one aspect of poker that not enough people consider is that if i'm getting even pot odds to call something, I should only call if I consider myself to be in a table that is, collectively, better than me, and I should fold if I think I'm better than whom I'll be playing with. 50,000 chips in my stack is worth more than 50,000 chips in someone else's because, like all poker players, i think im the shit and I wouldn't be playing if i didn't.
If you have a set, even against two people who have open-ended straight draw AND flush draw, you're still 3:2 favorite. And you're getting better than 2:1 odds to call. If you bust out, then fuck it, you got no luck, this tournament is not for you. If you win, you go deep. I rather bust early than keeping myself hanging for survival. Gus Hansen got eliminated even with flopped straight because someone with a set paired the board on turn or river. Gus doesn't give a shit.

Unless you have a read that someone might have a higher set, which only occurs 1% of the time, you NEVER fold a set, especially when you're ahead and there's no straight/flush possibilities. If you want to make it deep in the tournament, you have to take these chances. Put your money in when you have the best of it.

if you know how phillips play you wouldn't say that. Phillips rarely goes on a coin flip. He never put at risk his whole stack in the whole tournament. This year, he folded a set on the flop because there raises before his turn and straight and flush draws, so he knew he had the odds but he didn't want to risk his whole stack.

i dont think he will succeed in high stakes poker,,,,and btw he is not a great for television. I wish elky grosspelier was on high stakes poker, he is great for TV, he is extremely aggresive.
