Oh yeah-this is a good experience for Derek-the Arnold is in the same league as the Olympics or even his main competition-World's Strongest Man so even if he didn't win WSM,he won this and Pudzianowski didn't!
Super Athelete Franco Colombu who blew up hot water bottles by breathing and with limited equipment (just a belt/knee wraps-no suits/wrist wraps) Benched over 500lbs and Deadlifted 750lbs
Jack LaLanne's the ultimate though-look his feats up!
To answer your question, probably stronger than any of them. All of the athletes you just mentioned were bodybuilders (although Franco powerlifted and Jackson does now). Jackson deadlifts 820? Franco 750? Watch the video of Poundstone repping 800lbs 9 times, almost 10, with no suit. Ronnie is a genetic freak and im sure he would have been a world class powerlifter if he had decided to, but he took the bodybuilding route instead.
you can't even compare a bodybuilder to a strongman and yes derek poundstone is a strongman, not a powerlifter, there is a difference. And to answer your question, poundstone would be stronger than any IFBB Pro bodybuilder, don't get me wrong IFBB pros are strong, especially coleman and johnnie jackson but poundstone is alot stronger than them. their types of training are way different
@ronki23 with all due respect, johnnie jackson is not the worlds strongest bodybuilder and i guarantee everyone will see that when Stan Efferding tops him in the worlds strongest BB competition at this years Olympia. as far as the lifts, poundstone can bench over 520, deadlifts 800 nearly 10x, though im not sure what his squat max is but its up there. as for coleman, i couldnt say, ive never seen poundstone perform those lifts.
most likely mariusz because the events in the worlds strongest man arent't usual lifts they challenge the body and he has a lot more experience personally i like poundstone he would hae won 2008 but he dropped the final stone
Cops aren't tested for steroids. Strongman doesnt test for steroids either. Pudzianowski was positive for cocaine. And by Poundstone's build you say he is not a user? As much as I would like to believe that, I think he is human, and people should just accept steroid use in sports, because everyone is doing it.
actually, you are asked if you have ever used anabolic steroids during the hiring process. and it is verified through a polygraph test. back when poundstone became a cop it might have been different. I know for a fact he did use steroids. I grew up around the gym he trained at and he was juiced out of his mind
dude pudz is 32 and has won wsm 5 times, theres a point where you arent gonna be the best anymore, and sadly pudz has readched it. and btw he got 2nd in wsm 2009
Thats why its called strongman num nutz. It aint powerlifting, and is sure as hell aint bodybuilding. Dont judge a sports athletes unless you compete yourself in that sport.
I would ultimately like world record titles for lifts too also be judged on perfect form... If you own a lift like that, you better own everything about it. In a way secrificing form is everything, I didnt ask to see "Big guy with no form, bad balancing and huge tires on bar world record!"
But that is what I am saying, why would I care about this athletic competition (Not a sport), if the lifts are bad compared to other competitions... This competition is not anything to look up too.
He leaned all his weight backwards and definitely looks crunched up with no full extension... Fair? Also he rolled it up onto his knees and almost calf raised it. The judges were right in the firt place imo.
It's referred to as a "hitch." These guys are all very strong (obviously) but, no, that would have been an illegal lift in powerlifting. Still, as I said ........very strong indeed.
Because you know Derek and all of these guys personally? Im sure there are some that do use drugs but to generalize every athlete.... Especially Derek... Real Nice
hi mtsfitness. I do not know Derek personally, but I have been involved with strength training for 31 years..I would estimate that a very very high percentage of the strength participants at the Arnold are taking several types of anabolics including GH and of course at their body weights , taking prescription drugs to lower high blood pressure and hyper cholesterolemia /hyperlipidemia.
Do i see mark henry?

This comment has received too many negative votes show
He may be strong, but how strong is he compared to:
Ronnie Coleman (2300lb leg presses,700lbs shrugs,barbell rows over 400 lbs,bar bending T bar rows)
World's Strongest BB'er Johnnie Jackson (520lb Bench,820lb Squat,820lb Deadlift)
OR
Super Athelete Franco Colombu who blew up hot water bottles by breathing and with limited equipment (just a belt/knee wraps-no suits/wrist wraps) Benched over 500lbs and Deadlifted 750lbs

Ronnie,Franco,Johnnie,Lou,White and Efferding would be as good as most of them in powerlifting terms;maybe not strongman

It would be awesome to see Derek, Ronnie Coleman and Mariusz go head to head in the WSM competition. Who do you think would come out on top?

@DethMetalDrums if ronnie coleman trained as a strongman during his prime he would rape them.

@steriods4champions I think that's bullshit, but it's pointless to argue over because it's never going to happen.

@steriods4champions Ronnie Coleman sucks ass and is nothing compared to the Norse.

pudzianowski - more reps, endurance.
savickas, poundstone - power, lower reps with bigger weights.
altho, if savickas would competed in this year arnolds he would have won again, like he did won againt poundstone in fortissimus 2009

powerlifters do "perfect" forms and shit..
strongman competitions involve using.. tires and.. cars and trucks and god knows what!!
the point of strongman is pretty much to get the weight up way or another.. dont compare it with powerlifting.

Agree! Use as much drugs as possible over a one period then try to win the Arnold ( Rx) like ALL of these guys are doing.

He bended his knees at the end of the lift and put the bar on his thighs. I don't think that should be counted as a good lift.
