When this was released during 1974, I thought it very good, but not as deep and meaningful as either Blue or FTR. I now find myself listening to C & S more. Everyone is entitled to their own interpretations, but to me Blue and FTR have a darker tone. She honestly bares her sole, and you can feel the loneliness and hurt. C& S shows some cynicism, and Joni's lyrics have never been matched by anyone not born in Liverpool. Yet, the overall tone leaves me feeling more hopeful and upbeat.
Joni's best depends on what mood you're in."Hejira", "For the Roses" always. "Court and Spark" her most popular, there's not a bad song on it. Of her later work, "Turbulent Indigo" is a gem. "Hissing of Summer Lawns" is gorgeous. "Wild Things Run Fast" was typically underrated and gets better over time. "Dog Eat Dog" and "Chalk Mark in a Rainstorm" probably for people who understand her music. "Shine" has some fine songs. We can only hope she will record again.
absolutely breathtaking how it goes from song to song. one of the top LP's of alltime. my mind goes back to 1974...with my headphones on reading the liner notes..learning the words....good times....the piano in "The Same Situation"...a pretty girl in your bathroom checkin out her sex appeal....wow.
If I were stranded on a deserted island, Court and Spark would be one of my necessities (the others being a cd player and enough batteries to last until my rescue)...
My dog always comes close to the music when I play Joni out in the garden...PEACE..

Astonishing. Every human being should be forced to sit down and listen to at least three of Joni's albums; the world would be a better place.

'caught in my struggle for higher achievements, and my search for love that don't seem to cease.' what heartwrenching lyrics.

Such an amazing album...I simply close my eyes and listen to Joni's familiar voice and I'm transported back in time.....
