I liked the video. I have used both colors of the shea butter. I haven't noticed anything different from one to the other. They smell EXACTLY the same and behaves in the same matter of melting when you rub it in. Whether it's African butter, shea butter or whatever it's still effective in doing what it's supposed to do.
Love the shea butter, both white and yellow are glorious. I use both! LOL! For example, I used yellow last night but this morning I used white, Glory to God, lol.
To clarify further, Kpangnan butter is usually bright yellow. There are some shea butters that have a slight yellow tinge but, they are Grade B shea butter and have other butters or root powders added to them in processing. They are not Grade A, unrefined shea butter.
Yellow "shea butter" is more often than not Kpangnan Butter, from the African Butter tree. While it has similar benefits to shea butter, it is NOT shea butter. True, unrefined shea butter is off-white to beige, NOT white. Any shea butter that is pure white is ultra-refined. You should watch DuchessGabrielle to start your research as she really breaks down the differences. Your customers deserve to know the difference.
I tried both of them and here are the differences: the white one has no odour but the yellow one has a strong odour, people may not like it, but after 5 minutes this odour disappears when put on the skin; I noticed also that the yellow one is softer and smoother than the white one.
@cubbz5 damn, lol, I have been buying yellow, but others say to buy white. didn't get to watch this video because it keeps buffering...hmmmm wonder if there is a video on how to stop videos from buffering lol
@daniellejudithjj The color of unrefined shea butter is not pure white but, more of an off white to beige. If you shea butter is pure white, it is ultra refined and if it is yellow, it is kpangnan butter, also known as "African butter" and is not the same as shea, though it does have similar beneficial properties.
@cubbz5 The more articles I read, the more confused I get. got my product yesterday. it is shealoe (50%shea butter&50% aloevera) from a very reputable company(camden grey) The color is off white. supposedly it is refined. I also just read an article that said it should look beige& Nigeria, not Ghana had the best. I have never seen anything with Nigeria's name on it. the only thing I see in common with these two countries is that they both are in West Africa, so does it really....part 1
@daniellejudithjj ooops I meant shea butter from camden grey is unrefined. I bought numerous butters. can't wait to make my new concoction for hair and body. I don't know & will probably never know what is real, fake or half real, but what I do know is someone is laughing all the way to the bank and it isn't the laborers.....
I tried to post part 2 but it keeps reading as an error. will try again
White is no better than yellow and vice versa. The one thing that some people said they notice was different on some of the sites I visited is that they felt that their hair was softer after using the yellow shea and from me personally the smell of the white one is noticeable.. Once again white or yellow shouldn't matter but it definitely shouldn't be pure white, make sure it is off white if you do buy the white kind.
I've been to many sites trying to find out the difference since I recently bought white shea butter. The only thing I saw which you should avoid is shea that is pure white, that has definitely been refined. If it is off white with a greyish tint or yellow then you are ok. that just means they came from different areas and nuts. If it has a fowl odor then it may be rotten. It should smell nutty or smokey.
I bought the white, the yellow and the ivory (the one you showed in the small container).
The yellow shea is disgusting, it smells like petroleum.
The white one has no smell.
Both of these melts easily and they feel like vaseline.
I can vouch that the ivory shea butter is the real deal. It has a nutty scent and it's grainy. It does not melt easily, it has to be massaged between the hands to melt.
That is not true Shea Butter. True Shea Butter has a little smoke smell to it and it is beige or really light yellow; that's just semantics or however you see the color. It is not bright yellow.
As we would when shopping for most things, TRY BOTH and see how YOU like them. Kpangya has a powdery-dry-silky feeling on skin/hair that you may prefer to Shea or vice versa. You may like both and use for skin and the other for hair. Be careful of buying a DYED YELLOW shea butter, if what you intended to buy is Kpangya instead. I hear some merchants do that because the yellow sells better because we are THINKING erroneously that the yellow color means AUTHENTIC REAL THING. It is if its kpangya,
Afseller, and all merchants, would do well to just tell the truth, or do the research if you really aren't aware that the yellow butter IS NOT shea butter. The yellow butter that we get in korean and african beauty supply stores is actually Kpangna Butter, equally, if not more beneficial to skin/hair. Honest sites sell both shea and kpangna separately for same price or a little more for the Kpangya. Shea Nut tree is grown in desert climate, and Kpangya in the rainforests/riverbanks. Google it.
It's funny seeing you guys debate about an African product and have no expirience of AFRICA and trying to say whether shea butter is white or yellow. In Ghana, the shea butter is yellow and the one in the picture above is from Ghana. When the shea butter is exposed to the sun for too long or over heated it turns white.
I live in England....most of the time when i watch youtube channels I notice that most people (most) from the United States have purchased the 'yellow' shea butter. As for people in the UK they usually have purchased the 'white' shea butter. My question is......HOW CAN SUCH BRIGHT YELLOW STUFF be produced from a whitish..ivory nut?? since i started getting my shea butter on different websites..i always receive the ivory and for those complaining about the smell....well its a nut so expect it
The Shea butter dilemma! I'm confused. I really want to use Shea butter; so i bought some online after reading so many review. it was a beige or ivory color. It was great, but i just couldn't stand the smell. I just order some new shea butter from amazon and it claims to be 100% pure &raw shea butter. I haven't received it yet, and idk what to make of shea butter. I really want to like it bc of its benefits but I can't seem to find the right one!
