It's really getting a bit annoying and tiresome to see some people here still dissing Obama when this is about Christmas, lighting up the tree. I am not a fan of Obama, and I don't get obsessed with ranting at him.Obsession is unhealthy.Just don't see the point of doing so, knowing it's not going to change anything for myself. Roosevelt had the media by the balls like every one else who could facilitate his rise to power. I hate it when people say "Happy Holidays". Why can't people say "Merry Christmas"? Why doesn't anyone say "Happy Holidays" on Easter, Valentines Day, Halloween, or any other Holiday except Christmas?

In addition to a (about) 7 foot tree (and I can let it get bigger if I want), which I use year after year-alive-tree, I have a small table tree, which is alive and reuseable year after year. Somehow a chopped down tree is gross. To me it is. A living potted plant is much more attractive. And if trained / trimmed correctly it will be quite an attractive christmas tree. When done put outside and you can enjoy it as a short tree YEAR ROUND. These plants will live over a century. Try it!!
A small Bonsai Christmas tree is too cute for words for holidays. So with a big living tree (7 foot) and a small bonsai table tree-they can also be decorated. When you trim the top the sides of the tree get stronger. It's surprisingly easy. I suppose you COULD make a tree as big as the one at the white house-you just need a big enough pot. You can buy a live small tree at a dollar store for a few bucks. They grow amazingly fast. All kinds of varieties. I love small trees. Call it a passion.
One more word about REUSABLE live trees in pots-please hose it down before putting it in the house. That's what I do. It cleans the tree. It only takes a few minutes to hose it down (obviously use a stream of water). Preferably put the tree near a lighted window. However, they do very well indoors too even without light since its short term. OR flourescent light (ordinary floro lights) is sufficient for a light source during the day if you want to keep the tree up over a month.
I don't understand why people use chopped down trees. All you have to do is plant one in a pot and let it grow. It will not get any bigger than the pot you give it. You do have to trim the tree once a year-big deal only takes a few minutes. Once it reaches the size you want you trim the crown and it will get more bushy, and you can trim those to make it look more like a christmas tree. And it's REUSABLE FOREVER. How long do trees live? Over a century? When done simply put back outside.

Politics aside and on the topic of Christmas traditions...a few steps away from the National Tree, right on the Ellipse, is a deep pit wherein many logs are deposited by forklift and burned for the entire month of December. This is the National Yule Log. It is a beautiful thing, to go to see this on a cold DC night and feel the warmth and light of the fire. Go see it if you can.

Actually the tree is always donated so the provider can ADVERTISE their tree was put in the white house. Though the celebration of Christmas is a pagan tradition since the ancient Roman times (the celebration of Cronus), I will sometimes put a tree up. BUT MY TREE is ALIVE. It's in a pot. About 7 or 8 feet high. It's been that size for about 10 years now. When you are done with it simply move it back outside and reuse the LIVE tree year after year after year. No mess-no fuss. Easy as pie!

actually he didnt change the number of justices. He did threaten to pack the courts, but there was no public support. and yes washington could of been elected his whole life but he wasnt. There was no rule on term limits until the 22nd amendment. The people loved FDR, and if you dont think so than read a history book he got elected 4 times. and alot of americans wanted to stay out of the war in europe, but Hitler honored the Tripartite pact, and declared war on america.

In addition to a (about) 7 foot tree (and I can let it get bigger if I want), which I use year after year-alive-tree, I have a small table tree, which is alive and reuseable year after year. Somehow a chopped down tree is gross. To me it is. A living potted plant is much more attractive. And if trained / trimmed correctly it will be quite an attractive christmas tree. When done put outside and you can enjoy it as a short tree YEAR ROUND. These plants will live over a century. Try it!!

A small Bonsai Christmas tree is too cute for words for holidays. So with a big living tree (7 foot) and a small bonsai table tree-they can also be decorated. When you trim the top the sides of the tree get stronger. It's surprisingly easy. I suppose you COULD make a tree as big as the one at the white house-you just need a big enough pot. You can buy a live small tree at a dollar store for a few bucks. They grow amazingly fast. All kinds of varieties. I love small trees. Call it a passion.

One more word about REUSABLE live trees in pots-please hose it down before putting it in the house. That's what I do. It cleans the tree. It only takes a few minutes to hose it down (obviously use a stream of water). Preferably put the tree near a lighted window. However, they do very well indoors too even without light since its short term. OR flourescent light (ordinary floro lights) is sufficient for a light source during the day if you want to keep the tree up over a month.

I don't understand why people use chopped down trees. All you have to do is plant one in a pot and let it grow. It will not get any bigger than the pot you give it. You do have to trim the tree once a year-big deal only takes a few minutes. Once it reaches the size you want you trim the crown and it will get more bushy, and you can trim those to make it look more like a christmas tree. And it's REUSABLE FOREVER. How long do trees live? Over a century? When done simply put back outside.

Politics aside and on the topic of Christmas traditions...a few steps away from the National Tree, right on the Ellipse, is a deep pit wherein many logs are deposited by forklift and burned for the entire month of December. This is the National Yule Log. It is a beautiful thing, to go to see this on a cold DC night and feel the warmth and light of the fire. Go see it if you can.

Actually the tree is always donated so the provider can ADVERTISE their tree was put in the white house. Though the celebration of Christmas is a pagan tradition since the ancient Roman times (the celebration of Cronus), I will sometimes put a tree up. BUT MY TREE is ALIVE. It's in a pot. About 7 or 8 feet high. It's been that size for about 10 years now. When you are done with it simply move it back outside and reuse the LIVE tree year after year after year. No mess-no fuss. Easy as pie!

No Farmboy, that is incorrect. Decorated trees, wreaths, wassail, Yule logs, etc - all these come from Northern European Germanic indigenous practices; you might call those people "heathens". They are all from pre-Christian Germanic traditions.

Or are you one of those Christians who think the world is only 6K years old, the King James Bible was written by the hand of Jesus himself and delivered whole to Christianity just as it is, and nothing existed before the Bible? Oh, and by the way, lest there is any confusion: Germanic heathens (for there are people continuing those traditions into our modern times) have a "Tree of Life" called Yggdrasil, with Nine Worlds that hang upon it. The Jews also have a Tree of Life upon which hang the Ten Sephiroth. I'm sure other cultures also have a Tree of Life. So don't think that the Tree is exclusively a Christmas thing. It's not. But it is beautiful that a tree IS included in Christmas celebrations.

We only shed 11,000 jobs in NOV... which is bad for those that jon the unemployed but ow many jobs did we shed last Nov when bush was in office? Since Obama has been in office the job shedding have decreased every month! while during bush jobs loses increased every month. Give it some time people.. You cant change this mess over night. Now Obama get on those banks and force them to refi those mortgages, cut the interest on those credit cards, & make jobs if the private sector wont!

How can the Private Sector Create jobs when the GOV wont let them? When a Business pays out more than its taking in(ie TAXES) , its not going to hire anyone,its time to fold. Instead the GOV is taking over GM to help Obamas SEIU buddies and its STILL losing money $1.2 Billion 3rd qtr this year!
