Great video and choice of song used. Writing a book similar to the design of the Island and that song used has just helped me to create a fast pace for my first few chapters. Great video again!:)
i loved this movie, Dreamworks got served cause theirs like another movie from the 70s which had pretty much the same plot. this movie barley raked in a profit for the money put into it but then again it only won the teen award and nothing else :( I really wanna see a sequel cause I wanna see more but I'm guessing its better just to imagine what happens next rather than see a sequel that fails :( also Scarlett Johansson was super hot in this film :P
Pretty good video for a pretty decent movie. This is one action film that is timely given the advances in cloning tech and will make the viewer think.
@brianng999 my point was that the advances in cloning tech makes "The Island" far more relevant today than the 1970's film, "Parts", upon which this one was loosely based. There's nothing wrong with cloning tech per se, but there can be misuse of it as "The Island" shows.
@brianng999 I'd agree Hollywood has unfairly made a habit over the last few decades of showing scientists (and businessmen, for that matter) as unethical or downright nasty. I don't think most scienists would be like those in the movie. However, I heard an exchange involving scientists years ago during the Dolly the Sheep stuff. They were talking about how much of a hypothetical cloned Human would be "Human" so as to take organs from it. It was more than a bit disturbing hearing such talk.
@FiendsInRedSatin1 As scientists it is their job to make hypotheses regarding issues that cross the ethical line. When you venture into new territory like that you have to first find out where that "line" stands. How can you draw the line without first making all those hypotheses? Its not like they actually went out and did it.
In any case in the future instead of cloning an entire human they'd only clone individual organs. They are already doing that for stuff like heart valves and skin grafts
@brianng999 it's disturbing when people who should know better (ie scientists) are talking about making people without heads so they technically wouldn't be "Human". (And, yes, they actually did talk about that possiblity.) Ideally, making only organs would be the way to go. That way no legal or moral issues would be raised at all. [Of course, it wouldn't make for much of a movie plot. ;-) ]
@brianng999 it's just a bit shocking that people would discuss how much of a human would be "human" up to the point of growing entire bodies without heads. (One man whose name I don't recall actually put forth the idea that a cloned human would not really be "human" and thus could be treated any way society wished. Thankfully, his was a lone voice.) I see no problem growing individual organs. Having an entire body is just too "Frankensteinish" for me.
@FiendsInRedSatin1 I disagree. I think it's important they discuss this sort of thing in depth. How else do you define the ethical line?
I mean it really isn't all that black and white. If you think about it, without the head and brain, is growing such a thing any different from growing the individual organs?
It would just be flesh, blood and bone. No consciousness, no intelligence, nothing. Even a chicken or a pig is more alive than that. I really wonder why you think its so disturbing, heh.
@FiendsInRedSatin1 And you don't think a whole room full of pulsating human hearts isn't? Grown without a brain there really isn't much difference bar perhaps a few extra limbs tacked on.
I do agree with you that the cloning of an entire intelligent human being just to harvest them later is completely unethical. That's why they've thought about growing them without brains or like in the movie claimed to be in a "vegetative" state.
@brianng999 there's just something far more chilling about growing pretty much intact humans than just individual organs or even the "blobs" of organs that the villains in the movie had as their cover story. In any case, "The Island" is a good film.
@brianng999 Cloning people IS THE AGENDA. This century. You want to know another part of the agenda (before cloning) ? THE BRAIN CHIP. Watch surrogates, that movie is there to program people for the brain chip that will be released. The plan is to get us into virtual land with the brain chip, flick the switch (no more individual thought), then I'm sure the cloning starts. Cuttingthroughthematrix (dot) com to learn more about the agenda. Free podcasts.
@brianng999 Let's sum it up this way. "The Island" raises the important issue of "How far is too far" in the area of human cloning. Do we classify humans derived from cloning as "real" humans or just clones who have no rights at all? (To reference that discussion panel, at least some people feel that way.) In the push for advancement in science, we should not allow ethics to take a backseat which is the overall point of "The Island".
I loved the island, I watched it 3 times already, and man, its sooo good. Good music, plot and the set is great, and I love movies with happy endings! Recommend it to anyone!
the main reason why the movie was a box office bomb was because a lot of critics felt that it wasn't very original i guess. There were many people who complained that michael bay used their ideas without giving credit to them. The clonus horror was one show that had the same idea. But still, i don't get why critics didn't like this movie. Its awesome.
the reason why its considered a bomb was because it made less in the us but in reality it was successful only cause it was a box office smash around the world
It got a lot of bad reviews, and I think that's wrong. It's a great sci-fi, and a great thriller. I enjoy watching it over and over, kind of reminds me of Logan's Run.

@FiendsInRedSatin1 And what is wrong with cloning tech in the first place? We should be encouraging that kind of stuff.

@FiendsInRedSatin1 Well there seems to be a lot of that in hollywood movies. Portraying scientists as "evil" and "unethical".
Don't get me wrong, the film itself is quite enjoyable. It's just the few themes that are quite irksome.

@FiendsInRedSatin1 I know they've talked about that possibility and I am wondering why you think that is so immoral?
Without a brain the body is basically just a chunk of meat. Growing such a thing would be no different to growing the individual organs themselves.
The organs could actually be harvested secretly from aliens :). The alien factor always seems to work in American movies.
