No stunts, no flashy stage gimmicks....Just pure, relentless jazz! And oh my God, when Dr. John started singing!!!....Who else let out a little cheer at that moment?
i am one of the doctors biggest fans and had the chance to meet him in boulder, colorado when i worked for capitol records and a friend from warner brothers to me back stage to meet him.i played his stuff when i was a dj in atlanta and other cities. he is amazing.randy robins
Dr John's band in Monteux that year was the best I've seen .Everyone complements the other (the mess around) beginning with the horn section ('specially the baritone sax),base guitar ,drums etc,and of course the great Dr John,
@rogerstill71 Fess didn't right this, Ahmet Ertegun wrote it, then Ray (who was the first to record it) took the main riff from Jelly Roll Morton's "New Orleans Blues"
robin williams on trumpet.

It's just oozing out of the doc, he rolls in there, no bullshit, sits at the piano and just blows the audience out of it with pure talent!!!

Fess wrote this, not Ray - Ray did a great cover of it and made it popular with white audiences

Does he still play this song at his shows? He's coming to BluesFest in Kitchener this August and would LOVE to see him play this live. Amazing.

I think Dr. John version is mor musical when talking about the orther instruments beside the piano.
his saxes did great but Ray Charles sings and play with tha fucking smile in his face wich can make the song look a lot 'happier'

He's got himself some great saxes...love how they call each other.

I wish I could see a video of "gris gris" and "I Walk On Guilded Splinters"... Two of DJs greatest songs.

Saw this in concert and reminded me of dancing in the aisles, love that the band complimented the Dr and did not hide his piano skills.
