I rode the BMT line in Astoria in 1950's and 60's when it was the Brighton Beach Local with BMT Standards and D type Tri-plex cars. They got new R27 cars in 1960 with Olive Green Paint, Pink plastic seats and destination signs that lit up green. Those were the first BMT cars with Letters . The Brighton local became the QT weekdays and QB on weekends. The West End Exp ran rush hours to Astoria and became the T.
the red birds represented all of NYC. the new subway cars they have today sucks big time. they would look good in any other city like chicago or maybe boston but the older subways is what represented NYC. if it was up to me, i'd bring back all the graffiti trains.
i agree with the comment that AMERICANRESOLVE left. the newer trains are garbage and probably should be used as garbage trains instead of passenger trains. the newer trains dont look right for new york city. if it was up to me, i'd bring back the redbirds and the graffiti trains.

At the very end of this slip, you'll see a pale red stub of trestle, this is a remnant of the second avenue elevated that switched off to cross the 59th st bridge. Also untill 1950, trolleys crossed that bridge aswell, there are still elevator shafts at midpoint down to what was then called "Welfare Island" -now Roosevelt. Today those side roads are for vehicular traffic and bicycles.
With growth of L.I.C. if the second ave el existed today,I'am sure alot of NY'ers would find it very useful.
Thank god i live in london... our tube is so much better

AmericanResolve2 4 years ago 4
Actually, the first 35 seconds is the N train, and then it switches to the 7.
