I heard this piece tonight performed by the LA Chorale in the presence of the composer. The 1st half of the program was so so (moderately amusing) BUT THIS! OMG! what heavenly music and what a brilliant rewriting of the traditional RC requiem and the Dies Irae coup de chapeau I WAS BLOWN AWAY
Thank you so much for posting this wonderful performance of this magnificent piece. Your visuals were stunning as well. I think this will be my new favorite "play in the background while you work" piece...that is, if I can stop being mesmerized long enough to get any work done. :-) It's unbelievably moving and very comforting. Thank you!
9:54,....THE END. Almost leaves a tear in my eye. The message behind this piece reminds me that inspite of all the bad things that has happened in our World (The Holocaust, 9/11, etc) GOOD truly does exist in our world and shall prevail in the end.
the brilliance lay also in the theology of this piece. Lauridsen rewrote the punishing Dies Irae to the shape of a loving God who does not condemn but opens the doors of eternal life to those who believe............ tu devicto mortis aculeo aperuisti credentibus regna coelorum (I think that REGNA should be an accusitive of Direct Object but that would be pedantic :) )
@TJFNYC212 actually, lauridsen did not write a dies irae in the lux aeterna. that part u just quoted "tu devicto mortis aculeo" is part of the 2nd movement titled "in te domine, speravi" and is taken from the te deum and beatus vir. The dies irae doesn't even have those words u just quoted. just fyi.
@bimmerboy87 I think I was unclear in what I meant to say. I did not mean that he literally rewrote the Dies Irae. What I meant is that he rewrote the theology of the Requiem in general. His vision of God is not one of judgement punish and fire and brimstone rather one of love to whom all men are called. sorry if I was unclear.
Mangott, Bless You for uploading this Magnificent Piece. This final movement of the Lux Aeterna invokes such Heavenly Splendor and Musical Exuberance. A captivating piece of Choral Work from start to finish,
@MrPiano90 Thanks for the upload. My favorite movement of my favorite recording. Music need not be complex to be beautiful. This is a fine example of minimalism with devastating results. Absolutely sublime!
The performance by the LAMC has been my traditional favorite, so thank you for uploading it. I really want to congratulate you on the images for the three parts. Extraordinary! Very well done.
Thank you Mangott, for uploading this extraordinary music and your video. Beautiful...really well done on the visuals.

Just arranged this entire last movement for piano solo. Amazingly, it still works quite effectively.
