The album that this song is on was the first Chick Corea Elektric Band CD I ever had. I was 15 yrs old and had never heard Corea or Weckl play, but I kept seeing Dave Weckl in ads & articles inside Modern Drummer magazine so I went out & bought it. I've been a fan ever since!
You can find a better version of this live track by searching for "Dave Weckl Got a Match". There are parts 1 and 2 (6- and 10- minutes respectively). Enjoy!
I swear every time I listen to CCEB my Operating Thetan Levels jump about about six levels!!! I know, I know it's impossible because if I was already at OT XII (i wish) then jumping six would make me OT XVIII. Which everyone knows doesn't exist. But nevertheless this band is smokin!
when i first started trying to figure all the genres of jazz out so that i could understand what i was trying to do, that was my first guess as well. basically unless the term fusion is used after another genre eg. 'rock fusion' (an example of which is the band "Karizma") it is basically the term used for contemporary jazz. otherwise it can be used to fit it's purpose "a fusion of latin and rock" (e.g. santana maybe?)
pat Metheny mixes with a lot of things like ambiental songs, McLaughlin mix it with the proggresive rock of the 70'...but...when you call the contemporanry players fusion you are calling a second term..."Avant-garde", it's like the "destroy, erase and improve" that was talking Meshuggah...it's the renewal of the arts, it's the same fusion but with new influences...i don't know if you get the point...=P
when you name somethinl like "fusion" you have to consider a lot of things. First, the termn "fusion" it's quite imprecise, maybe subjective, but every fusion player has something in common, it has jazz roots. Contemporary jazz players like Guthrie Govan, Cynic, Exivious even Coprofago had something in comon, and every one is a great Fusion intepreter in theyr own styles. Santana it's a fusion player too, he had a lot of Latin Jazz influences, Mike Stern mix jazz with a smooth rock,
I completely agree with 100% but there's no reason to highlight any differences based on race. If they're makin good music who cares what color they are?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You're right, it shouldn't matter, but I make the distinction because a lot of jazz historians have a very "Afrocentric" approach to jazz and claim that White Americans can't play it as well; for example in the Ken Burns series on Jazz white musicians were ignored. Charlie Parker, John Coltrane and Miles Davis were amazing geniuses but so were Gershwin, Bill Evans, Chet Baker etc. and many of the best jazz musicians today like Corea and Jarrett are white.
Yes, I know. As I said, it shouldn't matter at all but in Ken Burns' Jazz series Wynton Marsalis ignores white jazz musicians like Keith Jarrett and Chick Corea completely
People like Chick Corea don't play music to attract a 'certain' class in society. Ask Robert Johnson if he played because he wanted to attract the white folk. No, for these types of musicians; (Jelly Roll Morton, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Art Blakey, Elvin Jones, Bill Evans, Miles Davis, Chick Corea and many more...) music is their way of life. They speak it better than words, so please do not mistake this as being 'music industry' music. Peace.
this is from concert of the album "TO THE STARS" this is after they have played their new music ..they jam old tunes that ones ruled the jazz scene..and i think this is the ultimate jazz band..the greatest players in their instruments combined
I think this is from the Montreaux live DVD. I've heard them play this tune lots of times and every time I have to shop for new underwear. Good players inspire you to play better. Guys this good just make me want to give up!!!
El público de este concierto realmente es increíble, en un concierto de rock los cantantes "improvisan" melodías de tres notas y todos cantan desafinados, acá el público repite unos giros melódicos bastante complicados...eso se llama improvisación en masa ; )
That's what i said in spanish, compare this with the audience of a rock concert, they don`t "got a match" with a four notes melody; but here they improvise with Chick Corea, that's cool
