The Fly 2 (1989) was very good movie and I don't understand why so many people hate it. Visual effects were ok and the storyline was smart and interesting. And this movie was scarier than original. Eric Stoltz and Daphne Zuniga were impressive. In some scenes the music reminded me the one from Alien series
@ ZanMatt2g What I couldn't believe was that the girl kissed Martin as he was still covered in blood, gore, and fly glop when Bartok and he exited the Pod. YUCK!!!!!
Although I felt sorry for Martin in the Fly 2, I really could shed a tear for his father Seth from part 1. At least Martin had Beth to console him during his transformation. Seth was completly alone in his ordeal. And Seth's changes were more prolonged & exaggerated. Martin quickly formed a cocoon in the sequel, & at least he cured himself & ended up w/ Beth. Seth & Ronnie's love affair ended way too tragic.
Martin's final form wasn't even that bad compared to his Fathers. Brundlefly was a pathetic mess of human and fly, while Martinfly was a more well "structured" monster. I feel sorry for Bartok at the end, Martinfly was nothing compared to him.
John Getz only appears twice in this film once in the beginning of the film where Martin is being born and this scene where Martin is seeking Stathis Borans for help.
Have any of you ever had a character in a horror movie that you hate enough, to want to see die a gruesome and painful death? Well; Stathis Borans is mine.
Yeah Brundle was always still conscious even in his full on fly form. He was a little loopy, but still himself. Then again turning into a fly would make me loopy too
......but he made up for it by attempting to save her in the end. Too bad it cost him a hand and a foot in the process but I guess that's what happens when you underestimate your opponent. Of course, who could be prepared for an opponent that was processing "insect politics?" Nevertheless, David Cronenberg started something excellent or at least potential. A shame that it ended terribly. Oh well.
I personally agree that the script of the sequel was ok. Not as good as the first one, but it still contained emotions, drama, not to mention a hell of a lot of gore. John Getz was probably the best part out of the film. Quite sad really. Really sad, especially since Stathis lost his girl, in more ways than one. Lost his limbs, but even worse he lost his sanity. He lost a majority of his emotions therefore resulting in bitterness and scorn. Yeah he was an ass in the first beginning wise....
It means that after Seth went through the machine and came out a half-human, half-fly hybrid - he had sex with Ronnie and impregnated her with a mutant creature and it killed her. Although, in another way, the whole incident with Seth also killed her emotionally, because he had, unintentionally, destroyed himself via the machine and she had to kill it (Seth) before it became worse.
The whole situation sucks for her, she falls in love with a guy then he fucks up, gets her impregnated with a brundlefly then she blaps him. But is it in the movie when she dies?
In the original 1986 version? No, she just ends the existence of the Brundlefly. In the 1989 version, yes. She dies as a result of both the mutant labor and the shocking of realizing she had not given birth to a human child (as she had been hoping against hope for in the original 1986 version).
"she had to kill it (Seth) before it became worse"
Actually, Ronnie shot him cuz he ultimately wanted to. Seth tried to become human again but instead he ended up with parts of the telepod inside him. Of course she shot him. Only human thing left to do. And I found it creepy, that even in the very end after the last transformation, there was still some human sense left in Brundle. So the fly never really took complete control over him (or his son). Insects are not human enough to take suicide.
The point was that the Brundlefly was becoming progressively more and more insect-like. But even so, he did have, as you pointed out, one last moment of human sanity left to ask for Ronnie to end its existence.
Yes, but in what way could he possibly change further? The point where Brundle lost his human shaped form was when Ronnie ripped the jaw off, and the last stage of transformation happened, and when he entered the pod the process were finished. Brundle never turned particulary insect-like anyways, not physically. He lost his humanity but didn't realize, being human could mean two different things. Merging his body with hers is not ethical... having a whole family in one body is NOT human.
"they bought his silence and because he can't warn people of the dangers of the machine..."
