@METALWEED420 There is no such thing as Pirate Metal, they are Power with Folky influences, that's it. Don't base a band on their lyrics or gimmick, base it off the sound and Alestorm is not all that original Power Metal, with a folky segment here and there.

@METALWEED420 Honestly, I actually think I do, just because a band says they are genre X doesn't mean they are actually that genre. If a band comes out with a new album tomorrow and deems it "Extreme Racism and Porn +18 Junky Metal", would you call em that? I think not, their genre is defined by the SOUND and they sound, apart from the folky instruments here and there, like Running Wild in a new, less creative jacket.

A band may consider themselves the best band in the world, but it still it might not be true. Rhapsody has claimed that their genre has been both melodic power metal, hollywood metal, filmscore metal etc. Still they did not invent a new genre for each CD they gave out. Sabaton would still be power metal if they called themselves war metal or battle metal. And they still would be in the heavy metal genre (of which power metal is a sub-genre) even if they said they played Jazz....

Why is it so important for you to categorize bands by genre? You must be one of those genre-snobs. Genres is just a way to describe the music and pirate metal FITS Alestorm better because they do not sound like the other typical metal bands.

Yeah but dude, he's not jsut singing like it, he is it. But yeah, this thing where people pretend they pioneered some new kind of music is old, but I like to hear something diferent. The only thing I would argue is that Narnia sounds like Yngwie with Mike Vescera. Actually most of this stuff seems a little far off of power metal and more neoclassical metal, but I'm just old I guess lol.

Glad to see Alestorm. The best band to come from my native Scotland in years.

Also glad to see Narnia. If I didn't hate the books, I'm sure I'd like them more.

Narnia is indeed good, but it's so hard to find their stuff on YouTube, most of the clips I find are of the Narnia movie(s). And when I first saw you were including a band with the name of Draconian, I was rather confused, because the first band that popped into my mind was the Doom Metal band of the same name, I didn't know there was a power metal band by this name. And then I end up liking them the most out of all of them. Except maybe Magica.
