  • Thanxs for the Vid:) I love this steel and have it in my Sebenza 21. I saw your BarkRiver Custom video and the problem with the thin edge and the chips. With this steel this wouldn´t happend. What´s the name of this knive? It looks like a exellent bushcrafter too!

  • @zwencologne thanks for watching bro. This is a custom knive, called the Thrive. Kyley Harris is the maker n this S35VN steel version is part of his first and very limited run...if memory serves me right. Yes...excellent bushcrafter too...tried it the other day when fishing....gonna be putting this knife up on sale though...raising funds to try others...great toughness with this steel.

  • Why did you decide to use a low grit finish for that knife? What type of cutting do you do?

  • @CliffStamp bones, gills, fins, scales, skin, flesh, tendons, lines/cords/ropes, vines, and maybe some branches. batoning in survival.

  • @knivesfishwild From that scope of work you may want to try a combination edge where you leave part of the blade with a low grit finish because while it will work well slicing ropes it will not work well cutting through bones or cutting woods.

Note you can also control which way the knife cuts aggressively by changing the angle of the stone to the blade as the teeth form at that angle so you can make it more aggressive on a slice towards you or away from you.

  • @knivesfishwild S35VN is an interesting choice to leave with a rough finish as it is in general a fairly coarse steel compared to something like O1 so it has an innate level of aggression due to the high carbide volume (relative of course). Were you having issues with the cutting ability at a high grit finish compared to other similar knives in different steels?

  • @CliffStamp I just wanted to try something toothier for a change...to see if I get a longer lasting practical edge on this knife....that has a bite to it, after watching jdavis' vid. I used to have a clean edge on this knife, so I wanted to compare. S35VN of mine actually takes a very clean finish, hardly any noticeable difference from O1 imo. The clean S35 dulled a little too quick on my fine edge in some cutting, though restores very fast. Will see how it goes bro.

  • @knivesfishwild Did you notice it dull faster than O1 at the same fine edge finish?

  • I got the Fallknaven stone after seeing your vids, and I wondered if you use it dry or wet?

  • @traderjoes have only used it dry brother. I hope yours had better QC than mine...fucked up, but works, just like Stripymccatpuss, lmao

  • @knivesandstuff What do you think about polished edges on S35? For me they just had zero bite. Took me MUCH more work to cut with a polished edge vs toothy.

  • @jdavis882 he doesn't have an S35 no mo bro....lol.....his last tests were all documented in his last S35VN Thrive test vids...somewhere among snuff vids...lol

  • @knivesfishwild LOL@snuff vids

  • @stripymccatpuss chicken snuff to be exact...lmao

  • @knivesfishwild Pervert....

  • Been wondering where you were at! Let me know how it works out for you in use. :)

  • @jdavis882 hehe...sure bro ;)

  • Hey Ben. I like the way the toothy edge cuts anyway. Thats a nice knife

  • @johnwoodz1220 u r too kind John :) thanks

  • Can you tell me why your Thrive always looks slightly bigger than cKc Thrives in other vids I've seen? Its not the 5" Thrive or the bush master, but yours always look about 0.25" bigger... I love the look of this one btw ;)

  • @madhatterjc1 my hands are small, so it makes the knife look bigger :) Thanks bro :)

  • lol.. answered.

  • @knivesandstuff haha...

  • is this based on the test by JDavis?
