  • I have a relative who worked in a nursing home and she says that it is horrible for those poor folks. For my part, I (i'm disabled) lived in an apartment building for the elderly and disabled and had a bad experience because we have to admit that some elderly people even having all what they need and living in good conditions, live taking their frustations on others. However that DOES NOT justifies that the elderly are mistreated and kept in horrible conditions.

  • Exelente !! ;gracias,desde argentina.

  • Life begins at 80. YouTuber gpoec is 85 years old.

    Octogenerian (81)

  • This is a definite eye-opener.

  • Old people should be put to death at birth.

  • haha

  • There are communities around the world where everyone chips in with their time and care when they are able to, to help look after the older people within the community. Then when they need the help themselves its there for them, as the following generations continue on the care.

Its a wonderful system, and it works so well, and pulls the people together making a friendlier world.

We need to encourage ideas such as this into our so modern life in the UK and other areas.

  • my nana is 79 and lives with us she was talking about going into a care home because she thinks shes a burden on us and we keep telling her she would be worse off in a care home because we would never know what goes on behind closed doors. now i can show her this.

she loves watching your videos she thinks your an inspiration to older people and she send you her love

  • I worked in some old folks homes in all areas of the country installing nurse-call systems. To say they vary is an understatement. I just hope I have all my marbles and am fit enough to look after myself and wife until I drop dead at 105!

  • ARGH why aren't my comments sticking??? Just wanted to say how glad I was that you shared this, Peter, since I missed it when broadcast to my eternal regret!!

  • This is brilliant. I managed to miss this when it was broadcast to my eternal regret. Thanks so much for sharing these extracts, Peter!

  • Hospitals--bah. My 94 year old gran, a vital lady, went to hospital with a congestive heart issue. Treatable with water pills. A nurse put a nitro glycerin patch on her & She went into arrhythmia. I told the

cardiologist & the idiot said "well, she is in her '90s" I made 'em remove it & she recovered. The fool admitted it was the patch. By then she was weak. She fell 3 weeks later. I've thought of going into the health care business out of spite. Many in the field have zero empathy.

  • The general public focus all their attention on child care rather than other vulnerable people like the disabled, elderly or animals. You only have to watch the news to know that, if an old person dies because of poor treatment, it dosent make front page news atall, no one loses their jobs. Anyone/thing thats vulnerable should be treated with professional, government care, not just children. Old people who have lived all their lives and contributed so much no doubt shouldnt go out in this way.

  • Dear Peter, I actually felt like crying watching it. I'm only 57 but I am always telling my husband that should anything come to me, like dementia, senility etc... to please give me some pills and let me die with dignity. It's about time this Government took steps to clean their act regarding social issues. All these MPs and councillors earning hundreds of thousands, with freebies galore and the people are submited to such abuse. It's disgusting!! But, what can we do Peter?

  • A great video that shares a much needed message. Thank you so very much.

  • Chilling. The indifference and incompetence of the staff, the desperation of the elderly. Whenever they complain I bet the staff just assures relatives that it's due to dementia. These people have full and productive lives and have to end them by losing their health, autonomy and dignity. No country can call itself civilized and treat it's elderly in such a manner.

  • This is terrible conditions for the elderly! Our elderly need the up most care and compassion. They are still humans with feelings and emotions and they need the best care! Thanks for posting this Peter! Something really needs to be done to shut down these awful care facilities both there in the UK and here in the USA!

  • We as a people of the most powerful nation DO have a problem with elderly care facilities. It's gone on decade after decade and those individuals who are "certified" to watch over multiple patients are simply overwhelmed with responsibility and are grossly underpaid. That's not fiction, it's reality, and countries around the world simply do not address the problem. I've followed Peter's comments and concerns since he's been on here, and this is by far the MOST important issue he's addressed.

  • : ‫‬‭‮‪‫‬‭‮҉Some people can't read this...Wierd!

  • Its a shame that someone who isn't part of the government body has to do secret recordings of homes that are in such a state like this. Good on her for doing it, but it shouldn't be done!

Well done Peter for raising awareness on Youtube!

  • This is so heartbreaking. On one hand, you have to wonder how things can get so bad, but if there isn't enough training or enough resources, or plainly, enough respect for these older people, how can things improve?

  • truer words have never been spoken.

  • Terrible. I thought the Brits had a great helathcare system the us Yanks!

  • I thought that your country had tax-sponsored health care? This is terrible! I visit my grandparents that are/have been in homes and they had nurses and were being cared for. I hope that your country can ramp up it's regulations and the enforcement of those regulations so those who need care will receive better care! Where are their families? If they visited, they would see this. I hope for the best for the elderly of the UK and throughout the world that they will get better care!

  • 2008 ? Shurley it would be more humane and equally as cost effective for the goverment to build and run care homes for the "Lucky Old Folk" who live long enough to enjoy there old age ? run by nurse's who are trained for job, rather than give tax payers money to these so called nursing homes out to make huge profits for doing as little as possible.

As I get older I shudder at the thought of landing in such a place.... Will someone help us all? ......please?

  • Honestly what can you expect, you can't have a nurse for every senior citizen in care. Especially considering the Baby Boom generation.

  • My stepmother worked in a nursing home briefly. She left because she couldn't face how badly the residents were treated by the carers, and how little the management seemed to care. I wish she'd blown the whistle on them rather than just leave. I wonder though, would anyone have listened? How is a home like the one in this video still open after all those failures to meet even minimum standards!?

  • I look forward to the day when elderly people in the U.K. fight for their rights and refuse to stop until the Government recognises how wicked the system is in the U.K. Until then, taxpayers money will be spent on useless and pointless wars and not on the most needy and vulnerable in U.K. society.

