For GTCU17 - Actually, UW started using the Bud Song in the mid 70's. Fans at a hockey game wanted something to polka to, and that song was the closest thing they had in their playlist. It quickly became a fixture wherever the band played.

I can't comment about GT's history, but the UW band has been playing the Bud Song for over 35 years.

After some digging, I found that GT was reported to have used/played the song in 1970, so GT was indeed first.

The way it happened for UW - The band had a new batch of commercial jingles to play as part of in game performance during hockey season. The game was a rout, and the fans were asking for the band to play some polka music so they could dance. The closest thing they had was the Bud Song. It became an immediate hit, and a part of every pre-game, in-game, and post-game set.

I seriously had no idea GT used this song. I'm sure most UW fans would say the same thing. At the end of the jungle/commercial of course, the words were 'When You Say Budweiser, You've Said it All", which became 'When You Say Wis-con-sin, You've Said It All'. How does GT play the song?

For us during football season, they now only play the song after the game is over, and the upper deck has started thinning out, because otherwise it would shake too much.

It's been around just over a decade now. It was almost stopped due to claims by fans in the Upper Deck of tremors that made it feel like the stadium was about to collapse. Numerous engineers and architects confirmed the Upper Deck was safe and the tradition continued. It can be very intimidating for a visiting team. I know for a fact overhearing a Washington State Assistant coach in 2007 talking to someone in the stands, he was aware of how games can easily slip away after "jump around"
