probably a valve cover gasket leak, very common on s series saturns. it costs $30 to replace, takes less than an hour.

but it wasn't worth fixing this car, it had a knock in the engine.

it was more for fun than to actually drive. i think the bearings were shot on it, that's why it was knocking so loudly. i tried to drive it from my house to my shop (10 miles) and only got halfway there, and the car just died. i paid one of those "cash for junk cars" guys to come tow it away

nah. very hard to find parts. i tried looking for parts for my '00 SL1 and there's nothing but stock replacement parts, pretty much. there are a few performance options that you can do but you'll be spending a lot of time building your own custom parts.

This Saturn must have the double overhead cam engine in it. They were SHIT. I had a 1990 Saturn SC1 with a single overhead cam engine and it had 390,000 KMS on it. I just sold it to a relative and still got $500.00 for it and it passed an e-test and a safety. Still going strong.

actually, the twin cam motors are much much stronger engines than the single cam. you basically got lucky. i have had 19 saturns(i'm a car dealer, 2 of those were my personal cars though) and every single cam i have ever driven was absolute junk, even at 70k miles. i would never ever own a saturn with that engine.

the single cam doesn't even compare to the twin cam. plus, it's slow as fuck and generally has no options

all S series saturns regardless of engine had an oil consumption problem, the problem is usually the rings. saturns die because people don't check their oil like they should. i suspect that's what happened to this car

considering the engine was on its way out, this was just for fun and i didn't do this "right". i just cut it off, no reinforcing. i was extremely surprised at how rigid the car is. i had 3 men jumping up and down inside the car, also drove it probably max of 50 mph (all the engine could really handle, lol), and there was no bending anywhere. i have heard of others cutting the roof off saturns with no issues, but again, just for fun. if i was to actually drive it, i'd think about reinforcing
