@witness623 how are you gonna try and tell him to elevate his mind..your as closed mind and ignorant as the rest of the internet world..
its just his rendition of one of the greatest song writers of all time..he may not be as soulful as bob marley but his guitar solos are a combo of technique and feeling. im honored to have heard this, im sure bob would be proud too
@Mreyes90 so I am ignorant because I did not feel his cover? You are, is actually you're not your. But thanks for YOUR generalized opinion based on my preferences. Proceed with YOUR life.
@witness623 stop stirring shit up, no one wants to listen to your opinion. and no one agrees with it, you said what you wanted, you seen people disagree with it. now stop talking.
@Zumilas If I didn't get emails with irrelevant usernames responding DIRECTLY TO ME, I wouldn't feel the need to respond. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and if everyone had the same opinion, well...that's speaks for itself. Again, proceed with your life and/or do not respond to me. It's that simple.
One great thing about Eric is .......he gives credit to the great BOB MARLEY at the beginning of the song! He is one of those who keeps his music to the basics!
Clapton is a superlative musician; I have never enjoyed his voice, specifically I have always felt that his voice merely compliments all other facets of his considerable genius. This performance is flawless by all and sundry; Marley undoubtedly watched from above with considerable delight. Special plaudits must surely go to Phil Collins, who I feel did as fine a job as Clapton. Thank you kindly :-)
Nice guitar weeping Mr. Eric Clapton. I wish I could watch Guitar Boogie jamming played by the three great guitarist, Clapton, Beck, and Page, jammed together?
Oh my God!!! I was there, somewhere in the crowd, toward the cente4r of the stage about 7 or 8 rows back! I lived in Lausanne Switzerland at the time, and spent a few days in Montreaux at the Jazz Festival. When Robert Cray came out for the encore, the crowd went nuts! It was one of the best concerts I ever saw. Phil Collins came out from behind the drum kit to sing "In the Air Tonight", too! Thank you for posting this video. It brings back great memories!!
lol, I reckon it was Phil himself in the gorilla suit judging by the way he started that intro! (to everyone who doesn't have Cadbury's chocolates in their country, i was talking about an ad.)
I'm Fran Raya a female singer/songwriter from the UK. I supported Eric Clapton on one of his Scandinavian tours with a set of my own songs. His band were Gary Brooker, Albert Lee, Chris Stainton, Dave Markee and Henry Spinetti. It was the highlight of my career and this song brings it all back. So proud to have toured with him.
80's drum sound? This was the 80's? I could not disagree with you more about the criticism of his playing and his sound. This is so excellent because of the spark that Phil is giving the band by playing much more loose then he normally does. He is playing more off the cuff and taking some more chances bringing the level of musicianship up a notch. The best version of this song I have heard. Not every version of this song has to sound like the band is smoking pot.
You're right, I mean why couldn't he sound more like... See I don't know what to put there, you have an idea? Sorry I don't mean to be rude, I just don't see the point in debating a drummers stile. Works for some, it doesn't for others. One thing's for sure, he is a legend and a legend he will remain.
I agree I think he's a great drummer. Who cares about this 80s sound. Have you seen his drumming during In The Air Tonight from this concert. He's goes nuts its awesome
yes, there where some prototypes with 21, and the color of the first guitar was Charcoal gray, after came seven-up green and ferrari red, the black color came in 1991, kept the Fender lace sensor pickups until 2001, then changed to vintage noiseless pickups. a great guitar

I believe that this solo is most appropriate for "...Sheriff". It expresses the characters sense of urgency pristinely. Especially the repetitive chords at the end. They resemble a siren or alarms going off, if you would. This sheriff is probably a crooked bastard who shot the deputy himself. Clapton's solo was great. Phil was trying to bring a little more to to the table with some more playing of the cuff then by rehearsal (very unusual for him) sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't but he is taking more chances breaking out of the pocket more. Very interesting footage.
one thing i love about clapton is that you will probably not ever here one of his solos (maybe except for his acoustic ones) exactly the same. they are very impromptu

I believe that this solo is most appropriate for "...Sheriff". It expresses the characters sense of urgency pristinely. Especially the repetitive chords at the end. They resemble a siren or alarms going off, if you would. This sheriff is probably a crooked bastard who shot the deputy himself. He owns the town so he's going to blame it on John Doe, the teller of the story. Hence, John Doe's sence of urgency.
