  • And so, as they ran away from the crime scene, bags of money overflowing in their arms, the armed robbers realized that their getaway engines were really not up to the task of outrunning and evading the law.

  • Definitely feel like that SP 6 Chime fits Heisler #6.

  • This is awesome!

Thanks to Gov. Underwood! There would be no Cass Railroad if it were

    not for him. R.I.P.

    all that SMOKE! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

    Great video, thanks!

Used to go up to Cass back in the 60s and its good to see those mighty engines still puffing away.

  • My grandfather William Guy Stanley was a engineer, he wrecked the No.6.

  • Great Video

  • the whistle on #2 sounds like tweetsie 190

  • The point of the Shay was never speed.

The locomotives were intended for use on really poor track that was laid & shifted to follow logging operations. Even power without slipping.

There were Shays still at work in the Phillipines in the 70s & a sugar mill had one too. The main operation was logging.

The logging engines burnt offcuts of mahogany. The sugar mill engine ran on bagasse, the waste left over after the cane was crushed. Very poor fuel, but it was free & produced volcanic fire effects.

  • Man, that smoke is thick!!! Do those trains run on wood, or something?

  • @Rileyfree they run on coal all the locomotives at cass run on it

  • Not a good add for coal.... I'm not sure whether I'm choked up with emotion or soot....

  • LOL! Moral of the story: In a drag race, if you're in a Shay, and the other dude is in a Heisler, you're gonna get pwned.

Lotta black smoke- somebody needs to read up on L.D. Porta- could save lots of fuel, extend the tube life, and cut emissions to nothing.
