  • Mott was the shit !. I saw them in NYC as the opening act for Queen at the Uris Theater on Broadway. Queen was being billed as the first Rock band on broadway but MOTT opened

  • @nyrvg Wow! i can only dream. Goodonya.

  • an all time classic. should have a million views at least. Shame.

  • my cat is a young dude

  • @TheKoss44100 My cat box is a young dude.

  • needed this today , glad there were bands like this growing up

  • I LOVE this song, thanks!

  • If ya didn't know the band, if ya looked quick ya would think it's Ace Frehley on the lp jr, and Arthur Kane on bass from The NYD lol

  • @tatethompson1234 yes I'm sure Ace got his original costume idea from Mott the hoople it is uncanny.

  • Nice hair at 3:18

  • I saw Ian Hunter/Mott the Hoople in concert in 1973 in Charleston, SC, and it changed my life.... What GREAT memories this video brings back!

  • Thank you for uploading this! Anyone out there in video land have a nice clean copy of that late 70's - early 80's German ( Rockpalast?) Concert with Mick Ronson and the heavy and definitive performance of Cleveland Rocks??? Luther Grosvenor...what a trip!

  • Cool

  • LOVE!!!!!

  • you in the glawsses...

  • Did they dis David Bowie?

  • Nicely said - Ian :)

  • Brilliant.

  • Great video of Mott the Hopple. Rock On 70s early glam rock. Why watch tv, when I go see T REX or Mitch Ryder or SWEET. Thanks y-tube and friends for up loading the jams.

  • damn! this is cool, never seen it before. i love youtube, thanks for posting.

  • Hey! Hey, You There!! The one with the Glasses. ;D

  • @DaNukePaintballGames ...And the Polyesther :)

  • sweet Guild S-100, Ian...

  • It's easy to see where Gene and Ace got their influence....

  • testo bellissimo.............

  • They always did a better version of this song than Bowie. Not saying they are better than Bowie, but they own this song.

  • @Super1bigKahuna ,,,Yeah, but you have to give ol' Zig his creds for writing what's essentially the first anthem of the Gay Rights Movement. And even if it wasn't, it's still a kick-ass song in its own rights!

  • Love Mott!!!!

  • he is a train wreck

  • all guitar bands from the recxent past and today are either copying this or taking huge chunks from their musical ethos.

Hunter was the original...... theatrical/rock entity, utterly original. Kinda scary really.

  • who is the douche bag that 'disliked' this? fucking brilliant

  • @TheNewGranada

    Thats f#ckinmg hysterical!!! Right on!!!

  • Great video of a fine performance. Thanks for sharing.

    Could you please permit embedding?

  • Was für ein namenloser Schrott.... Postet lieber mal Monte Carlo von den Junx...

  • Little did the masses know that lurking on the not to distant horizon was "Disco Duck".

  • If you listen closely, you hear the chords to One of the Boys for a second or two. That was a monster of song, too.

In '76 a friend and I hitchiked 70 miles through a downpour to see them in London, Ontario.

Ian introduced All the Young Dudes with "We'd like to play our national anthem", or something like that.

They were freaking incredible. Music with soul and snarl.

  • Luther has dedicated his new alum to my Simon! Bless ya ! xx

  • Is it just me or does Ace Frehley owe a lot to Luther Grosvenor a.k.a Ariel Bender? Even the out fit resembles Ace's later KISS persona.

  • @GonzoGuyy Good eye!

  • Anyone know that David Bowie wrote this one for (air guitar Mott)!!

  • no dislikes

this is one hell of a song that has meaning

  • Remember one of the bands that Ariel Bender (Luther Grosvenor)? Spooky Tooth - he played with Gary Wright. Check out the song "Evil Woman."

  • I was a freshman in high school and played this album till it was gone.

  • im sure queen were a groupie band 4 mott the hoople?

  • Who needs TV when we got T.REX, ROCK ON

  • ... my brother back at home with his Beatles & his Stones...

  • nice boots!

  • to Border Amigos....it was Orphan, not Baby who opened the show. You remember how loud Joe Walsh was? I was worried about BOC....

  • I take it that Mr. Bowie wrote this tune; If that's the case, Mr. Bowie welcome. This is the tune that introduced America to Glam Rock; Something I really like. Nice!

  • ……. Essential Glam Rock & an anthem in its time .……

  • One of my favourite Oasis songs.

  • @theselector Show some respect. This is a Mott the Hoople video.

  • @theselector that's an awesome comment!

  • @10ccalanarkush Cheers......at least u got it..

  • The great Ian Hunter, never knew WHAT side of the sexual fence HE was leaning on ; )...looks like howard stern took a few pages out of his note-book...these guys better be in the Hall, goddammit

  • Ace [Kissy]Frehly took notes here.....

  • This was just when Ariel joined up and is one of the first shows he did with them. I saw them at the Hollywood Palladium within days of this appearance.

  • What was the line up in this vid?

  • @DAVWAVE - Ariel Bender (Luther Grosvenor) - guitar; Ian Hunter - vocals; Dale Griffin - drums; Pete Overend Watts - drums; Morgan Fisher - keyboards; Mick Bolton - Hammond organ.

  • What a anthem.

  • @LORDGOAT1976

It is the anthem for that era ~ right on.

  • All the young dudes are old dudes now....

  • What ever became of Aerial Bender? He was one of my guitar hero's back in the day.

  • I want that Les Paul Jr... What tone!!!

  • Funniest intro ever! LOL!

  • Oh yeah..... great vid. I have a recording of the show but never knew that it was filmed. Great to see it. (Ian has more strap than guitar.... holy cow)

  • I grew up with Mott, and still love em!

  • thanks for putting that for view.... loved it

  • I generally like this song but dont' find this to be one of the better versions

  • it was noted the outfit was like Ace's, Ace coped some of the moves too, at 3:10ish.those 2 kids are now in their mid 50's, crazy.

  • @BSlash24 We're older than that.........

  • it was noted the outfit was like Ace's, Ace coped some of the moves too, at 3:10ish.

  • @guido mine too at Toledo Sports Arena in 73. Sat 4th or 5th row back from stage with my sister Karen. I was 14 and she was 17.

  • A David Bowie composition, but Mott the Hopple certainly made it a memorable song it is.... "Well he rapped all night about his suicide"

  • Note simlarity of Bender's outfit to Ace Frehley's yet to come..hmmm

  • Ian's very john lennon-ish

  • now that was my 1st concert at the toledo sports arena--1973

  • This was about the time I saw them at the Hollywood Palladium. Opening for them were Baby, Blue Oyster Cult then Joe Walsh with Barnstorm. I was right next to the stage left speaker stack. Have been deaf in one ear ever since.

  • @BorderAmigos I was there at that gig as well...... ;-)

  • @johnamour013 Yeah, we all were.

  • @Nigelxman not all.... some.

  • This is so great...... and I found it on the first anniversary of the MTH shows in London.... happy and sad all at once.

  • Bass player and footwear legend Overend Watts learned to drive in his Bond Bug. I love the Seventies !!!

  • Ian you speak like a big nancy boy here !

  • Thanks for the MtH vids, takes me back.... 10th grade of high school...where did all the time go?
