  • All them poor kids now late 50's and 60's, needing chiropractors because of that crazy dancing.

  • Thanks to Merrit66 who was fantastically helpful and got me the lyrics from Ray McCall himself, I have now sent them on to blacflag to correct what I sent him last time. And yes CopsAreC00L, you were right!! :)

Thank you Ray and Merrit66!! yaaaaaaaaaay for the internet!

  • @SilvaMak hahha Atleast we know what it says now!

  • Also the chorus might be like this.

" Its all just happening in a dream,

It can't really, be as weird as it seems"

    but you be the judge...

  • @CopsAreC00L

The last one sounds like it could be that but the other ones don't sound so much like that. But yeah, it could be. Maybe the last one is different. Hard song to transcribe coz it is all so fast. If anyone else knows or has suggestions for the lyrics then maybe eventually we will get the true version! :)

  • Stop And Listen - The Shag [Milwaukee, Wisconsin] - 1967 - "Primitive garage at it's BEST." - Trash Box Set : Wild Psychotic Garage Punk!!! (Disc 1) (Hit)-1996.

  • Best song ever!

  • My name is Sean McCall and my father, Ray McCall is author and singer (he plays the lead guitar, too) of this song. He would be so stoked to see there are still The Shag fans out there. Ray is now a professor at CU (Boulder). Thanks to all of you for keeping 60's alive! Blacflag, you rule...

    Aloha from Hawaii.

  • @merit66 Hey , Sean , this is a great , great song. I don't own a copy , but , I've heard it in passing. I think CU is where Dave Aguilar from The Chocolate Watchband used to be a Professor of Astronomy , but it may have been University of Colorodo.

    Cheers , John.

  • @merit66

I just found a copy of the single autographed by the whole band. Merry Christmas to ME!

Your dad signed right under the "...listen" on the label. Pretty boss. Wish him well! Great solo! One of the greatest non-Beatles Capitol singles EVER!

  • I like that guitar sound at the intro.

  • Alright, another good find!!! Good on you, Blacflag!!

She don't call too loud, but she calls, ooh, nice and plain.

Stop and listen, before you make a start.

Stop and listen, before you make a start.

Because if you fall in love, it may break your heart.

I love my baby, I'll tell the world I do.

  • Love this snotty fuzz gem. Great beat. Thanks for the post.

  • Long ago I knew Ray. He married and divorced my cousin. The Shag were a lot of fun to listen to live in the basement club, O'Brads. I have the Stop and Listen 45 on my 1957 Seeburg Jukebox and listen to it often. Ir was a welcome surprise to find the Shag on Youtube.

  • anyone know where i can find the lyrics? a google search didnt find anything and some parts of the song are kinda hard to make out.

  • hi,guy,

you might try searching under the writer, ray mccall, or the flip side track, melissa. capitol records. actually, we (ray) also wrote 'summer in the city' about milwaukee. did you ever wonder about the incongruity of the spoonful doing that song? it's a long story.

all the best and thanks for your interest in what was a pretty amazing group at the time,

    liam

  • Hi maddfactor!

Just read your post for track 'Stop and Listen' by The Shag. I've been looking for the lyrics too.

But my problem is that I can't make out most of the lyrics.

Could you e-mail me what you have made out?

    Thanx,

    Seva

  • listen to the dwarves's cover of this it might help

  • I love this song!

  • oops...sorry for the repeat comment! I thought it go through the first time. This Shag tune sounds great!

  • Wow...I never realized how much Beau Bridges resembled pre-1965 Carl Wilson of the "Beach Boys!"

  • i can see where your coming from

  • WOW...I never realized how much Beau Bridges resembled pre-1965 Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys!

  • The film is from "Village Of The Giants" starring Beau Bridges and Tommy Kirk.....1968

  • yeah, the footage is the intro, i added the song though, they were originally dancing to a beau brummels track.

  • Your song works better! Great cut! The movie is a lot of fun to watch (a young Ron Howard plays a scientist who invents a potion that produces a huge duck)! For some reason this movie did not win the Oscar® that year.....

    Thanks blacflag!

  • killer anti-drug track!
