  • The summer of 1964-paid on Friday for work at the Tobacco Warehouse in Waycross; the Saturday Jacksonville concert with The Drifters, Gladys Knight & The Pips & others-with the starring act, Jackie Wilson. What a memory. The guitar was featured in this song.

  • Makes me miss Florida... miss dancin' with my granny on the beach her singing parts of this song. Great Memories

  • Sorry gmaylin, Billie Washington was not an Original Drifter. The Clyde McPhatter Drifters are all dead and the Ben E King Drifters are all dead except King and Charlie Thomas. Washington may have been one of the dozens of singers who were part of the Drifters at one time or another, but he definitley was not one of the originals. He was around 9 years old when the Drifters were formed in 1953 and 15 when the Ben E King Crowns became the Drifters.

  • dit is iets wat wij wille horen wat goed

  • Saw the Drifters last year on a cruise ship (Billie Washington only living original member) -they were fantastic - sounded as good today as when they first started.

  • Their music brought people together and made them feel good...

  • Drifting with the drifters - that's where I want to be Graham -Melb - Aus

  • My life was so simple and easy in the 60's...I just didn't realize it then. I'd give my left nut to go back....

  • This song is part of one of my earliest and most vivid memories of formative childhood experiences. This one, in particular, was the day I thought of my dad as my buddy, and was proud that he said I was his buddy, and we were driving around Phoenix doing father/son stuff, shopping, going out to eat, going to the movies. This song came on that day while he and I drank bottle of coke in the car. Somewhere along the line I got it into my head I wasn't his buddy anymore. I don't know what happened.

  • @LanceHertford D'aww. :<

  • Heres an interesting story not many people know. Back in the 60's studio time was very expensive and hard to get. A few days before the drifters recorded this song a close friend had died, they couldn't reschedule the studio time, so proceeded to sing the song anyway. It was suppose to be a very happy and upbeat hook by the backup vocals, instead you can hear the eeriness of the guys vocals as they sing, cause they honestly did not want to be their. This is what makes this song so memorable.

  • @thentilnowinc WOW!!! I TOTALLY HEAR IT!!!

  • @thentilnowinc it was the lead singer, Rudy Lewis, who died so former lead singer, Johnny Moore, was brought back to record it :)

  • @thentilnowinc -- Great input ! This has been one of my favorite songs ! What you have shared shows the great commitment these guys must have had .. rare thing these days perhaps !
