From what I know the Philippines had this kind of tradition as well, but it's mostly gone now. Therefore, I believe its incorporation into Islam strengthened this tradition, and hence why I say Islam is the cause.

This might come down to black and white because thats whats on the surface, but if people regarded life at the highest token back, Africa might have never been enslaved, and I am speaking on the behalf of the Europeans and the Africans.
