In the last five years I have accumulated well over 90,000 klicks thats close to 60,000 miles on my Urals, In that time I have broken just about everything that can be broken but it is part of my deal with Ural, I am an unofficial test rider for them and have pushed these rigs far BEYOND what they were ever designed to do . Go over to the ADV-Rider, web site and read the MANY ride reports I have posted over the years and I think you will see how the reliability has improved.
the only thing keeping me from getting one of these currently is the old reputation for lack of reliability. i know its improved quite a bit but by how much. would i be able to go 2,000 miles before needed some work? or am i gonna be stopping at every ural dealer to fix the thing.
Well in Washington we also call such a small diameter log a toothpick, it wasn't the size of the log it was how it was half buried and the angle it was at in relationship to the down slope on the trail that caused the rig to become stuck. Watch the video again and note how it was the drive wheel digging in behind the log that caused it get stuck not the size of the log itself.
This video was shot just past the gate on Russian road years ago it is no longer possible to ride in this area thanks to the tree huggers and those who dump their garbage in the forest.
@afraone i used to live on russian i would be riding my bike down the road and i would see you ride up there, my friend used to live in the white house right across the road from the entrance, i was up there a coulpe of nights ago and quads can get in now but thats about it. i have been wanting to take my bronco up there but i dont know any one who would want to go with me.
I was supprised to see the side car wheel is also a drive wheel. How does that happen. I had a '66 BMW with the side car hardward and don't remember any way to get the sidecar wheel to drive.
Ural builds one wheel drive and TWO wheel drive rigs. There is no differential both the bike pusher and the sidecar wheel are locked when the two wheel drive is engaged. The final drive on the two wheel drive Urals is built to allow driving the sidecar wheel via drive-shaft that runs under the sidecar. Check out some of my other videos and you will see the two wheel drive really being used in very rough terrain especially the ones taken in Death Valley.
You guys are awesome. I still don't have my dame Gear-Up, but as soon as I find out that I have a teaching job come fall, I'm trading my Roastar in for an 09 Gear-Up. Then life, as life was intended, begins!
Yes Don is crazy, but a darn good rider. I don't have the skill Don has so I abuse the clutch. I am using some experimental clutch disks in my rig and even when abused as in this video they hold up well and don't warp due to heat and lock up like the stock clutch does when used in this manner.
Great stuff Mr. Cob! Really enjoying your Europe trip over on ADV.
I'm working on convincing my Dad to get a Ural for retirement...

That was a pretty cool trick with the ratchet! If I ever get one of these I am definitely keeping a long ratchet tie down on the bike!
