  • I like this interpretation the best.

  • Lovely video and song, mikeyousofine. Thank you, Ohevin, for sharing this beauty with me.

    Maureen

  • mikeyousofine, you did an excellent job creating this video. The scenery is beautiful and the music is beautiful, too. Thank you, Ohevin, for sharing this beauty with me. <3 Maureen

  • Wonderful scenery and music! Thank you for sharing this with me, Ohevin. And thank you,

mikeyousofine, for posting this lovely video! I did not like the movie "The Deer Hunter" but I love the song "Cavatina".

  • Why cant we just escape ..

  • goog song this ! I'am trying to learn it on guitar... :)

  • Música maravilhosa !!!

  • I'm Vietnamese. I am confused with the movie "The Deer Hunter", because I'm a Vietnamese. But I love this song. Actually, I have once wished that the song "Cavatina" has no concern with the movie. But Unfortunately.........

  • @phankhachuyanh I understand your confusion, but I think that the music is good enough to stand by itself.

  • @phankhachuyanh Very nice job, but I am confused about what confuses you. Is it the discrepancy between the film's violence and the tranquility of Cavatina? The connection I make for this music is the poignancy of the camaraderie and innocence with which the movie began, lost when three of the old gang head off to war.

  • @piehole23 I find a contradiction between the gentle tone of the music and the violence of the fi;m.

  • @mikeyousofine Piehole, in my opinion explains the peace of Cavatina quite well I think. It isn't of the climatic or violent portions of the movie, but the innocence, joy, simplicity of the beginning. It creates a contrast between peace and war which is sharp and meaningful.

  • @mikeyousofine

I'm also Vietnamese. I'm 32 but I've loved this song since I was a teen.

To me the song goes perfectly with the movie - but that's just me.

My reasoning is that the movie is mainly about the relationships of the main characters - and how war disillusions their feel for how life was "supposed" to turn out in Pennsylvania.

The song is tranquil at some parts. But it's also deep, and dark at other times. And that's what happens with Nick, Linda, Mike in the movie

  • @piehole23 Thank you for your attention. I'm confused about the connection between the song Cavatina and the film The Deer Hunter. I belive The Deer hunter is a great film, but to Vietnamese, we can't say we love this film. That's all. But like Mr.mikyousofine said "The music is good enough to stand by itself". I think it's ok now

  • @phankhachuyanh Yes, I can understand that this movie would be not only hard to understand but also seen as unfair. In it there are no good Vietnamese people. They all come off as sadists who enjoy seeing Americans blow their brains out. American atrocities -- which were countless during that war - do not get shown. Very colonial.

  • @phankhachuyanh Whenever they play this song it is never in a scene when they are in Vietnam or doing any war scenes it is when they are home where too them everything is beautiful and free

  • @phankhachuyanh A MOVIE IS A PART OF EVERYTHING, BUT MUSIC IS EVERYTHING!

  • This song is just so amazing...but what else can one expect of John Williams? Nice pictures to go along with the song :)

  • @FordoF5 Thank you for your kind remarks.

  • @mikeyousofine Your welcome :)

  • Someone must have flipped their computer monitor upsidown so they could like this video twice.

  • @JPxKillz Or maybe they were so moved that they teared up and hit the wrong thumb...

  • They used to play this on 'Take Hart' (mid-70s) over the gallery of viewer's artwork. I always loved it.

  • Thankyou, my grandparents really enjoyed this =]

  • @joebainbridge Yep, I am that old as well.

I am pleased that they enjoyed it and thank you for your kind comments.

  • dear kimberly miller,

it was early 2008 and you bought tickets to a john williams concert for our first date. it was beautiful but not as beautiful as you that night and never as beautiful as our relationship. i dont think anything can compare. I know 2009 was crazy, everybody gets warshock and i do understand why you left me. from time to time i still listen to this beautiful song you always played on my guitar in our room and it helps me in my life of war. i wil always miss you beautiful..:)

  • @sampsonwei This is what he (sampsonwei) said in English. I went to Google Translate out of curiousity.

This is the first time to listen to beautiful melodies, will let me have a sense of loss. That is a touch of sadness, but also a deep sense of gratitude. The age of big, old friend, although the left one, but it is so beautiful memories! Willing to share with you. A Shan

And to think someone flagged that touching comment as spam!

  • The add shown is an insult to the song, it made me cringe, I couldnt wait to skip the add, its far to LOUD!!! it must be about 30 or more decibels louder than the actual video content, to me, its just noise and extremely annoying, when will these marketing muppets ever learn that you cant annoy people into watching or listening to anything at all, this practise is totally lame, its like someone going around with a megaphone shouting propaganda into peoples ears, result= I always mute adds.

  • Oh my God! They killed Kenny!!

  • Video is great. Shame about the adverts on the side.

  • 1 person remembers poltergeist :o

  • Hi, several people have this on playlists for John Williams the film composer, not realizing it is John Williams the classical guitarist. LOL, don't know how to convince them, but they don't believe me.

  • Comment removed

  • @Ultimist. As well as thinking that John T Williams (JTW -American composer/musical director) and John C Williams (JCW -classical guitarist) are one and the same, they also think that JCW composed the song himself specifically for "The Deer Hunter" film, when in fact JCW) did NOT write Cavatina (although it was regarded as the best cover of the song) but was originally composed by Stanley Myers in 1970. Also JTW was not the musical director of "The Deer Hunter". "Dont they ever use Google"

  • There is a dislike??...........how is that possible?

  • 心安らぐ一曲でホットします。Thank you .

  • Superb!

  • Dear Mike, Thank you for posting this beautiful music along with the poignant images. I fought in Vietnam with the Marines in 1969 and went on R&R in Australia. Ironically, as a flight attendant for Pan American, I first saw The Deer Hunter in Sydney, Australia in 1979. Although the movie portrayed the devastating consequences for those who endured the conflict, I have always felt that "Cavatina" was one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written for any film. Thanks again! Duane

  • @KlineDuane Hi Duane,

Thank you for your very kind comments. I am pleased that you liked it and I hope it brought back happy memories.

  • @KlineDuane Thank you for your service. Viet Nam time was a very horrible time. But this music puts out some nice "vibes" and you can kinda get your mind away from the atrocities and focus on life that is more beautiful, I hope.

  • @iappreciategoodmusic Thank you for watching my video. I hope it gave you pleasant memories.

  • Absolutely great video you created here Mike. I've always loved this song and every time I hear it, it never fails to bring a tear to my eye. For some reason though, I used to think this song was played by Willie Nelson. Very similar style nonetheless, if you listen to some of Nelson's stuff.

  • @datoobster75 Thank you very much for your kind comments.

  • @alexiaghi Thank you very much for your kind remarks

  • did you purposely choose sun sets for the pictures? The ending of the day, ending of things, ending of life..

  • @Simon0 I try, with varying degrees of success, to interpret the effect that the music has on me. I find this piece of music sounds melancholy, hence this effect of an ending

  • lovely track. reminds me of some of mike oldfields music, celtic rain..

  • when i was achild we used to be woken up by this every morning at butlins holiday camp! lol

  • I'm looking for an instrumental version but can not find it and I really like more than the original but very good melody

  • its easier to love people then hate.....

  • @decka71 for certain people it is much easier to hate them! there is someone in my life, man i just hate them whenever i think about them..

  • @Simon0 I believe it is harder to continue to hate someone than to try to ignore them
