I was in St. Louis when the show went dark on Broadway for a week to come to the St. Louis Muny theatre (12,000 seats, outside on this enormous stage with a turntable). I got to meet everyone in the cast backstage; everyone was so kind but I was in a daze face to face with so many legends I never thought I see face to face. Collins hushed that enormous audience every night with this song. No dramatics, no tricks, no staging, just pure heart and feeling.
Why do we feel the need to compare (I am including myself here)? Collins was amazing. I was at Lincoln Center when Cook performed it. Astounding. Each different, but each wonderful. I have not seen Bernadette (though I will be) and though I love her, what I've heard of her version doesn't thrill me. But it does others. To each their own!
I'm just happy that I finally got to see a good picture of THE DRESS! The famously expensive gown that she wore for Losing My Mind. Magnificent!
@gerardleddy Are you effing kidding me!?!? I alo saw this 13 times in my youth, too!!! Not 12, not 14, but 13 just like you!! I got $3 standing room tickets at the back of the orchestra for a grand total of $39.00; there was a whole group of us who came over and over again. So you beat me by .50 cents! Like me, probably every moment ot this show is thankfully burned into your memory banks. I am just afraid to see the revival for fear I would be making unfair comparisons.
Are you guys gay? Please say yes! I saw the original production of Side by Side by Sondheim in London 13 times from the cheapest seats as a teenager and felt just like you. Stephen Sondheim and this show became an integral part of my growing up. I am from Denmark - thousands of miles from you. What a small world, indeed
@gerardleddy It is a small world indeed, I saw it 13 times also. Sometimes I bought seats, other times I would by standing room. After a certain point the ushers would let me take a seat. I went to the last performance, and when they finished the Mirror, Mirror number till this day I still can see what what looked like a kind of aura hovering the stage. It was just so magical. Collins rendition is just heaven on earth, and her acting was right on target too.
A beautifully constructed montage to accompany the single finest version of "Losing My Mind" by the incomparable Dorothy Collins. What a show that was! Many thanks
best version...ever!

Pull up Peter Filichia's "Diary column from Theater Mania website dated 09/16/11 and you will find his 40 reasons to see this revival.
This one sure beats the 2001 revival... but "Encores!" still leads by a nose as does Paper Mill Playhouse's production with Ann Miller.

I saw this13 times in my youth. I bought "obstructed view" for $2.50 and moved over to the BEST seats when the overture arose.
Still nothing like it or the memory of it!
