I am kinda surprised they have colors on the cubes used in the blind challenges. they should use some kind of light sensitive sticker that would be one color all the time unless it was placed under a black light or something.

I guess they felt that they needed to make an example out of someone. Or perhaps they were too emotionally involved when banning him.

Will WCA ensure that there will be a friendly and safe environment when he returns? I sadly doubt it. Arrogance is not becoming.

If someone cheated like this in any other "sport" they'd end up being suspended from 1-6 games/events. As you said, even criminals have lighter sentences.

No, they won't! They wanted to make an example, no matter what it costs. They overkilled a teenager without real evidence. They did not even give him the chance to prove himself.

I feel the same as you. I don't know exactly the conditions of how he cheated, but I'm guessing he might have just looked downwards on a poorly adjusted blindfold. But I think 1 year from all events is enough. But really, he is only 14, if this didn't lead him to quitting cubing, he could be back at it and probably obtain a lot of BLD records back (assuming he didn't cheat on all of them).

BTW a recent study from the US says, DNA evidence examined after people on murder charges were executed proved that in the States overall 1 in 8 people were condemned to death and executed while being innocent. And that's only the result of the DNA evidences.

I think the fact that Matyas violated the trust and integrity of the WCA by cheating is worthy of at LEAST the 3 year ban. This gives a bad name to all the blindfold cubers who are legit out there. Also, cheating is one of the worst things you can do in cubing, especially at an official event. And he broke WR's while cheating?! I think they should've banned him for life. How could you feel sorry for a cheater?
