  • what a bad playing...

  • very very cool song! i love such oldschool tunes. go on!

  • Thanks for your comment, RaverWild!

  • Korg Oasys Can't achieve the kind of sounds of the Virus TI doesnt' it?

  • @tonato17 I think they are quite different, or I wouldn't have wasted money on the TI. However, the OASYS' MOD-7 engine could probaby sound close by routing one MOD-7 into another MOD-7 and using FM distortion (overloading, just a bit into an oscillator, which would allow filtering before and after the distortion - which Virus does a lot - Filter Saturation and distortion models). Any synth, sample, input can be routed into MOD-7 and the MS-20 engines in Combi mode. Worth experimenting....

  • thats really creepy at the end

  • @chriscash1982 exactly

  • i really dont understand hardware sequencers in this day and age :) but whatever floats your boat :) nice song btw

  • They're like software sequencers, but you don't have to take your focus off of the keyboard, to make a song. :>) I play the parts, so I don't spend much time editing notes.

I have Sonar 7 and 64 channels available through my MIDI Sport, but it takes me so much longer to deal with.

  • @scoopicman oh haha i know what they are i just dont see why anyone would uyse them over a software alternative, they are very limited in comparison. Oh ok I understand now, if you don't do much editing or post production then i guess its not really that important. It obviously works for you so i cant really critisise :)

  • @sacredgeometry ok well do me the favour and tell me a vst thats a good alternative to this

  • @absoluutrecords a vst version of what? the sequencer? ummm god knows energyXT used to be a vst sequencer but traditionally you use VSTs inside DAWs like logic, cubase, live, etc either one of those are a great alternative. If you are talking about the virus, well there are hundreds of vst synths out there. Its just picking ones you like the sound of.

    peace

    Brian

  • BTW - I mean an iPhone controlling a virus, not providing the sound source.. Apologies, I worded that badly

  • God damn it, how can u guys afford the Virus -unless u're music pros- at about $ 3000 ?

  • Actually, I paid $2,000 for the TI keyboard. Musician's Friend messed up the price, when they first put it online, so I immediately ordered! :>)

I also use synths to make money.

  • @niteowlsam i also got it cheaper

it is recommended if you can afford only one synthesizer cause it has it all and it is the most versatile.

  • @niteowlsam Jobs mate, some pay well, others less so. Anyone with a low paying job could afford a Virus, if they saved money.

  • @coylesolid. Well, isn't that obvious?I dont expect to see someone on welfare buying a Virus. But I meant $3000 isn't little money to be spending on a musical instrument, unless,u have a decent income, u're a musician,or just in love with the thing and willing to sacrifice that much money to get it.It wouldnt take me a lot of time to save up the money to buy one,but I know there's no justification for me to spend that much knowing that I dont really need one, though it's nice to have.

  • @niteowlsam I picked up the Virus Snow for $1200 AU used, and have a bunch of other gear worth much more. Pretty sure everyone who would fork out the high prices must be a musician and in love with the thing, including myself, otherwise why would you buy it?

To me, it's not a lot to pay for such a great piece of kit. Much better than VST's which I used for a long time.

And also, this gear doesn't lose too much value over time if you keep it in good nic.

  • @coylesolid Buying used makes it a lot more reasonable but some people r buying brand new Ti for $3000 plus tax and some seem to be kids, well, maybe rich kids who can afford expensive toys but they dont look like pro musicians.Obviously a musician needs good equipment like the Virus.I'm not saying 3000 is terribly expensive but I dont think its something I need to buy.I'll probably buy a used one for 1/2 price.Yea,screw software. Its not worth the headache.Nothing like hardware.

  • @niteowlsam or you have it on a payment plan... thnx....

  • @imsothemanXD Well, I can buy a ti brand new cash right now but would I? No.What I meant is how can people -some arent pro musicians- spend $3000 on it? $3000 isn't a huge amount of money but I mean I wouldnt spend that much on a keyboard unless I have too much extra cash or I'm a pro musician. That's what I meant.I wouldnt buy anything on payment even if it's $5/month.Never have and never will.I'd just wait until I find a used one for 1/2 price.

  • @niteowlsam

Im a person on welfare who is buying the virus so haha. Going to have it next week

  • @coylesolid Ha! Like me ;)

  • Please - let me hear your IPhone song.

  • @scoopicman good Jesus why ppl have to say something so stupid like that.. lol

  • wow, that i realy wanna see how you makin a virus ti sound on your iphone...

you realy must show us that

  • post the song, surely u can make it better, let us see that u are not a fucking cowdungmouthful

  • I'll see what I can do. Again - good technical achievement!

