  • Hm, not bad, though the octave definitely seemed to have dropped in comparison with the traditional shamisen. It's almost a bass instrument in this manner!

  • And the electric guitar sounds to much as an electric violin or electric cello that were invented first than the electric guitar. the sound is because the distortion and other efects , the elctric guitar does not sound that way by itself, and effects can be put to any electric instrument as long as it has a jack. It is no way a property of guitars, although the mass culture has teached that to us.

  • I WANT ONE AAAHHHHH!!!!!!

  • haha i searched "steve morse shamisen" and this is what came up...

    :D

  • meh...I like traditional shamisen mixed with modern styles, but this sounded too much like an electric guitar.

  • damn dude!! its like dream theater shamisen style, i like when he starts going ape shit @ 0:54 nice.

  • does that song is yours? [..what's it's name?]

  • it is mostly improvisation but it is based on the MONSTERS of SHAMISEN theme song which is written by Masahiro Nitta.

  • awesome i like how he maintains control when he goes really high. it seems like most would lose the rythym when they got up there

  • J'ai déjà vu ce mec en show à MTL. Il joue avec le groupe Estradasphere depuis 2003. Kevin Kmetz son nom.

  • i want one

  • 1. It's "evoke"

    2. Why don't you actually look for Kevin Kmetz on youtube and make an informed decision about his playing ability? When you find him and see what he is capable of and the wide scope of the music he plays, I hope you will withdraw such comments...

    bellend.

  • COOL !!!

  • Amazing! No matter what you think of the way the electrified sound in represented in this video, which was affected by the fact that it was recorded by the cam mic picking up stage speckers from a distance, the playing is awesome. This is a very talented musician doing some very entertaining and unique work. Thanks for posting it for us to enjoy and marvel over!

  • thats cool! i think i like the traditional shamisen sound best though.

  • he should jam with wes borland

  • Blehh, I'm not fond of it.

It takes away that traditional sound of the acoustic, which I like.

  • very good!

  • So now the question: Who has the more facemelting skills? Top guitar players or top shamisen players?

  • Depends on who you ask.

I, personally, would have to say a player of the triple necked Guitar shamisen sanshin Theremin.

That would bring the term "one man band" to a whole new level.

  • Guitar shamisen sanshin Theremin xDDDDD

  • Nice

  • rad!!

  • For those of you being critical of this brilliant musician, Kevin Kmetz is the first foreigner in history to win the honorary Daijo Kazuo Award at the Tsugaru Shamisen Championship Competition in Kanagi, Japan on May 5, 2005 and the "Judges Choice" Award at the Hirosaki Championship tournament May 4, 2005. In both 2006 and 2007, Kevin placed Nyusho (runner-up) at Hirosaki and Jyun Yuusho (2nd place) at Kanagi. Enough said.

  • I wanna see "Devil went down to Japan"

  • Ahhh!!! It is the Devil of Shamisen!

  • I'm not suprised! awesome!!!!!!

  • I agree! Shame on it all!!

  • Blasphemy!

  • It's an instrument for the Devil of Shamisen!

  • The truth is that it is not a Mugen 21. It comes from a Shamisen maker named Beniya. From far away it looks just like one of Katoh`s but if that was a Mugen it would be feeding back like crazy. Katoh is working on something new, however but I can`t really talk about it just yet...

  • Wow, this is really neat! :D

I'm gonna incorporate one in my band eventually if possible!

  • sounds nothing like an electric guitar if you dont know crap about music then dont talk crap about music.

  • He's playing it like a guitar... which I think sounds like crap

  • "I think this fully electric kind just sounds like a electric guitar. (which I'm not a huge fan of, but that's just me) "

  • That's the way shamisen music sounds...On an acoustic one even...

  • Nt quite still sounds great tho.

  • Danke

  • Danke

  • That is a Mugen21 right?

  • I don't think so. I'm pretty sure a Mugen21 can be played acoustically as well as amplified but the electric shamisen in the video can't be played without an amp. I've seen it up close and I saw it has a hard pvc skin/cover in lue of dog skin.

A Mugen21 probably sounds more like a shamisen. I think this fully electric kind just sounds like a electric guitar. (which I'm not a huge fan of, but that's just me)

  • I'm fairly sure that it is a mugen. Same dokake. and the acrylic pegs are from katoh too. Any shamisen can be fitted with a synthetic or dog skin. Probably was going through some effects or a weird amp. Besides, the mugen series are the only electric shamisens.

  • Looks like a Roland Cube amp. The smaller one. It would have quite a few effects built in to it.

  • hell yea distortion & peddle effects too baby

  • way better thatn part 1

  • This, my friends, is the future.

  • ....Whoooah. Rock. Freakin. On. \m/ >_< \m/

  • It's really cool, but i think i like the acoustic shamisen better^_^

  • shamisen powaa!!!

  • I admit that this is good but I had to take the headphones off my ears.

  • You've gotta love the "looping" pedal-switch-whatever-they-are things. It adds so many layers to the sound...

  • Ah, yes. An Electric Shamisen, as only Kevin Kmetz can do.

  • omfg. i want one.
