At the very least is may well be a demonstration of the balance between muscular control and spontaneous action. Though I try to follow bujutsu, I'm no Karate-ka, so there maybe another reason behind it.

It has nothing to do with how 'round' the circle is. It is a demonstration of empty mind, which in fact his kata was also.
