I believe the transformation worked not just physicaly but also psychologically.

It's to show that the highest level of human form does away with physical differences and racial attitudes.

I think would be great if they put an after-credits scene, perhaps after iron man 2 or captain america itself, where nick fury shows tony stark an image, tony looks at it and says something among the lines of "he's him... he's the dream" and then we see a satellite photo of a body in the ice, only the star on the chest is recognizable. what do you think?

Even as a child who grew up reading CAPTAIN AMERICA comics I often thought; Wouldn't Cap as a white man from the 1940s be horribly racist? One has to remember that Cap served in a U.S. military that was then strictly segregated and white attitudes towards blacks in the 1940s were universaly negative to say the least. I've read several books about black soldiers serving in the U.S. military during WW2. The levels of racism they had to endure is almost beyond belief.

You're obviously talking about the majority perception at the time, but you have to consider that Captain America does not necessarily have the same perspective or upbringing as everyone else?
