It's in the other way: ancien English took many ancien French's words, and then, they passed with the language to America. English language takes word from many languages without problem. That's not the same situation in Spanish or French, my native and foreign language number 1.
actuallly, some words come directly from foreign language (new technology and concept for example). French is a greek/latin language, wich explain the similarity with italian, spanish ect. English comes from german (check the grammar) but many words come are used by both language, in the same meaning...or not lol
example : week end : could be used in french and english.
example 2 : rendez-vous : could be used in english and french.
