yes you're right, i picked the wrong adjective to describe it, but you could almost dance to it! whatever happened to sadcore?! i still prefer the original version
I know how you feel! There are some of his songs that he's sped up live recently that I prefer in their slow and melancholy fuzzy-album state. That said, a concert full of slow and melancholy songs might not make for a ~fun~ concert, you know? :P
It's very possible, but also keep in mind that this chord progression is extremely common. Sam Beam takes it to another level, but nonetheless, common.
this is the chillest song i've ever heard.... i'm not lying the first time i heard this song i was in the shower and i found myself just standing there doing nothing.
No way! You have no god-damned idea how jealous I am of you.
I'm just not sure which version I prefer more. I'm leaning to the studio ever so slightly though. I'm finding that Just sam and his guitar has a more intimate feel with this song but for other songs I've a different opinion.
me too, definitely, about liking the studio version slightly more. without sounding too much like an obsessive fan, have you heard the version of it from the amstel festival a couple years ago? that is my definite favorite -- it's very much just sam and his guitar, and i totally agree with you that the atmosphere suits a certain number of his songs.
i just discovered this by chance. i'm not a big fan of iron and wine but i absolutely love this song (the live version of it). i really like jesse lacey's version as well. the original has yet to grow on me.
at first i wasn't a huge fan of the electric/full band arrangements, but i've really come to like them a lot. especially this song - it's just heavenly.
thanks for posting, you got a great spot by the stage
This song is sooo sad cause its the only song my friend listens to because his mom passed away a few years ago :(

I think it's faster, yeah, but I wouldn't say it's joyful. To me, there's no way this song could be classified as joyful, haha.
To each their own, though :] I'm generally a fan of his more low key style, but his jazzed up stuff is really growing on me.

i agree, unless it's a small gig in a bar

is this excellent song somehow a response to Tori Amos' 'Playboy Mummy' - same/similar chords, and lyrics almost from the child's perspective? ?
Ragozine77 2 years ago
playboy mummy is from the mum's point of view not the child's though : )
both great songs anyway, love 90's tori :)

i think i failed at not sounding obsessive :P

Haha. I don't know why you imply that's a bad thing.
And no I haven't actually. Have a recording by any chance?