It makes sense, though since Borans is a journalist he could make a fortune by exposing Bartok industries worldwide and have a clean conscience at the same time (so he can fucking sleep at night). Maybe he don't have any love for Brundle but I bet he isn't fond of Bartok either. So the script for Fly 2 is not a good way to reason in my opinion.
Not a good comment. A GREAT comment!! The fact that Brundle was, basically, still alive inside the insect was what touched me, and thats very noticeable in Geena Davis's character when she's sobbing before, during, and after killing him!! Great comment once again!!!
Although Stathis was a rotten jerk in the first movie at the beginning, he became a hero and saved Ronnie from ending up like Seth. I actually feel sorry for him, not just because he lost his arm and foot, but because he did help Ronnie and saved her life - but he couldn't save her from what had Seth had done to her. I think its both the fact that he lost his limbs and that Ronnie died during the amoral child (or in this case, "it") birth, that's why he's so bitter and a drunkard.
Also, in the 1989 script to "The Fly II", the beautiful house and grounds that you see was said to be given to Stathis by Bartok and his associates in order to keep him quiet about the whole thing. Basically, they bought his silence and because he can't warn people of the dangers of the machine and of Bartok industries, that could be another reason he's being so vile.

he should consider himself as a lucky dude! he had his hand and his foot disolved by Brundlefly`s vomit, but, he could had have all his limbs disolved or, it could be even worse, he could had have his face melted like that security guard on the Fly 2! so, he is, indeed , lucky!
I know Brundle was about to vomit on his face that´s why I said he was lucky that Ronnie stopped Brandle from doing such thing.... I know, also, that , on this scene, he isn´t talking about being lucky.. infact I was talking about he´s being lucky,,,that´s all!!!
it was a comment! I know everything about both movies I saw them both more than one time! thank you!
still, he was lucky......what would you prefer? loosing two limbs or having your face melted? just choose between these two options! there´s no thirth option!! do you see what I mean yet?
I would prefer neither. I'm saying he has reason to be pissed off from losing his hand and foot. He shouldn't consider himself lucky if he lost limbs.
I mean that I consider him lucky , got it? as I have told you before, he could have had his face melted so....in my personal concept, he was lucky indeed!
It's unlucky that he lost his limbs, but he's still lucky in the sense that at least he's alive, yes? I mean, we saw (later in this movie) what happened to people who have their faces covered in fly vomit; If you're alive after that, you're NOT lucky.
@RednessAlpha Yeah, had Ronnie not stopped him, Stathis would've been dead before you could say, "Check, please!" If you're wondering about that part and if you've seen the 2005 edition of The Fly, there was a deleted scene in script format where a baglady was attacked by Brundle and had her face melted off, therefore resulting in her death.
man the fly was one of my favorite movies ever i just saw it and i havent laughed at the words "im pregnant" that much since Juno. the fly 2, eh not so much
I wish this video footage existed in the Fly II film itself. They really should have added those gruesome scenes (from the first film) into this particular one.
@AutumnCrisp No, there was that part where he said, "As for the 'cure' he was working on, he dragged your mother kicking and screaming into that telepod, that they might be fused together in one beautiful body. THERE'S your CURE. Go AWAY."
When I heard the 'beautiful body' part, I couldn't help but think of the deleted Monkey-Cat scene and think of what would've happened to Ronnie, and say, "Define beautiful."

i havent seen fly 2, why do people think its so bad?
Richardy4283 3 years ago
The acting is terrible, the storyline had too many cliches, and the old characters were killed off or diminished.
Plus, Martin was overdone as a fly. Too monstrous, rather than looking like the previous cancerous-looking creature.
RednessAlpha 3 years ago
ah, i see, um what exactly does cliche mean?
Richardy4283 3 years ago
Cliche means overused. Kinda like the mottos in advertisements.
In another words, events in the story were predictable and the whole composition of it just made it seem cheesy.
