  • I just love this song and Lane is the sooo beautiful. XOXOXO LANE

  • The original song "Yellow Rose Of Texas" was about a bi racial woman. In those days a biracial person was called "high yellow". I have no idea why.

  • not bad...x

  • im a yellow rose of texas

  • i know this song you two sing this in a perfect voice S.m.i

  • a beautiful woman and a voice to match !

  • I've been looking for this song for years....the only one I could find was Johnny Horton's....Thank you for proving I'm not nuts

  • Like This Is My Year for Mexico. Chrystal Gayle made this song. Try it. Most lovely EVER;

  • The Original " Yellow Rose of Texas " was about a High Yellow Mulatto girl .

  • I have loved this song forever.

Originally conceived as a folksong in early Colonial Texas history, the first recorded copy of the "Yellow Rose of Texas" was handwritten on a piece of plain paper circa 1836. Historical records indicate this copy was most probably transcribed either shortly before or just after General Sam Houston lead his brigade of Texas loyalists against the army of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna at the Battle of San Jacinto on April 21, 1836.

  • @Spudd56 you left out a lot in your statement about the yellow rose of texas

  • @rosemarie443 Yes, I know, but they limit the length of a post here Rosemarie ;)

  • @Spudd56 a true yellow rose of texas was a mulatto. half negro and half white (just like prez Obama) some became expensive call girls at that time. but some of them really loved their man.

  • @Spudd56 Would you mind very much if I copy and paste this info when I share the song on my FB page??? I LOVE it and so appreciate the history of the song. It's one of my favorite songs!

  • This was not the first significant country video shot on film. It is the first Galloway ever in a music video. Those beasts are dangerous. They put them now in all our national parks. For me they look like Black Devils google about it. Some Hollanders enbraced it and ended up in a Hospital. LOL.

  • my most favorite my hubby dedicated it to me

  • To go use a 16 years old as baith to catch a drug dealer. Then the 17 years old shot 2 times at the 16 years old. And now she is forever in prison. A set-up like that is very illegal in complete Europe and Afrika too. In Russia they laugh all the day. But I love this song.

  • Take care of Bush. It comes from Belgium. We were lazy on building prisons. We sended criminals on a boat. Supposed they were gone forever. Continue to film your prisoners.

Show them to us EVERY day. We do not do that here. If people come out of prison they are better of without being televised. Only English and Americans do that. Excuse me.

  • well miss Lane is not a yellow rose.

  • This is really great video!! never know what lane looked like to I seen this video I must say she is very beautiful!!thank's for sharring it!!

  • This was the first significant country video shot on film. I know because I shot it for CMT in early 1984, using a 16mm Arriflex. It was directed by Dean Daniels. After transfer to 1" videotape, Dean and I co-edited it. It was shot mostly at Ray Pennington's ranch just outside Hendersonville, TN. My fondest memory from the shoot was the bar scene because the stumbling "drunk" (his road manager) actually hit Johnny in the eye, giving him a big shiner. That's why you shoot scenes like that last.

  • Great song Y'all. Loved it!

  • Those aren't the type of mountains found in the Lone Star state. Looks more like North Carolina, than Texas.

  • "She can make a man a king...." Wow. I want a woman like that! =)

  • @RaySingh87

Good luck..They are all gone now...We had them. But they all bought into the new women thing. Mrs Brody is still just a beautiful as always.

God bless from the Great State of TEXAS....

  • I watch this video all the time its like the most awesome video ever. Just wanted a better ending where they stay together. I say reshoot the video and stick together this time. LOL never has there been a better song or better couple to sing that song.

  • This is still our favorite song!

  • Bob Wills sang it way back when and if I remember correctly it had fiddle music in it-Teaxas swing.

  • love of a good woman make even the worste man feel like a king

  • love them singing together ...lynne

  • rofl any one got a bucket....

  • you have an amazing voice and are as beautiful as ever.

  • GOD BLESS TEXAS!!!

  • Maybe this very lovely song and video goes simply about the USA and how the world feels about it and all.

  • The Yellow Rose of Texas 1983-84 Cybil Sheppard and David Soul

  • I was looking for a real good Yellow Rose. So thanks a lot Lane. Wonderfull. Still I wonder about pick-up trucks. In Europe you barely see that. Things will be stolen out of it even hay.

  • do any of you know what the yellow rose of texas was?

  • @rosemarie443 Yes, Yellow was a term given to American's of mixed race in early days. Most common was Mulattos. Rose was a common women's name of the day. Now at the battle of San Jacinto Sam Houston defeated Santa Anna. It seems that a Mulatto women named Rose kept Santa Anna in his tent until it was too late for him to do anything. Resulting in his defeat. Hence she was forever known as the "YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS "

  • @civilwardoc1

Her name was Emily Morgan. She was a "high yellow" Negress. Think the color of a Kraft brown paper bag.

  • Miss Brody, My husband met you while playing drums for Mr. Van Dyke. He says you were very talented and very humble. Wonderful voice:)

  • Thank you for great comments! i was never married to johnny , we are like brother and sister. I performed it with him on "Country Family reunion" recently. i am a writer of the lyrics. It's the first video recorded on film. it was at Pennington"s ranch in Nashville. I have been vegan for many years now and the coat was used to demonstrate fur belongs on animals not humans. It was snubbed by the CMA the year it went number one for political reasons. But you the people have made it last! xo Lane

  • @lanebrodyfanclub do vegans believe that its wrong to ride horses?, I know I wouldn't like a man riding on back all day

  • I just met Lane on Linkedin and she is a very beautiful woman. Love goes out to you Lane Brody.

  • @dandebonaire Same here. Still looking too.

  • my little girl loves this song i have to play it over and over but that is okay it is one of the best

  • You know, I love this song! I always have. I'm not sure that most people actually know what a yellow rose is though. You should google the song and check out the Wikipedia answer. there is a fascinating read about a mulatto girl named Emily West. Yes, a yellow rose is a girl with black ancestry.

  • @MackenzieMichael the first song yellow rose of Texas was written during the civil war by a black soljr fighting for Texas in Tenn. It was written to and for his girl back home..lol Texas history 101

  • Hey Harleysami did you forget your high school sweetheart and I saved your life in Iraq awesome story that needs to be told and you flew back into is arms when my were wide open for you. I took the bullet for you I miss you

  • gim al a drink on me areckin ... then back em up !

  • Cracking Song !!

  • does anyone remember the show this was the theme to???

  • @tranurse this was the theme to the NBC TV Series with Cybil Shepard. The video was filmed with Johnny and Lane as the song became a number one hit in Billboard and the most played song of the year in country.

  • @lanebrodyfanclub i remembered the show. it wasn't on for very long. i was 12 or so when it came on. friday nights i think. my mom liked it.

  • @lanebrodyfanclub This was the theme song from the motion picture"The fastest Gun Alive" starring Glen Ford. can't remember who the actress was but it was a Movie I will always remember.

  • @tranurse

The soundtrack to the TV miniseries James A. Michener's Texas dates a version of the song to June 2, 1933 and co-credits both the authorship and performance thereof to Gene Autry and Jimmy Long. However, Don George reworked the original version of the song, which Mitch Miller made into a popular recording in 1955

  • @tranurse The Yellow Rose of Texas (1944) Roy Rogers Film of the same name.

  • @SnowflakeSparkles26 I think they did video 5 or well crap about 10 years ago looking at her but he just never bseems to age so who knows lololol

  • nice

  • I wonder where these lyrics came from? They are completely different from the early version by Mitch Miller, which was probably closer to the original Civil War folk song.

    Perhaps Johnny created these lyrics?
