3 with that weight.