  • @weaponEX haha not a fat chance! Maybe in 10 years time when the iPod is like a powerful computer. But that is called an iMac anyways :)

  • AHH you have my two fav keyboards in the world!

  • Very nice! I like melody and chords.

  • Thats a TI ? Amazing. I have one but i haven't started tinkering with it yet.

    But that is wholly impressive.

  • Thanks! Most people think Viruses as trance synths, but a lot of variety can be had by getting in there.

  • Oh no, the TI is one of the most versatile synths out there. Oviously it helps if you know about programming but you almost have an empty canvas with full palette with a TI.

  • Totally agree. :>)

  • Great song. I like the chord changes.

  • nice snare

  • having a vitus ti along with the korg oasys that room should be pumping not asleep....

  • By now, my wife/kids are very resilient, even at 3am.

  • My whole purpose was to make something that didn't sound like the cliche' Virus trance sound. - that it could be soft and subtle. Thanks for watching.

  • is the snare drum also coming from the Ti?!

I'm looking forward to buy one so i no need an extra drum engine then :)

  • Yes, the snare is from the TI, but it took some playing around with the EQ and Reverb to get it to sound like that. I would recommend drums from another source, because it also frees up some polyphony. But, the TI can potentially do it all, if you are laying down tracks.

  • By the way nice song....(if its from yourself)

my Virus Ti2 is already at the post station. Drinking some tea now and then i go for it!!!

  • Thanks. Congrats on the TI2! You're going to be busy.... :>)

  • hey guys there he is! youtube com/watch?v=zX-AZeFm-qs

i just played with a preset and tewaked some knobs :) but its sounds fat ^^

    cheers

  • So you're the guy who sneaks up into people's houses in the night and play them 80's synth music while they're sleeping! :D

  • That's me. People tend to wake up all bee bopity and jiggy!

  • Yes, they are really cool. But,....I like the MOD-7 engine even more!

  • Hahaha...wtf is up with the end?

  • Late night inspiration hits and my sleeping family won't wake up for anything. :>)

  • Out of Site! Awesome.

  • $10k in two keyboards, you are really lucky dude, im saving for get my first keyboard, one Virus TI.

    Nice, God bless you.

  • The TI is cool. I hope you like it. My first keyboard was a Yamaha DX7. I still have a few other keyboards, but they don't get turned on nearly as much as these two.

  • Excellent Job!!! Hope I can figure out how to use the Virus with the same skill/creativity you have! Just got the desktop version, have to figure out how to use it now! hobbyist at heart

  • Thanks! I used to have the Virus C desktop and really enjoyed its form factor. The TI pays off, the more you get to know it.

  • The TI has its own sound with the filter saturation and FX, like Phaser. You can get an OASYS for 5K and it's definitely worth it, if you like tweaking deep engines with the aid a dedicated hardware interface and touchscreen.

The MOD-7 engine can cover a lot of TI ground, but takes a bit of programming. I like having the TI, in case the OASYS breaks, or vice versa. Each of those synths could single handedly score one of my movies, though the TI would be all electronic, which I don't mind.

  • Great song. I have a question: what does the Oasys do to make it worth $10,000? Your still using a TI with it, I wonder if it can match the TI with it's own synthesis?

  • Very eighteen! Good!

  • Oh and song reminds of EVE online , really similar sounds and melody , even ambient.

Do you by any chance play EVE online?

  • No, I haven't, but I'm checking out the site now. The MP3s are really cool!

  • What is with people sleeping , do you try to annoy them? lol.

Anyway , you sampled virus ti sound into oasys or what?

    It sounds great!

  • Thanks! I wasn't going to use the shot of the wife and kids, but it was kind of funny to look up and see them there. I had headphones on.

I was sequencing all the Virus voices, but with all the simultaneous FX, it started dropping notes. So, I ran it into the OASYS' inputs and recorded each track onto the HD recorder. The OASYS functions as a mixer, so I can hear/record outside equipment and other tracks through the L/R bus, but use the Record Bus routings to lay down individual tracks.

  • Now I get it. Hehe.

  • Thanks a lot !

  • Which preset (program, sound etc. i don't know how it's called) did you use in 1:00 (this arpeggiated something) ? Are drums from Ti too ? Amazing Sound & video !

  • "Arpin 7", bank S-008. No arpeggiation used, as I just played one note, followed by the same note, one octave higher. I also set the delay on it to 1/8 notes.

Drums are also TI. The preset snares aren't that great, but I used EQ and reverb dampening to get the snare to sound like....a snare. Thanks for the comment!

  • Good stuff! I liked it.
