Just because he's a billionaire, doesn't mean he can just take the record for the modern day technology deep sea diving. That record was set in 1960 by Don Walsh and James Picquard with the Bathyscaphe Trieste when they dived to the Challenger Deep 10,911 meters in the Mariana Trench. They are the true heroes ;)
That thing will never go deeper than a few hundred feet, just look at the canopy, all submersibles have very small windows because if they were any larger, the structure will be comprimised.
Some coments here are really funny, looks like all are experts. Whit all the money and techology they have you really think his sub is something cheap made from wood or what that it would be squezed? I mean really, check the animals living there and how they are made, if they thought something similar you dont need tons of steel to keep you safe. I would say go Richard, explore our oceans!
Uhh.. what kind of material is that sub's chassis made out of? Is it unobtainium from Avatar? Seriously. There's a reason we haven't explored that far down the Mariana Trench.. and it's not because of money. If I were him, I'd send a remote controlled one down first. Taking bets it squishes to 1/10 its size.
If anybody believes that this sub of his would survive to 36k depths, I've got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. I'd be shocked if that thing would even survive to 20k depths.
Ah, to be a billionaire & able to whiz money on any whim or fancy. It's a shame ass brains like this won't invest money in America. But I guess you can't blame these rich ass brains. They know if they invest in America's school systems, punks like Dumbobama, Dumboduncan, & the Bush&Dick Republican TeaBagging Bonerheads would steal it & put it in their offshore Cayman bank accounts. So Branson, build your toys for your rich TopClass American buds. You guys get to benefit off the backs of the poor!
@IronicallyVague well it's a sub, let's see if it will survive the dept, or will the dept squish it like a tin can with its massive psi. Well Branson is kind of crazy so..
@IronicallyVague could be. I am curious about the global coordinates of his voyage, do u know the global coordinates of where he will be skimming around?
TRYING TO Do Disney one better with its 1960s submarine ride where the craft never gets /goes deeper then 26 inches and the Florida Glass bottom boat Now he want to have tourist to pay for three hour tour at the near bottom of the sea .
Is the glass over the cockpit good enough to withstand deepsea pressure? Every other sub i've seen has tiny little windows because anything larger will shatter. I wonder who will get to go deeper, branson or the backup pilot?
@KungFuTroll Branson has pledged to commit $3 billion, all profits from his travel firms over the next ten years, to the reduction of global warming. He has previously donated to educational charities in Africa. Branson started his first charity, “Student Valley Centre”, when he was only 17. Richard is Patron of the International Rescue Corps. It goes on and on and on... Now, what have YOU done to feed the poor good sir?
@KungFuTroll He should use that money to lobby for small business and the middle class in america and other industrialized nations. The shear number of small businesses he could help start would surely give charity an amount that would far exceed anything he could match. In essence "feeding the poor". It's a step in the right direction I think.
I like the fact that there was a Advert playing with Richard Branson before this video came up.

I mean the first giant squid he runs in to, what then?

It's impossible.
The pressure is unsafe for human beings, regardless of the constructed suit.
Only specially designed submarines can safely go to those depths.
