Thank you so much for this video! I taught myself to play gion kouta on the sanxian (chinese samisen) a while ago from this video.
I must say that I love gion kouta - such a beautiful song and dance.

Cool song. I'm used to seeing the super fast shamisen music, like by the Yoshida Brothers. Nice to hear a slower tune.

I think he plays very well...but i guess it was rated so low is because you can tell when he almost makes a mistake and shit.
the sound from the instrument truly is amazing

Is there a reason to why the picks are so big. Is it just for comfort or is there a speciel way it's played?

I wish, I wish I could find a shamisen teacher in Florida. =( So few teachers here in America for it. I'm a pianist, myself. I don't know why people rated this so low. Sorry he's not noodling on an electric, seriously. It's beautifully done.
