I like the quality of sound, but there's almost no settings, only volume control for each chanel. Also i dont like it turns off by it self. When you dont play any sound on your computer, sound card can turns off. It shows like it's working in system, but it does not produce any sound, so you have to replug it to usb again. Sometimes i have to replug this device 10 times per day, pretty annoying, didn't find any solution. Software can be installed on windows 7 in compatibility mode with xp.
Okay, I have a question. Last night I was djing a show at our local venue and I hooked up my computer via auxillary to the amp. It started giving background noise (sounded like white noise, or a humming sound)
My friend said that it was the computer itself because when I'd unplug the wire, the noise would stop. And when plugged into other peoples computers, it also didn't make the noise. Would this card on my laptop get rid of the noise?
@WOAHFOX A good soundcard would solve your problem ( A Xonar or X-FI based model ), this one actually have some background noise that you notice while using Headphones.
And people, it DOES work on Windows 7, in fact I'm using it with my copy of Windows 7 x64 right now... it's plug'n play so you don't need to install any driver.
@WOAHFOX I can't say because I never used with a amp but it's not the kind of sound card you will want on your side for anything but home use. Sometimes it's just stop to work when left idle for a couple of minutes and it gets a lot of interference when you put it too close of other electronic devices ( even your own computer )...
can this replace the actual sound card in the PC?.....if i was to take out the sound card out of the computer....will this work instead?...I know stupid question...but i got to ask it!:)))
The soundcard itself support 24-bits / 96 KHz playback. But in order to achieve that you must use XP (X86 or X64).
Why? The original ZM-RSSC uses a driver called WDMA_USB in order to work, it's already come with Windows. When Microsoft launches Vista / 7, this driver was updated and then limited in order to work with a higher range of hardwares that uses this generic driver, so it's16-bits / 48 KHz when using Vista / 7... and since Zalman has discontinued support for this soundcard, well...
i don;t know what channel external sound my sound card is. And i have some stereo which is 5.1. Any help how can i see what channel my card is? PLeasee Help!!
@PermaSpinCD I agree 100% with you bro - we don't want to now HOW it works but how WELL it works....this vid was completely FAIL and I still dont know whether it is a good sound card or not.....
Will this work for 4.1 channel sound? I have a Cambridge Soundworks system with 4 speakers and a subwoofer. If not, do you know of a possible external soundcard for me?
Well I have to admit that after trying and trying for hours I got the card to deliver better sound quality, but still with a bit of a distortion when turning the volume up.
I significantly reduced the volume on the volume controllers on the sound card (I've got them on 4/10 now) so my speaker system now amplifies the sound (or something like that)...
I'm also MAD and furious at the software as the 5.1 output shows me 2 SIDE (instead of REAR) speakers!!
@giorginho7 so do you have any other external soundcard? what would you recommend? kuz im planning to buy z5500 by Logitech this week, and my system only supports 2channel. damn.... so i have to check out other external sound cards via usb....
I haven't yet tried this with my zalman, but I would suggest buying any external card with OPTICAL output (SPDIF or COAXIAL) and connect the Z-5500's that way!!
IT'S FAR BETTER THAN ANYTHING ELSE!
I have my Z-5500 connected to the spdif output of my laptop, but I needed this zalman card to be able to deliver 5.1 sound via 3 stereo analog outputs because my other system (Creative T5400) only has analog 5.1 input.
you do need a external card but the zalman would be a bad choice. i was useing virtual dj with the zalman and me, or the program had a hard time setting up the channels. i went with a cheaper card from steelseries.
Ive just plugged in my head phones to the front channel output and can hear sound, plus I adjusted the volume levels on the zalman to a very loud output, it sounds good but my notebook harmon/kardon 3.5mm output is better for headphone sound quality. In my opinion the Zalman should work in your case as should any usb or express card, sound card.
so could this be used to like play music over air for better quialty. cuz i have a desktop that can play over air threw soundcard. but my laptop dont. so would this work for broadcasting over air..like a chat room or something?
If you want something for broadcasting, don't buy something that only accepts 3.5mil jacks. Look into the Alesis Multi-mix, ART USB preamps or Creative E-MUs for broadcast, since they will take XLR inputs.
my card was working fine but then i had to disconnect it from the laptop to take it smwhr else. when i reconnected it, it doesn't switch on/the red light doesn't come on the card. what's wrong with it?
iv tryed using the coaxial/optical 3.5 to 3.5mm from my macbook pro to the external sound card but its stil doesnt work. ( the power light does flash and no sound). if any1 can help, PLEASE take a minute out of ur time to msg me. Thanks in advance
I use the Zalman for my laptop, with the digital optical out which sends the raw digital signal via (optical cable) to my Home Audio reciever. I can watch movies in Dolby Digital 5.1, listen to music in pure digital, without the loss you get when using the 3.5mm anlalogue jacks from your mp3 ipod or laptop. I havn't tryed the 5.1 via the 3.5mm jacks for computer speakers so I cant comment but the way I have it set up really does produce a fantastic sound quality even after 2 years use.
You will get some distortion at full volume, but this little device is the best value at this price (around $20- $25). One thing I can say is Ive had it for close to 4 years now and its still going. For around $40 you can get the creative external, Home Theater Connect DTS-610. Havnt tested it but would be worth a look IMO.
That's so not true... I bought an Audigy 2 NX a bit over a year ago, and it was always locking up, and causing popping in the sound. It just died so basically I spent $190 for 16 months of digital audio... useless. Go for anything other than Creative! Most of their products are duds and I've experienced LOTS as I run a computer business.

There's too much sound distortion at medium-high volume so I'm returning this one for an x-fi which I HOPE will do better...
