Just because he's a billionaire, doesn't mean he can just take the record for the modern day technology deep sea diving. That record was set in 1960 by Don Walsh and James Picquard with the Bathyscaphe Trieste when they dived to the Challenger Deep 10,911 meters in the Mariana Trench. They are the true heroes ;)

That thing will never go deeper than a few hundred feet, just look at the canopy, all submersibles have very small windows because if they were any larger, the structure will be comprimised.

Some coments here are really funny, looks like all are experts. Whit all the money and techology they have you really think his sub is something cheap made from wood or what that it would be squezed? I mean really, check the animals living there and how they are made, if they thought something similar you dont need tons of steel to keep you safe. I would say go Richard, explore our oceans!

Is the glass over the cockpit good enough to withstand deepsea pressure? Every other sub i've seen has tiny little windows because anything larger will shatter. I wonder who will get to go deeper, branson or the backup pilot?

@KungFuTroll He should use that money to lobby for small business and the middle class in america and other industrialized nations. The shear number of small businesses he could help start would surely give charity an amount that would far exceed anything he could match. In essence "feeding the poor". It's a step in the right direction I think.
