That play he makes at first base at the :28 mark just took my breath away. Technically, the ball was behind him when he makes that insane play. A coulple of tumbles then back on his feet in time to make the play at first. I must have watched that play at least ten times in the last hour... amazing!
This is an awesome video. What it needs is Steve Zabriskie's quote one time, "That would have taken a Hernandez-type play, and Keith was busy hitting that ball."
I got to grow up watching Mattingly & Hernandez play at the same time in the same city to bad no inter-league back then, they would of set the city ablaze every single summer playing on the same field against each other.
this video is a great idea ... although it does need a little more footage.
and as for "keith the magnificent", his trade to ny from st. louis was the best trade in ny mets history ! ! he brought class (which is something most ball players don't know much about), passion, a collection of gold gloves, an mvp award, a .300 batting avg, grace, charm (which helped sell the mets' brand to so many ladies in the 80's) and now in 2011 we are fortunate enough to still have him here ! !
HERNANDEZ a notch over Mattingly and the short porch in right field at yankee stadium. Mattingly was an excellent ball player too. If you started a team you can't go wrong if you chose either. It's like comparing apples and oranges. I feel Hernandez was a teacher of the game. He was also excellent defending against the bunt. No one was better there. No one was better defensively. He should be voted in the hall of fame when the writers/old timers committee have their say.
Nice video. Clarity of video "could have been better". However it was nice to put it together for whoever created it :).. He should get more consideration for hall of fame. Tony Gwynn got in without hitting a lot of home runs. One could make the argument that Keith was as good at first base as Ozzie Smith was at shortstop.

Mattingly's best seasons were as good as anybody who ever lived. Hernandez was a great, great player but Mattingly's prime was hall of fame worthy.

Needs more footage of Keith's signature play, charging like a madman on a bunt attempt to nab the advancing runner.

Used to love him with the Cardinals in the late 70s and early 80s. Once he became a Met, though, he was the enemy!
