Then you can practice overtones, which will not only help you achieve altissimo, but it will teach you a lot about how to put air through the horn. Rascher's "Top Tones for Saxophone" is the book a lot of players look at to help with this stuff.

@Want2bTheBest, I'll add my two cents. What helped me was "listening" to a lot of music. You'd be surprised at how much that helps. Also, I'm constantly humming and singing tunes in my head. That helps you develop a good sense for pitch. Also, practice your 12 major scales. Without a working knowledge of that, it's gonna be pretty hard.

I have been playing the saxophone for 18 years, and to get a saxophone to "GROWL", you have to use your tongue.. you have to do a "PURR " sound and be able to master the technique. When you have this down, apply it when playing, and you got it! I hope that helps!
