Whether you use the omaplata or not I highly suggest experimenting with that knee across the hips style of half guard. It lets you pin your opponents hips in place, and controlling the hips is jiujitsu 101!

Yes, right forearm across his jaw to create some space for a hip escape out to the right side. Then the right knee in across the hip to maintain proper distance.

What a great technique. I always go to underhook in HG to go to the back. Everyone expects that from me now so that will be my setup for this move.
