  • There was a major who was head of a special forces base that was over-run by the VC and NVA, he managed to escape with a few others. When asked by a reporter what the 'communist' fighters were like, he said: "the best and toughest soldiers in the world, if only I had 100 of them under my command."

  • But you saw them alive. And that was a good thing.

  • Gary Owen Sir!!

  • @lordconan1976 I have no doubt that you are one of the most ignorant, inconsiderate, and cold hearted, not to mentioned spelling impaired individuals I have ever seen on YouTube. You think that just because you can criticize people that it makes you an expert, I aspire to be an Officer in the US Army, now I know that in the field and heat of combat, you don't get a timeout to talk to the coach, it's think and do, divided by quarter of think.

T&D/(T/4) as I'd like to think. Please. Stop your si

  • i never served in any armed forces nor in any war ,watching a movie like "We were Soldiers" gives me a glimps on what really happend, which i possibly never will grasp, let alone ever can imagine, reagardless,i have a greatest respect and honor for those serving and willing to put their lifes on the line, to protect my life and well being, i salute you Sir and thank you very much for your service

  • This is one of , if not the best fil,m ever on VN. I was 12 yo when i heard of this battle . These are the bravest americans . While bitch and fight each other we should remember what they did here . Our silly shit dishonors these brave

    heroes !

  • Outstanding video and God Bless all of our troops who were in Vietnam!

  • A-2 rifle with A-1 handguards @ 1:19

  • Continuing to answer the stupid comments- the assault I personally led was a two company coordinated assault ordered by the battalion commander, to recover a platoon from B Co (I commanded A Co) that had been cut off. The detailsare in General Moore's book.

  • @rnadal717 - Colonel, thank you for posting on here, sir. As I posted earlier, it was an honor to portray you on this show and if you'd like me to remove the negative comments, I'd be happy to. You don't need to explain yourself to anyone, I read the book, you're a true hero.

  • @rnadal717 - colonel Nadal, i my self am a combat vet, having served in Desert Storm. as one soldier to another sir i salute you for trying to get to sgt Savage and his cut off platoon, i tell every one interested in seeing the real Vietnam war, read Gen Moore's book We were soldiers, as well as WO1 Robert Mason's book "Chickenhawk" these books tell it like it was. we who have been to war, do fight for god or country or any political reasons, we fight for the men beside us. welcome home sir

  • @rnadal717 Well done Colonel. A fights a fight and you and your men did all that was humanly possible.

  • @rnadal717 I thank you and all of Alpha Company for their fine service.

  • My name is Ramon Nadal, Col. US Army retired, AKA Tony Nadal. At this late date, I have discovered this web site that makes references to me. First, let me thank all of you who said nice things about me. My family is from Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, but I was born at Fort Benning , GA as my Dad was an Army officer. Now, for the dumb ass that called me a war criminal--He is truly ignorant and should read, the book, "WE Were Soldiers Once and Young.

  • @rnadal717 Garry Owen Sir!

  • @rnadal717

Not a war criminal personally, just as a WW2 German soldier wasn't, but the masterminds of the Vietnam war certainly were, you can't hide from that America, that's fact. It doesn't make you better or worse than most of the rest of us, it's just fact, and that won't change.

  • Comment removed

  • @redcatcher2cav

What does that even mean? Typical idiotic defensiveness on your part. I said that it doesn't make the US any worse than the rest of us, as all the European powers are guilty of this kind of thing. It's a sign of maturity to understand and accept your faults, you should take note.

  • @manfred898 ok,,I see your point, I am sorry for my commet., I have removed it.

  • @redcatcher2cav

    Thanks for that :)

  • @outskool100 lol that's not what History say's

  • what's the name of this documentry? i want to get full one

  • @xiangyu1986 - The show is called Fight or Die, it was shown on the Discovery Channel a couple of times. Not sure when they'll show it again or when it'll be available on DVD.

  • When they were broke contact With the PAVN, Nadal called in artillery firing White Phosphorous. THAT SHIT WILL MESS YOU UP!

  • @HeroScaper95 I believe the call requested smoke, but the arty guys didn't have it, so either the call switched or arty just sent in the WP, which was on hand. Regardless, Nadal's actions and demeanor were a tremendous influence which contributed toward achieving the battle objectives.

  • actually he is a war criminal...he rushed a division of vietkong troops with a platoon.....that was stupid..got half his platoon killed in 5 mins

  • @lordconan1976 really? a war criminal? i didnt know that by trying to save a cut-off element of friendlies was a crime? and viet cong? i didnt see or hear of anyone in black pajamas there. next time before opening your mouth, know what your talking about and think, bacause I bet the christ that you ask anyone about Tony Nadal that fought in LZ-X Ray, that man was sure as hell no fucking war criminal, you dumbass

  • @flagsathalfstaff i have no doubt i know more about the Vietnam war and any other type of military conflict than you as well as your average youtuber.....ok maybe i should change some things around......he was a dumbass for rushing to the trapped platoons aid with out consorying his officers, so he should be court marshaled, and given a dishonorable discharge. As far as the vietcong my bad..the NVA regiment...truthfully i wish the americans would have had there severd heads sent home in a box .

  • @lordconan1976 He was trying to rescue a cut off squad of men.In war you do what you have to.Dont bash Soldiers unless you have been there and seen it for yourself.

  • @lordconan1976 Apparently, you seem to know nothing about any military conflict or the Vietnam War for that matter. 3 people just countered your unintelligent comments including the man who was there himself. If I were you, I'd shut the fuck up, be ashamed of myself and find something else to do with my failure of a life and intelligence. You just made a complete fool of yourself.

  • He was a very brave man and good leader. He was also damn lucky to survive. So many died. The NVA targetted leaders, radio operators and medics.

  • A great hero, Captain Tony Nadal. I understand he retired a Colonel. Is he or his ancestors by any chance from Puerto Rico? There are Nadals in Mayaguez and in San Juan.

  • Hooah!!!! Much respect, Mr. Nadal.

  • thats my step grandpa, tony nadal

  • who is the guy talking at 1.06?

  • Bill Beck

  • thanks

  • beautifull