  • This is Criminal!! Should not be allowed. We are to respect and take care of the elderly. I have the utmost love and respect for the elderly and it hurts to see this kind of neglect. God help us! we are all going to get old... something needs to be done about this.

  • I remember this show, and I have witnessed these kind of incidents myself. It's shocking and a disgrace to think that when you reach an old age that you are thrown on the scrap heap.

Some of my friends are quite old and to be honest, they are the most knowledgeable people I have ever met. They should be treasured and treated like royalty, but alas apart from family care, I don't think it will happen in the U.K.

My advice to anyone is to move to Australia when you are approaching that age.

  • peter as i have said before I do volunteer work with pensioners at a lunch club a lot of them a fitter than me and they are in their late 80s and early 90s I just wish I could do more but being disabled it limits me.

  • Its interesting how we seem to have developed a culture that disrespects the elderly.

There have been a few docos where "third world" visiting nationals are horrified by how we treat our elders.

Is this the price of modernity and prosperity?

Personally think we are to blame as we pay care assistants only slightly more than cleaners.

I think this is very shocking!

  • 400 pounds a week for that stinking dump? copy the nordic system for elderlay care you stupid brits.

  • Peter, I've been a Registered Nurse all my life. Let me tell you things are going DOWNHILL. I finally quit to work in administration. I couldn't take watching even the smallest of abuses 24/7.

  • High Five! Something needs to be done about the mistreatment these people recieve. What ever happened to human rights!

  • This is why Euthanasia should applyed to old people of a certain age that can no longer look after themseleves. I can't understand why old people are allowed to live just to suffer in care homes. All very sick old people should be to death, which would save costs for the relatives and the tax payer.

  • Your a bloody idiot. There are terrible homes and people are preying on the vunerable to earn easy money by not providing proper care. Whats your solution? Kill the old people!!

  • To cooperguy. No that's not the solution. But I think that very sick old people who are demented should be put to sleep. It's much kinder to do that, than to allow someone to rot in a care home.

  • Thanks so much.

  • Thankyou for posting this Peter, I hope it creates more awareness about the conditions some elderly people live in, its unacceptable.

  • Thank you for exposing these don't give a damn, money hungry jerks. Mary

  • Very sad, something has to be done for the elderly people.

Best thing to do is try as best you can to stay healthy so a person does not wind up in one of these homes.

  • Peter, I want you to know that until my dying day I will always help the elderly and treat them with the best that I can offer. I have always had a kindered heart towards the very young and the very old. Keep helping your friends, they need you like we need you. best of care Peter.

  • Thank you for posting this, Peter. The situation isn't much better in the states.

  • This is so true even in the USA

  • Peter, this video makes for pretty scary viewing. I have turned 60 this year and while I am in good health it is frightening to think I, like the people in this video could end up placed in such an uncaring home one day. And for many older people and their families there is no "choice" in facility. Lack of savings would prevent care in some of the better nursing homes. Thanks for highlighting this problem. Jacquie (UK) x

  • A great video, Peter! It's a stark expose, and VERY real. What they're doing is absolutely criminal, and it's at least as common here in the U.S. Old people all too often are NOT getting the care and respect that they both deserve AND are paying for. We need MUCH more public awareness.

    Moosie

  • Oh my god...this is so sad :( We have the same issues in America...but that was far worse than anything I have ever seen here. This video broke my heart...I hope something gets done about that. I hate how society treats the elderly these days...it's horrible. :( Thanks you for posting this.

  • Politicians are the cause of this mess to begin with, the US and the UK.

  • This is what happens when the young forget the wisdom and respect for the old. I have what we do with people...

  • I'm horrified by these conditions. I realize perfect conditions would be impossible on such a scale, but they should definitely be far better than this.

  • This video makes me sad :( These people should get much better care than this ! :/

  • I saw this on BBC2 originally. It saddens me that things like this still happen in our country. These people aren't carers, it's an absolute joke! They are only concerned about their pay packet at the end of the day.

Keep up the good work Peter!

  • I am a nurse in a hospital, and we experience older residents from nursing homes come into hospital due to falls and maltreatment in their nursing homes. It's shocking.

  • this is so sad, my gran was in a good home before she died this i was glad for

  • "She's fine, don't worry about her"...What the heck?!?! The woman is slumped over a chair. How do they know she's fine? Unbelievable. And all these fall. Why isn't anyone taking them to a hospital to be checked over? This is horrible and scares me to death. The elderly shouldn't be thrown away and forgotten like this.

  • another fantastic video

  • It's simply upsetting that we can not look after our elderly properly, good work peter!

  • Hard hitting video Peter, well done!

Where I live there's a murder investigation in which the owners of a local care home have been arrested on suspicion of killing 5 elderly people in their care, the police are currently investigating a further 15 suspicious deaths! Google 'Couple arrested over five care home deaths'

There truly needs to be a revolution in caring for the elderly.

  • awesome :)

  • Thanks for posting this video Peter. It's very sad that these elderly people are just left and forgotten in homes that are not equipped or staffed to care for them properly. I cannot believe the 2 ladies fell and the staff acted like it was a normal occurence! Anyone who has an elderly family member and is thinking of putting them in a home should see this and do plenty of researh before placing them. I am sure there are a lot of good places but this shouldnt happen at all

  • Hi Grandpa .. havent commented for a while but Im still watching. This video is disturbing, yet despite it I feel that the descrimination against our senior citizens is far from receiving the attention they so rightly deserve. This vid highlights that once again, when will something be done!

  • Great video!

  • That's terrible. How could people care so little?

  • quick run they pooped and peeed hahahaha

  • hello Peter,

  • Ageism happens with the young too you know...

  • The next time you fall down and break your hip and nobody comes to help, let me know and I'll have a talk with your caregivers.