The true shea butter is in fact off-white, ivory, or beige. The yellow is NOT shea butter it is african butter. However, some companies DYE the real shea butter to make it look like african butter. Im sorry sir, but you need to take this video down because it is an ignorant and decieving analysis of shea butter. IT MAKES ME QUESTION YOUR OTHER VIDEOS.
There are people who tell us all the time that the yellow shea butter is the only true shea butter; and others tell us that the white is the only true shea butter. We have not been able to find anything objective or conclusive to say that one color is authentic (or more authentic) than the other. We present them both as being equally effective. This is generally the experience of other people we have worked with in selling African shea butter for the last eight years.
@afseller My boyfriend is from Ghana and his parents are prominant in the villiage that he is from for producing shea butter and they themselves will tell you the same thing. The yellow butter comes from a totally different tree in a totally different environment. Oh and by the way, his family has been doing this for 10 generations.
I knew it, I knew it, I knew it, yes, preach blackindian81, preach! I use to buy shea butter years and years ago from some people that were selling it here in Michigan back in the mid to late 80's and they told me that real shea butter is NOT yellow! Raw Real Shea butter is either off-white, ivory, or beige and sometimes you actually see the pieces of the shell within it, however it melts away at the touch of your body temp. You are on point girl, Shea butter is not yellow
You are wrong. I buy both white and yellow shea butter from "back to africa dot com" and both are real shea. They both have the same nutty scent except the yellow has a stronger scent. The texture is the same and they both feel amazing on the skin. There are a lot of people selling knock off shea laced with other things. Buy both white and yellow shea butter from a reputable mechant then come to a conclusion.
Everyone, visit DuchessGabrielle's page. Seeing how she if FROM Africa, she can tell you the difference and she does in many of her videos. Check out her channel. I find her much more credible than this guy.
I have 'marriaged' my white and yellow Shea butters together to make a soft blend. I really think it's based on preference. I prefer the yellow....ahem....golden butter and have tried 'raw', 'organic', 'unrefined'. Unless you are right there when the butter is being made, you dont know what's in it! Just say before applying the butter: "Oh, higher being (insert name), bless this butter I am about to apply to my skin and letteth not it make my skin turn green or my hair to fall out." LOL!
Well to all the Comments. I would like to Add my Advice:)
I have Both: I have the Yellow Butter (Shea Butter) whatever you want to Call it).
I Also have the White Shea Butter. Both of them do Exactly what they are suppose to do. Which is they are Excellent on the Hair, Face & Body. Everybody get so caught up on this & that ... The Main thing is they both are GREAT! I have attached my Video on
My African Shea Butter please check it Out! Be Blessed....
I Know A Lady From Ghana Who Says That Yellow Shea Butter Is Actually Much Better Since It Is Not Boiled As Long More Nutrients Remain Intact. Whoever Says Yellow Shea Butter Isn't Real Is An Idiot!
@SkiMasqKydd I've always heard that the yellow Shea butter is the real deal and the white is not. And now it's the other way around. At this point I just say go with what you like cause you never know who to believe. I had a roommate from Trinidad that would go to this African shop and buy yellow Shea butter and she has never had any problems or complaints, neither have I. I'll just use what I can find and work which is the yellow one.
sorry, but you are the idiot. what is sold as yellow, or golden, shea butter is actually Kpangnan butter. it's also good stuff, but cheaper because more plentiful. it has a different texture, too.
hmmmm...yellow shea butter in some parts of africa is called african butter, meaning its not the same tree used to make real shea butter which is the baige kind so very confused about this. ive got yellow shea butter and you can tell its no where near the quality of the smooth baige kind. something different has been added. no shea butter should be that bright yellow.
I read that in some parts of Ghana the root from a plant called Cochlospermum tinctorium is added which gives additional yellow color to the shea butter.
@SuperhumanChichi Yes, ive just come accross a video on here which shows you the plant oils being added to the final process which turns it bright yellow. but then some say yellow shea is not shea butter, its african butter lol. so confusing. ill stick to the baige to be safe.
@kvocalist yea the yellow butter is from a different tree that grows in a wet habitat, as the white butter which is actually "Shea Butter" grow is the dessert along east african coast.
We have seen shea butter that has been dyed yellow. Most yellow shea butter is not dyed however. Some say that white shea butter has been processed and that nutrients are lost in the processing. Not all white shea butter has been processed however. For what it's worth, the yellow shea butter sells much more than the white shea butter for us. We do not have an opinion one way or the other. Our customers almost always say that both colors of shea butter are unbelievably effective.
@afseller I agree that both have similar effects...but it depends on what u mean by yellow shea butter? if its bright as the sun, then red palm oil has been added or its from a different tree...as far as white shea butter, i would not use it, i use the ivory kind which has a slight cream colour but the texture is soft n creamy. i hate to say but that cream shea butter is the best quality, however ive purchased terrible quality shea which is cream so it does depend.
Nice and to the point. Thanks for the info.
